Studio accused of assault case with Youtuber Yang Yewan is taking legal action against Suzy

Yang Yewan received thousands of signatures on her petition to investigate "a photo studio outside of Hapjeong Station, exit 3." The studio, now under entirely new management and run by a different studio in the same location Yewan mentioned, is taking legal action against Suzy because they do not believe her apology is enough. Additionally, Katalk talks between Yewon and the studio have a portion of the public no longer believing her side of the story.


On May 17, Suzy shared on Instagram a screenshot of herself signing an online petition on the Blue House’s petition board, filed by YouTuber Yang Ye-won.

Yang came forward with an incident from three years ago where she was coerced into taking nude photos and was groped in the process at “a photo studio outside of Hapjeong Station, exit 3,” according to Yang. The Mapo Police in western Seoul is currently investing the case.

The title of the petition originally read “Hapjeong Once Picture illegal nude shoot,” but has been changed to “Hapjeong **illegal nude photo shoot” after the studio released a statement that said it had no involvement in the incident.

The number of signatures on the petition soared after Suzy posted the picture of her signature, even after the studio revealed the results of the police investigation proving it was not connected to the case.

Suzy posted an apology on her Instagram on Monday afternoon, and JYP Entertainment, Suzy’s agency, also released an official apology on Monday, but the studio remains firm that it will take legal action against the singer and her agency for damaging their business and reputation.



The owner of Once Picture studio, which currently occupies the location, stated, “The shooting date that the victim shared was before the day our studio opened. Upon taking over [the location], we remodeled the studio and have been using it since then, and so we are completely unrelated to this case.”

On May 19, Suzy took to her Instagram and stated, “I recently learned about a studio receiving damages due the change in ownership and studio name, which was [included] in the recent government petition that I signed in support for. It felt like there was more damage done because I had showed support of the [petition], and so I’d like to relay my apologies to the studio. Even though it was about doing something good, it’s definitely my fault for not looking carefully. Even now, I feel like I must let people know that this studio does not have anything to do with this issue, which is why I am posting this. But still, apart from this, I hope that those who are seeking for the truth to be revealed about this case continue hoping for that.”

In response to Suzy’s words, a source from Once Picture studio released an official statement, saying, “Suzy surely knows just how influential she is. She showed support for a petition that exposed [our] location and company name and marked us as illegal. And if she admitted that on her personal social media account, then at the very least we think it would have been proper for her to check the facts.”

The studio continued, saying, “Suzy says that she posted an apology. But we wonder if this entire incident will be forgotten with one word of an apology. It probably isn’t all just Suzy’s fault, but where should we get compensated for the damage that our studio has received through this incident? We wish for this to be a lesson on just how great the damage can be due to a celebrity’s rash utilization of [their] influence. Naturally, the one who posted the government petition; the ones who circulated [the petition]; the cyber terrorists; the Blue House (The South Korean President’s executive office and official residence), which has neglected the petition regarding defamation, and Suzy’s responsibility will be going through the review of a legal representative and we will be taking necessary civil action.”

On May 21, a source from JYP Entertainment stated, “Suzy has communicated her intent to personally apologize on May 19 to the studio; however, instead of personally receiving the apology, a source from the studio replied to contact [their] lawyer, which is why she first shared the intentions of her apology on social media.” The agency continued, saying, “We heard from the studio’s side and from now on, we will also seek consultation from a legal representative and will move forward with their opinion.”

- Suzy screenshotted the post and asked for support. The petition initially had 10,000 signatures and it rose to 160,000 after Suzy.
- The studio named in the petition was actually found to have nothing to do with her because they bought it from its previous owners. Said studio is owned by a father of a family. Due to Suzy's post, the father is at risk of losing his entire job because he's been branded as a sex predator.
- Suzy wrote an official apology while the studio declared they would be suing her
- The actual studio claims that there was no rape or anything forced. Unlike Yang Yewon's claims of filming 5 times, they claimed she filmed with them 13 times and Yang Yewon kept asking for more work from them
- Pissed off, the studio CEO released their Katalk conversations which confirmed that Yang Yewon kept asking for more work with them
- Conclusion: Yang Yewon wanted easy money with these nude photoshoots and kept asking for more work. Only now that she's famous and those pictures are getting out is she acting like a victim to recover her image, subsequently ruining the livelihoods of two studios in the process

There is a lot to unpack here. Firstly, she’s not a fraud. She was assaulted and that was never part of her contract to pose even if she went back 50 times. Other victims also came forward claiming the same happened to them.

Secondly, the blaming her for needing money and going back is hella fucked up. Being poor and backed into a corner makes you do things you’d never consider otherwise, including things considered easy money like modelling. That does not mean she signed up for being assaulted or photographed by numerous men at once and then blackmailed into silence.

Thirdly, naming the studio not knowing it had changed ownership is no ones fault and unfortunately it’s collaterol damage in this whole case. Suzy shouldn’t be held accountable and Ye Won shouldn’t be either. The fact that in all this the current owners only thoughts are on his own business and not the disgusting abuse women faced on the property he occupies is beyond.

I've been wanting to post an update on this for days now but the only english speaking source that translated the kakaotalk messages was allkpop.
This post got quite messy on asianjunkie, with people blaming the victim for going back to the studio again and again and demanding to throw her in jail, when we don't know the exact truth. Its still possible that she got sexually harassed at the location, that they threatened to release the pictures if she doesn't come back.

It's a shame we can't get more info because things are getting blurrier and any clarification can help.

I think either way the photos got leaked and they weren't supposed to. Even if the number of times or even the harassment was a lie, people's photos are getting circulated when they shouldn't. I don't know, I wish there was more info out there.

From the Studio's perspective, I don't think they care if it was 200 women. They'd still be like, "that was before our time. We had nothing to do with it." And maybe because the public was so focused on Yewon and Suzy's support, they are forgetting that other women were involved.

Someone commented in this post that the studio basically takes the same kinds of picture now. (I don't know if that's true but) If that's the case, they'd have no real reason to change the name or anything because their reputation didn't get really bad until this story blew up. There had to be a petition to get an investigation started and the girls with similar experiences weren't sharing (or at least not getting as much press as Yewon did). If they took headshots or family photos now, it'd make sense to want a change, but if it's more of the same, I don't think anyone cares.
