On July 19, Kakao M (formerly known as LOEN) announced that “IU recently renewed her contract with our company and decided to stay with us as our exclusive artist.”

After 10 years of staying at Kakao M, IU was reaching the end of her first contract. While discussing her future plans, the singer confirmed there exists a mutual trust between her and the company, and decided to renew her contract even before it expired. Thus, she got to prove her loyalty to a company who has taken care of her for the last 10 years.

Regarding the contract renewal, Kakao M said, “we are just happy that we were able to further extend our partnership with IU. We will provide our never-ending support and effort as IU continues to thrive as a great artist and actress in the future.”

Meanwhile, IU debuted as a soloist as LOEN’s first artist in 2008. For the past 10 years, she continued to reach for the top, not only in her singing career, but also in producing, and acting. Recently, she appeared in tvN drama “My Mister” and solidified her place in the drama industry as actress Lee Ji-Eun.

Furthermore, she swept away the music industry with her latest album “Palette,” receiving awards from Gaon Chart Music Awards, Golden Disk Awards, and Melon Music Awards.

They must have been relieved.

IU seems to have one of the better relationships with her company so it doesn't surprise me she would want to renew

not surprised she renewed though, I guess since she does have quite a lot of creative control and she's probably their cash cow. I'm just hoping that the label promotes their other acts better. I've been waiting for Loen Girls in forever, and they're supposed to debut in 2018

naahh that's hardly true since kakao m is part of kakao corp (yep, owners of kakaotalk) one of koreas biggest conglomerate.... they dont need 'cash cow' when they basically own half of kpop industry lol

but I feel that as a label they haven't had much financial clout, or it seemed like they weren't really cash rich because the acts under that particular label (I understand that loen/kakao used to have a few under them) were not really getting much new music or even promotions, e.g. fiestar

it really make you wonder how a group in a well-connected and powerful agency can still stay irrelevant ... when it comes to iu and jbj they always had great budgets ,
nice collabs and lots of promotion oportunities

I was scrolling on mobile and thought that was Sohye before reading the title lmao

I'm glad that IU feels comfortable enough to renew after being there for so long, she seems to have one of the best relationships with her company compared to most idols/groups
