GOT7's Forbes interview
2018-07-18 09:34 pmSo much has changed in the past two years since @GOT7Official's last show in NYC, and the septet had a lot to say about their career, songwriting and K-pop in our recent chat for @Forbes. Read what #GOT7 have to say here: https://t.co/dnt5ysx265 pic.twitter.com/acCkK6B9Sj

Omona, what do you think is GOT7's sound? Is it a fusion of SSIxJustRight as they suggested, or something else?
Where do you see GOT7 heading in the future?
dead @ Jackson mentioning Dream Knight (tho another webseries from them would be fun tbh)

Date: 2018-07-18 07:39 pm (UTC)I think bright and energetic is the way to go, the their weakness really is the rapping.
I love the sound of Never Ever, but it took me time to make peace with the rapping in it. Day 6 rock version showed me what could have been.
I am also hoping for a verse 3 from JJP

Date: 2018-07-18 08:36 pm (UTC)a good article! i'm pleased to see that they touched upon the subject of artificiality in kpop and i honestly couldn't agree more with what jb said. i wish they could get more chances to expand on these topics, it's very intriguing to hear people who are right at the center of that sort of system talk about it.
i like that jb has been going back to listening to his old songs in order to improve! his eternal struggle between music he wants to make and music he has to make for the group. :') i remember jinyoung and jb both saying that verse 2 is an album they are both immensely proud of and that it is a masterpiece according to their own standards and i feel like part of that might be because they, or jb in particular, didn't feel like they had to aim for a specific sound with it? jb's songs on verse 2 do sound much more like his soundcloud songs rather than his songs for got7, aside from a few exceptions.
jinyoung's acting? it's_been_84_years.gif
i gotta admit i've never watched dream knight but if a sequel means more actor jinyoung then yes by all means, go for it, no matter how embarrassing it might be!! please!!!!!!! don't let this boy's acting talent go to waste @ jype
i'm honestly not sure what i'd consider got7's sound to be! probably a mix of 7 for 7 and eyes on you, i feel like those two albums are very close to what they want to sound like as a group. idk. it would be interesting to see what they would come up with if they ever did actually revisit a ssi sort of music, or even just right. i think it would make a lof of fans happy lmao
idk. i think as of right now, got7 are already very very happy with where they are and what they do but just sometimes, they let things slip like how they want a specific award or that they want to perform at a specific concert venue and it's always a reminder of how much more they could achieve if korea just gave them a chance. or if jype promoted them more in korea, seriously!!! i know they keep improving their sales and chart rankings with every comeback but i don't want them to stay stuck in that eternal second or third place. sorry to get so emo all of a sudden lmao they deserve so much more than they currently have but you know what!! like they said themselves, everything's looking up for them and there is definitely much much more in store for them so. i'm excited to see where they will continue from here, especially with their next comeback!

Date: 2018-07-19 02:51 am (UTC)I think EXO Next Door and Dream Knight should have a cage match -- none one looks good in either, and the storylines are nonsensical, though EXO ND actually drops fewer story lines and makes more sense that the DK travesty (and I don't mean the part where they're actually DKs.)
I love them both, they are peak ridiculousness. DK definitely wins for best opening song, though.

Date: 2018-07-19 03:12 pm (UTC)it's been so long since i watched exo next door!! i don't remember much about the storyline anymore, just that the girl was really cute. i should seriously watch both again and then compare.

Date: 2018-07-18 11:03 pm (UTC)But I would sell my kidney for another JJP album. Verse 2 remains one of my all time favorite albums from any artist. Please dont make us wait 4 yearz again.

Date: 2018-07-19 12:27 pm (UTC)Hopefully somewhere with less rap because the rappers have all got decent/distinct vocal tones and I really want defsoul to make use of it :^(

Date: 2018-07-19 05:11 pm (UTC)I think part of me is enjoying the reactions of those who meet them even more than the interviews themselves. They are just a very /very/ likable bunch, and it's nice to see that acknowledged by an unbiased third party considering how much shit people give them on the daily for absolutely no reason. I wouldn't even address this if the members weren't aware of it. And they are. So...
Speaking of awareness, I'm glad they aren't pretending their success exists within the confines of a bubble. Yes, a huge part of why they are successful is their hard work and the dedication of the fandom - however, that took a full decade of groundwork from previous groups and /their/ fandoms (more if you considering how Kpop spread in the first place before reaching the Western audience). I loved that Bambam previously emphasized the importance of unity within Kpop and was able to convey it so well despite not being a native English speaker, and I'm glad JB made it very clear that the "puppet and puppeteer" angle multiple medias have been trying to push is not only unacceptable, but quite frankly an insult to the efforts group effort to propel a group upwards. He had a similar answer to this question a few years ago, but I think the impact is stronger now that he plays such a big part in GOT7's music.
They really aren't playing any games.
