yeah. this is super vague. and sm will probably say more in a few hours but ... i guess ... make your speculation. i know i've seen a lot, lol. theories galore.

there's a lot that are more reaching than anything, but a few that've stood out so far:

1) the fox from the official site teaser being symbolic of jonghyun for a few reasons: he referenced foxes in a few of his songs (juliette and she is), he mentioned once that they were an animal he liked and i guess some foxes are symbolic in different cultures in asia for being guides / referencing to spirits of the (tw) deceased.

2) that the ep mentioned in the instagram / twitter posts stands for extended play - which would make sense because all of shinee's past minis were referred to as ep's. and that sm is going to split up the releases (you know, like you said, for maximum profit) and then bring everything together in a boxset for form a full album ala misconceptions of us. (but a lot of people are really really confused about what the dates mean for releases in general so a lot of speculation there.)

3) that the songs featured on the release will be a mixed bag of songs ot5 recorded in the past years that were vaulted, and the songs that they finished both for the cancelled comeback last year and during the beginning of anni release prep pre-december (which was apparently in progress).

4) that the "story" in the title is alluding to jonghyun's opus albums. (story op. 1, story op. 2 - and his first solo concert was also named the story by jonghyun.)

ultimately the biggest question in fandom is whether or not jonghyun will be featured prominently on the album, if at all. a lot of people are hoping he's on most, if not all, of the songs considering how much unreleased material they have but sm hasn't said really anything ... at all about shinee this year domestically beyond when they confirmed the domes were still happening back in january / when they confirmed the comeback and fanmeet last month.

I love the thought of the fox being Jonghyun but I don't want to get excited and then disappointed if it doesn't go that way.

The "OR" in Story is definitely stylized to fit jonghyun's story op. 1 & 2 theme. I love all of these little bits they're doing to sort of, honor him. I'm excited to see what they're gonna bring to the table! It's gonna be an emotional rollercoaster lmao but everything to support my boys ♥

this whole thing just feels weird. idk I was ok with the fan meet and a retrospective anni album but this doesn't seem like that.

I just don't want this to be hard on the guys so if they seem into it then I'll be happy.

i've seen some people speculate that sm is going all out because they'll be going into hiatus soon for enlistment and all the members won't be done with that for a minimum of five years. i mentioned some stuff above - but: "the story" does feel kind of retrospective to me but there's not much to work with yet, obviously.

yea that's fair if they want to go all out before hiatus I just hope the guys want to go all out as well. I knew once Taemin went pink (and seeing Onew in pink now too) meant something new was coming but it still feels surreal this soon. :/

my theory is that the title track either doesn't feature jonghyun (and other songs do, possibly) or it does but they have an alternate version without him for the music video and promo. it's tough because everything has been so quiet regarding it. :l

same, I hope they release the album(s) and have their annual fanmeet to connect with their Korean SHAWOLs, but if they drag them all over all the music shows and onto variety shows I worry that it may be too much

that has me worried too. Seeing Taemin performing solo and on his show, Key on Breakers, and the pics from Minho at the soccer games you can see how good it is for him to be out and working/enjoying themselves but I worry being in full Shinee mode might not be so great for them (though I know full well this is a lot of me projecting my own experiences :/)

wow this is so much to take in! like 3 mini albums with each 5 songs wow, i do wonder what it will be like, both genre and the big question if jonghyun will feature on it, i'm kinda of on the fence with it as this will put pressure on the boys too, ofc i would give anything for that one extra new song or moment of him to cherish but i don't think it's right to pressure them into doing that either, i'm totally okay with it if they are okay with, support them forever and stand by them with whatever choices they make
