Actress Park Hae Mi’s husband Hwang Min was found responsible for a deadly car crash.

On August 27 at 11:15 p.m. KST, a fatal car accident occurred on the Gangbyeon Expressway in Gyeonggi Province.

The car being driven by Hwang Min crashed into a 25-ton truck that was parked on the side of the road. As a result, two passengers died at the scene. Hwang Min, the other two passengers, and the driver of the truck sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.

All four passengers of the car are actors. The police are carrying out an investigation under the premise that Hwang Min was the cause of the accident while driving under the influence.

According to the police, Hwang Min’s blood alcohol content at the time of the accident was 0.104 percent, which is high enough to have one’s license revoked.

On August 28, Park Hae Mi spoke to Korean media outlet EDaily in a phone interview.

Holding back sobs, she said, “The two actors who lost their lives were juniors who I loved. I don’t know how I will continue living from here on out. I’m scared, sorry, and my heart is breaking. It’s hard for me to imagine what I can do to apologize. I’m so scared and nervous that I haven’t even been able to go to the scene [of the accident].

She continued, “I don’t know if I can even be forgiven by dying. For the police investigation, funeral, compensation, and everything else, I will give my all and carry them out to the fullest.

Park Hae Mi wed musical director Hwang Min in 1995.

it's being alleged that hwang min was trying to self-harm after he woke up from the hospital

I can’t help but think that culture is partly to blame for this. As his juniors, would the other actors in the car be able to ask him to not drive drunk, or let someone else drive? I think either they were even drunker or didn’t want to upset the balance by calling out Hwang min.

I feel like if they weren't drunk, self preservation should have kicked in. Culture hierarchy be damned

Hierarchy definitely plays a role in it, but I also feel like it's very normal to drive in Korea with at least a little tipsy (piss drunk is another story...). I mean, even my old Korean teacher was giving us language students tips on how to avoid the police when driving home drunk lmao and with Korea's drinking culture being what it is, I wouldn't be surprised if everyone thought "lots of people drive drunk all the time, what's the worst that could happen?" and then the worst really did happen :/

goes to show how normalized drinking is in sk :/ all of the students were of drinking age and she was one those 'trying to be hip' teachers

I don't think this is that much different than when people tell their friends where the "checkpoints are" after a night out. It's basically people all admitting "We know you're driving drunk, here's how to get home without getting caught." It's a really bad culture of "Drunk driving might be bad, but getting in trouble is the worst, don't get in trouble."
