Produce 101 China (Meiqi and Xuanyi) Roundup!

The most entertaining Produce (thus far, ngl 48 is looking pretty promising) ended yesterday. Both Meiqi and Xuanyi made it into the finals. How did they fare?

Meiqi conquered everyone's hearts and will debut as center in 'Rocket Girls' with 185,244,357 votes.

Thank you everyone. Thank you to all the producers for everything during these three months, supporting me on the outside and working so hard to vote for me. I want to thank the mentors for recognising my abilities. I also want to thank all the 101 contestants. They've been there for me throughout these three months and gave me so much strength. I especially want to thank our Yuehua Family. I love you guys so much. I want to thanks my parents for always supporting me.
Even though 101's stage and the program has finished, my passion for performing on stage has not been extinguished. I hope I can live up to everyone's hopes and expectations to be a confident and steady influence in the coveted 'C' (center) position.

Xuanyi was number 2 with about 4 million less votes than Meiqi.

Ep 1
Not a lot of Yuehua were shown since their audition was broadcasted in episode 2.

Ep 2
The Yuehua trainees (YH Girls) auditioned with Miss A's Good-bye Baby where Meiqi and Xuanyi were both given A ranks by the judges.

In the first of a gazilllion twist, it's revealed that only 11 people can be in the 'A' group at a time so new people given a temporary A will have to 'battle' current A members to secure their spots or be relegated to the B group. Meiqi was successful in her battle and stayed in A but Xuanyi wasn't and got put into B for the time being.

Both Meiqi and Xuanyi were in contention for the center position in the theme song, receiving the same number of votes and only a couple of votes under Zixuan who ended up being the center (fun fact: Zixuan is now the only Produce 101 theme song center who didn't end up debuting in the end group having placed 12th). Xuanyi was put back into A after the re-evalution. The ranks shown at the end of the episode had Xuanyi at 5 and Meiqi at 16.

Ep 3
The first live performance was the covers mission. There were 16 groups in total with the centers chosen by the mentors, 8 'skilled' centers and 8 'diligent' centers. Meiqi and Xuanyi were both chosen as skilled centers. The mentors then formed 2 teams from the 16 groups to compete against each other. Surprisingly, Xuanyi's group didn't win against their opponent but they put on a very polished performance of 'First Love Once Again'. (Fancam version)

Meiqi brought the house down from the first second she opened her mouth to sing and ended up getting the most votes on the night. (Fancam version)

The ranks shown at the end of the episode had Xuanyi at 1 and Meiqi at 6.

Ep 4
The first elimination episode had Xuanyi being ranked at number 1 and Meiqi at number 4.

Ep 5
The second live performance was to be the position mission. There were three positions: dance, vocal, and composition. Both Xuanyi and Meiqi chose dance and were chosen as team leaders/centers due to their high ranks. Meiqi was ranked #1 and Xuanyi was #2.

Ep 6
Meiqi's team performed a complex choreography to Tan Te and she got the highest votes in the team. (Fancam version)

Xuanyi's team danced to Promise and she also got the highest number of votes in her team. There was some drama with Xuanyi being center since one of the mentors questioned it with other people on the team dancing better than her. (Fancam version)

Ep 7
At the second elimination, Meiqi was ranked #1 and Xuanyi was #3. The next mission will be the concept mission and again they both got the center position for the songs since they got the most votes for each of their respective songs.

Ep 8
At the third live performance, Meiqi performed 'I Am That Kind of Girl'. It really highlighted how truly well-rounded Meiqi is, she even rapped a little. Her team won the favourite performance of the night. (Fancam version)

Ep 9
The last elimination before the finale was held on a cruise and had Meiqi rank #1 and Xuanyi at #3. The girls all chose their final song out of the two available and once again, Meiqi and Xuanyi did not end up on the same group.

Yeah, that's the one thing I still can't wrap my head around. I can recognise that Chaoyue has that stan attracting quality that also made Sohye and Guanlin part of their groups but to me, she's sooooo much worse on stage. On stage, she literally has the appeal of a soggy wooden log.

I'm going to be a loser and comment on my own post first. Sorry about how ugly everything looks, I ain't get the skills to make things as pretty as the Produce 48 posts.

Tencent really out Mnet'ed themselves at the end of the show. I can't believe their dumbasses basically spoiled the final line-up with a change just like Mnet did for season 2. This season of P101 was gold for all the memes and phenomenons it spawned. I still can't believe that Wang Ju had a Guardian write-up (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jun/09/chinas-beyonce-meet-wang-ju-the-pop-idol-breaking-down-beauty-barriers) lol

I stan Meiqi so much that I made a Tencent account and WeChat account and voted for her every day that it's going to be so strange not to have to vote for her now lmao. I'm so glad the show gave her so much exposure and recognition. Apart from being one of the best dancers of the current gen groups and very well-round as an idol, she's also such a nice kid and really effective as a leader.





Ngl, since Xuanyi exposed her messiness/ignorance before the show started, I was really turned off by her so I didn't really pay a lot of attention to her and she wasn't part of my OT11. I do have to give her stage presence some kudos and I do think she has matured during the show though.

Anddddd I will forever be bitter that Douzi ended up as 12th :( She pops on stage so much

I really wanted to see Douzi and Renyu make it to the final 11. (I want to see Wang Ju debut in a group, but something smaller and more permanent) Honestly, I feel bad for Chaoyue because I feel like she ended up in a lose-lose situation once she jumped up the ranks. She isn't even close to being debut-ready, not with skill, maturity, or emotional resilience, so I really hope the pressure and breakneck pace of being a very popular member in a real, active group doesn't end up stunting her growth as an idol. That said, i'm honestly pretty miffed that Kimberly didn't even make it into the top 22, while Chaoyue ended up sitting pretty in 3rd place...

That said, I'm so proud of Meiqi. She's really competent and capable as a leader in addition to being a fantastic, skilled dancer, and I love that this show really gave her a chance to shine. She stepped up from day one, and really made me fall for her with every new episode! My other bbs, too, Zining and Mengjie and Aojuan; I really hope this paves the way for them in this industry. They're all so precious and talented and hardworking ;~~~; Honestly, Chaoyue aside, I feel like this group has the potential to be really strong, so I'm looking forward to seeing where they go from here!

I guess Kimberley's intention was to gain some exposure for the China market, since she ultimately doesn't fit in with an idol group. she was actually still promoting as an artiste earlier this year if I'm not wrong, so I have no worries for her future path!

the girls that got chosen are mostly quite talented, especially in the singing department, so I hope that their next single will be great! (not that mess of a song that they performed)

this show made me love Meiqi more, and I started following it because of her and Xuanyi. I'm so glad the public gets to see her professionalism, her talents, and her heart. she truly is an amazing person, and she seems much wiser than her age.

I too wanted Douzi in, her performances were great and I thought with the last performance she could garner some popularity back, but alas. but at least my other faves from this show Fujing and Li Zi Ting are in!

I have so many feelings about this show too OP! first, it's very evident from the get go that both MQ and XY had so much pressure on themselves, because they had to get something positive from this show. and the results were definitely worth going on the show. now that all 3 of China-line are relatively popular in China, I believe it could spell great things for WJSN? my only worry would probably be the problem of MQ and XY missing out on future promotions like with the previous comeback, and I'm not sure how the arrangements would really be like, but at least it sounded better than when MQ first mentioned they wanted to restart and carve out a career in China (during the YH audition).

tbh, XY got robbed for First Love Once Again, it was truly catered for her. the judges should not have pitted her against a strong team.

also, I felt like these two videos are also worth adding on to this bandwagon!

Thanks op! Honestly, I don't have (make?) the time to follow these kind of shows but I always tremendously enjoy them - they seem like good places for trainees/idols to show more of themselves than they normally would in a group. Meiqi especially did lovely, these clips were great and I got to see a new side of her.

Hopefully both will do well with Rocket Girls.
