Their Japanese songs are really hype but whoever wrote this did Mark so dirty lmao. But their pronunciation got better! Twice J-line needs to tell them to stop aspirating so much.

does anyone happen to know how much creative freedom got7 get for their japanese releases? like i'm constantly in a state of "is this really what they wanna do?" lmao. for me, their japanese songs are very hit or miss and while i ended up really liking turn up, idk what to think of this. i think the chorus and jb's bridge are okay but the rest is just so-so. mark getting so many parts just makes me realize once again that bam is currently the best rapper in got7.

that said, i love the visuals as always!! when will their korean mvs tbh!!!

Idk what kinda magic they do over there, but the boys always end up looking 100x times more amazing in their Japanese MVs! Even if the storyline doesn't make much sense lol.

Tbh this doesn't sound like anything like the songs they produce/write themselves, so I'd guess they don't really have much creative control (at least in the song?). I feel like their Japanese releases always feel a bit impersonal compared to their SK releases.

right? going by their korean self-composed songs (or even unit songs from their previous japanese album), their japanese title tracks feel, like you said, impersonal. i think that's a good way of describing it! i'm honestly not sure what exactly jype is aiming for regarding got7's japanese promotions. i don't see a real direction, like they just release stuff and that's that? then again, i guess that goes for most kpop groups, or at least the ones that i keep track of.

Yeah ia with it seeming like they don't have much of a direction, mostly just releasing stuff to keep their Japanese presence afloat/relevant? It's weird because aside from a few articles every cb we don't hear much anything from the Japanese comebacks. and I feel like they always happen when they're already super busy with other stuff?? At least now I'm guessing since they got the tour going on they're not gonna promote this title that much (unless they did something beforehand that'll be released later)?.

i agree, flight log in particular could have been so much more than it ended up being!!! it's such a shame because the trailers for it were very pretty and intriguing but sadly they didn't manage to come through with the mvs. like fly was basically a glorified dance practive video lmao! also, coming back to this song, for something called "THE new era", this doesn't really have a ... /new/ kind of feel to it? like i honestly believed they'd do a 180 and come out with something completely fresh but maybe i just was wrong to take the title so literally lmao u____u

definitely! i wonder how japanese fans feel about that? i mean, they do japanese tours regularly and even manage to fill out bigger venues every time but everything just seems so aimless. i doubt they have anything that can be released later. i assume they are gonna go on their world tour, come back to korea and then release a new korean album? i wouldn't hold my breath for any japanese promotions aside from their concert stops.

I feel like their JPN titles always sound so noisy at first listen (idk why they insist on that let's-all-shout-together-singing they have going, but the falsettos were a nice surprise), and I haven't given it a second try yet, just been over at twitter admiring the pretty gifs the MV gave us

I don't understand the lip fade trend SK is obsessed with, but that being said, I don't think it's that bad here? Maybe it's just bad (photo)filters in this case *shrugs*

I think you're right, tho imo Jackson does the deep-voiced rapping better than Mark (even if I think I remember some people hating that about JS's rapping lol)

I just asked this (sorta) myself above, I realize I have no idea how they're doing in Japan, their JPN promos always seem to sneak up on us/me out of nowhere and fade away just as quickly.

This might be personal preference then (and I admit to having questionable taste every now and then lol) but I like Jackson's tone/voice (as fake as it may be) more than Mark's tbh. That's why I always liked Bambam's and JS's rapping more in got7 (but this doesn't extend to JS's solo work, I'm as repelled by it as you are).

i can't provide receipts but i remember reading something about youngjae being the most popular member in japan, simply based on the fact that his merch at concerts and fanmeetings usually sells out first! i feel like mark is very popular as well because he really has that ~cute bf stuff going for him and he never shies away from doing aegyo lmao idk about the rest though!

It's Mark and JB, with Jinyoung following close behind. Maknae line seems to fluctuate, with Youngjae leading as of right now. My sister and brother-in-law went to Budokan and they pointed out the hype around Markbum's 'Why' was very palpable.

Actually, I think Mark's popularity follows a similar trend worldwide? He's always first or second while the rest of the members change about lol

Mark's popularity is always a little surprising. You'd think that because he's content with keeping to himself when not on official GOT7 activities he wouldn't be one of the more popular members (not a shade btw I think it's nice his hobbies don't revolve around the entertainment industry and people who expect him to devote his free time to it are being ridic).

the myth of youngjae being the most popular in japan was created because like you said his merch sold out first at one of the concerts but if we think about it, all members had their merch sold out first in the past.

it's true that youngjae gained more fans recently but jb and jinyoung remain the most popular members in japan
judging from the number of japanese fans i encountered on twitter, mark is also one of the popular members.

I feel like this needed more obnoxiousness to work - MORE singy chanting (omg OP my favourite part I howled when I saw you didn't like it because we are cursed to always disagree on everything lmao), MORE noise during the parts where the vocals dropped out - the "attention" is a poor man's Fire Truck "sobangcha" - and there's definitely a few times that Mark crosses into impersonating Jackson.

The melody at one of Jinyoung's parts is very Never Ever's baby you belong to me.

I realize I also like the "attention" chanting better in their song called Attention more than the chanting of the word here (iirc and my memory doesn't deceive me, the word just reminds me of that part). Tho is it me or is Jinyoung's vocals more prominent there than the rest?

Maybe there's some similarities between the build-ups in Jinyoung's parts, but I'm mostly caught up in his vocals, I like the softness/airiness of his voice here right before the drop (I guess that's similar to Never Ever? I don't remember anymore). The falsettos were also the most surprising part of the song which kinda otherwise runs the same-ish through-out.

tl;dr I don't understand this song like I don't understand most of their JPN titles but damn if they don't look criminally good every time.

I love got7 the bestest of the kpop men but their music is always not quite there. This may be obnoxious enough to work out too, but why can't it be just a little bit better? Come on JYP! Though, I died when they make Jinyoung go into falsetto -- take the vocal with deepest/least whiny voice and ask him to go high. Cracked me up. (In a good way.)

Mark started out rapping like a wanna be Jackson, so I was happy that in his main verse he sounded more natural. I assume he got so many more lines than Bambam because his Japanese is better, but I wish he was more naturally talented at rapping/music. (biased.)

And I'm kind of happy Jackson isn't around; his solo releases and instagram pics are so damn painful I am struggling to remember that he is a nice, charming, cute man.

I think Jinyoung has always had quite a nice falsetto? It suits him imo (and is a nice contrast to his naturally deep voice). Lol to me it's the best part of the song /shamelessly and unsurprisingly biased

And as much as want I want to support all the members in their endevours, I have to agree with you on Jackson. I just can't ever see him quite the same way as I did before, with the route he's decided to go with his solo work... just... why. (yet the dance class I go to there's some kpop fans as well and they seem all to like his solo work the way they always play his songs on the stereos and I'm just thinking... am I just not seeing/hearing the same thing as you are because?? I guess music taste really is that subjective huh)

Jinyoung sounds good, I just think it's funny. It's like they refuse to have a song where everyone has to sing in their lower registries, instead they just ask Jinyoung to get high. It's funny to me, even if it works.

It's rather nice the song is less nasal-y than most of theirs.
