TWICE reveal they didn't like the choreo for "Cheer Up"

TWICE revealed their reactions to a part of the “Cheer Up” dance during their appearance on the May 3 episode of KBS2’s “Happy Together.”

When Yoo Jae Suk asked what they meant by being embarrassed by their “posing like flowers and Nayeon watering them choreography” in “Cheer Up,” TWICE’s Dahyun expressed, “Contrary to how people see us, we honestly aren’t very good at acting cute.”

She explained how at the beginning of the song, eight of the TWICE members pair up and pose as flowers. Embarrassed, Nayeon continued, saying that she is pretending to shake and spread seeds with her hands, before she waters the “flowers” so they can bloom.

Remembering the first time they saw the dance, Dahyun commented, “It made us cringe,” Nayeon said, “We were so taken aback that the atmosphere [in the room] was bad for about five minutes or so,” while Jihyo added, “That’s right. We didn’t say anything.”

“When we were watching the choreographers dance and we saw someone ‘watering the flowers,’ all nine of us thought, “As long as I’m not that person,'” Nayeon revealed. “I didn’t know it would end up being me.”

Watching lia kim’s version of TT (who I think of the og choreographer?) really showed how simplified and cutesy jyp wants twice to be.

I wonder what other dance parts of their songs do they dislike because it's too cute.

Twice does a good job looking happy and ...not so reluctant at the cute moves.
We will probably continue seeing songs in this cutesy genre since it's selling and works very well for them :P

It sucks that they have to keep doing things like this. I hope they get to move away from the cutesy stuff at some point but I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

I think I read somewhere that GOT7 hated doing the cute concept as well and then were allowed to do something different. Wish the girls had the same freedom.

Reminds me of SNSD (especially Taeyeon) saying how much they disliked Gee lol. At least SNSD had different concepts like Genie/RDR/The Boys and fierce concepts in Japan to balance the cuteness of Gee/Oh... Twice's Japanese songs are even cuter than the Korean ones lol no escape.
With What Is Love? being so clearly a mash-up of their cute concepts (even bringing back the costume concepts from Cheer Up/TT), I hope it's a way to close an era and move to edgier concepts/songs (even if just as a double title tracks/repacks if the company is iffy about change). I really like Twice's Korean singles! but the group is so successful right now, they can also try something different for once! I'm betting that it would still do well and that the girls would welcome it. Even Signal did well lol

GFriend is doing Time For The Moon Night now, have you watched? is not cute, it's different than Love Whisper (that was after Navillera and Fingertip that you mentioned). and GFriend loves this song, they have said they are attached to it and said they loved the song so much they were afraid other people wouldn't like as much as them but the song is doing good on the charts, more stable than last year releases :)
I think with GFriend is a bit a different situation, they can have cute moves on the choreo but is not the whole choreo and they are known as powerful innocent, while the songs can be innocent the moves are powerful and that contrast makes things different.

TFTMN is more acceptable in Korea (maybe because the change wasn't so drastic like before), the song is a grower and good and can be the answer for GFriend to branch out and do more like they want but also keep their identity and what they are known for (good choreo and lyrics).

with Twice their releases seem to get cuter and cuter not only the song but the choreo and they never tried anything different after the debut, if they have done it and did bad we could understand the reason to get cuter and cuter but that never happened, so what is the reason? instead of trying something different little by little JYP just makes them get cuter.
I don't follow the b-sides that Twice promotes, is it only cute too? GFriend b-sides have been a little different Gone With The Wind, Hear The Wind Sing and Love Bug, all have elements that you can't see on the title songs and allows GFriend be more playful with the concept.

but like you said fierce doesn't sell, unless the group gets big with it, if is not the concept that made them big then korea doesn't accept the change, but if it's done with small steps a change can happen.
but twice is so big, they can change a bit and still do well.

it's like JYPE is afraid to let the girls do mature stuff because their uncle fans would probably stop paying their bills. he should form a subunit with the older girls to test the waters but i guess he only wants to promote them as the full package, given that the girls rarely have individual activities/cfs
