New period drama "Dear Husband of 100 Days" starts next week

During the Joseon Dynasty (1932-1910), men and women who remained single by the age of around 20 were believed to bring bad luck to the nation.

As the country's fate seems to slide and a drought continues for months, prince Lee Yul orders all those "old" men and women to tie the knot to turn the nation's fortune around.

The upcoming television series "Dear Husband of 100 Days," also known as "100 Days My Prince," set in the period, features the interesting love story between an unlikely couple: the prince, who loses his memory following an accident and gets to marry the country's oldest single woman, who doesn't know her husband's true identity and thinks him useless and completely out of touch with reality.

Popular K-pop boy group EXO's Do Kyung-soo, better known by his stage name D.O., plays the prince, and Nam Ji-hyun takes the role of the bride, Hong Sim. The romantic comedy centers around the prince's 100-day adventure outside the palace before he regains his memory and returns to where he belongs.

As it was Do's first role in a period drama, the singer-actor said he was very nervous in the beginning.

"I accepted the role as it was a new challenge for me. Acting in (traditional Korean attire) and speaking in an accent were a bit hard. They were new experiences," he told reporters during a press event Tuesday in Seoul. "I became comfortable after talking a lot with the director and the writer."

The new series is expected to play an important role in shaping the career landscape for the singer who has been successfully expanding his career into the small and big screens over the past few years.

"It is the first time for me to take a lead role in a TV drama. It was harder than I had expected, but colleges and senior actors were all very nice to me and tried to help me. I had a lot of fun working on the set."

The 16-part drama entered production in April and recently finished filming.

Director Lee Jong-jae said he was happy that the production finished without a hitch. "I was also new to producing a period drama. Every actor showed great performances. They delivered emotional scenes so well, which I emphasized the most. I am very satisfied with it," he said.

Nam Ji-hyun of MBC's "Shopaholic Louis" said her multidimensional character attracted her to the show. "The character has many interesting aspects. As I practiced a lot with Do before actual shooting, we became comfortable around each other. I had a fun time acting with him," she said.

The Monday-Tuesday series will premiere at 9:30 p.m. next Monday on tvN. It succeeds "Let's Eat 3."

Slight OT but I took an Air Transat plane a few weeks ago and was quite surprised that one of the few movies available was Along With The Gods. Even more surprised when he popped up in the middle of the movie. Get that mainstream movie career, hon!

I don’t watch dramas ever (except for the time I watched Love Rain for Yoona... or that one drama where it turned out ksoo never existed and was just the younger manifestation of one of the protagonists... and then that one-) but this seems like fun.

Omg yes. His voice is just made for the r&b sound. I remember like a year after they debuted thinking in my head what path some exo members would take in the next few years and I was so sure he, along with Taeyeon, would be one of their flagship soloists by now. I thought Sehun would be the one to go into acting but now I feel like an idiot because Sehun is many things, but he has never been emotive lol.

My thoughts are still that we'll end up getting a chansoo subunit, Kai solo and prob a Chen and BBH mini each (maybe i'm not sold that Chen will actually do it lol) but then once army's done they'll stick with CBX like suju D&E. those three just make a great team ^_^ and seem good together. idk if Kyungsoo will do a solo in his own right other than OSTs since he's taken such a love with acting but I'd love one! I was talking about this a while ago with a friend but watching kyungsoo act is similar to watching kai dance it just feels like that's the right thing for them it feels natural.

Not a huge sageuk fan, but I'm really looking forward to this! I love Nam Ji Hyun and Kim Sun Ho and I really have liked D.O. in the few things I've seen him act in. The story also seems fun, so fingers crossed it's as good as I'm hoping it will be!
