Tencent and Starship Entertainment give conflicting statements on Meiqi & Xuanyi's WJSN availability

WJSN members Meiqi and Xuanyi finished first and second in the final voting for ‘Produce 101 China‘ meaning they will debut in the upcoming girl group Rocket Girls.

Since then, various sides gave conflicting statements on whether Meiqi and Xuanyi will be able to promote with WJSN or not.

First, the Produce 101 PD said that they will only promote with Rocket Girls for the next two years and there won't be overlapping activities with WJSN. Then Starship Entertainment confirmed with an official statement that they will still be doing activities with WJSN during the 2 years. And now, Tencent released a statement that the girls signed an exclusive two-year contract with them and will only promote with Rocket Girls during that time.

I wonder how Cheng Xiao (or any of the up and coming Chinese girls in k-ent) feels about not participating in this lol, like before both Meiqi and Xuanyi were pretty much nugu aside from WJSN fandom(and that chinese lesbians millionaire tweet) and now they’re going leave the other girls faaaaaar behind popularity wise.

she wasn't on p101 china as a mentor, tho. she was on idol producer (the boys' version, that aired before this), also, iirc, before any of them were on these shows, xuan yi and mei qi's popularity level was similar, & cheng xiao had the most followers of all three on weibo, mei qi's the most popular now, definitely tbh

yuehua haven’t said anything yet either so idk who to believe. most likely i think is that the contract is exclusive and they won’t be able to promote with wjsn. i don’t think it’s possible anyway, flying back and forth constantly. rg is surely their top priority now. i can’t see them coming back to wjsn either once rg is over. :(

imo this is the end of ot13 and also we might lose chengxiao next year bc her contract’s up in march apparently. although she is popular in korea, realistically speaking her career prospects are far better in china so i could see her leaving too :(

if I'm not wrong, China-line is under Yuehua, so their contracts are slightly different than the Starship ones. there have been rumours saying that the contract is only 3 years for China-line

This is why these contracts need to be drafted up and terms of conditions need to be laid out ready before companies sign their trainees/idols up. Starship been Goofy with this group ANYWAY, and they were promoting without them (and other members) on several occasions as is. Also as shown before, produce101 fame and hype doesn’t translate into an entirely separate group.
And of course Their Chinese company ain’t gonna say a thing: they profit anyway. Whoever wins, they won’t be losing in this.
