Right, so I'm happy they're coming back and the mini film thing was awesome. The boys look great and I was super excited until I read their comments abt the concept.

Jealousy is NOT sexy. Jealousy is usually violent and destructive. And I know bc mysoginy is such a part of cultures across the globe, we've been conditioned to see it as a form of love/care, but it's not. This tired "only look at me" trope, is gross. And now I'm extremely nervous for the lyrics of this song/this comeback.

mx’s title track lyrics have already been extremely misogynistic, tho? it’s a common theme in a lot of boy group lyrics with harder / sexier concepts but speaking of mx, a ton of their title tracks are like “i’m not like the other guys, look at me only.” & speaking of one of their older, sexier tracks, “hero” is probbably on a similar level as what “jealousy” is going to be: “i discovered just one problem, yeah / all those fake, wolf-like guys who keep bothering you” (full disclaimer: this translation is from pop!gasa (https://popgasa.com/2015/09/06/monsta-x-hero))

hopefully now that production companies are having better censors on heavy domestic / romantic violence, they’ll try to do a similar thing for kpop lyrics too

I didn't say I was shocked or it's uncommon, so? I took issue with those lyrics as well, bt i didn't follow MX during that era and don't typically comment on grps I don't follow...

I'm just bummed. I saw them last yr in concert and had a fantastic time, bt this year I've just been blah abt everything they've released and was hoping this would be good and also unproblematic.

i read your original comment, too. to me, it seemed like you were saying all these themes in mx's bought songs was a new thing—like they'd never had titles where the central theme was being jealous before—so i brought up “hero.” and i've been reading through their title & second promotional tracks and even “now or never” (their first week promo track for the code) has lyrics that can be read with that theme. and those are all bought songs, with the exception of “from zero”

it's not new, was all i was saying. i doubt they have any input in which songs their company buys or which songs are actually chosen for title tracks. imo, it's one thing if they've been writing them for themselves. they've definitely got input: jooheon & i.m write all their raps, as well as 5 of them having writing credits, but if you wanted to judge mx off their lyrics, why not judge the songs they've written with little outside input?

only 2 words of the legit song have been teased, anyway, and i'm cautiously optimistic that the song might not be as bad (lyrically) as the title says! that's what i liked about their first minis using korean titles for their tracklists

I listened to The Code, maybe twice and gave it a hard pass. Drama Rama eventually grew on me, bt i didn't bother with lyrics bc I didn't like any of the songs enough😭

I wish Starship would let them write and produce more, tho that wouldn't guarantee none problematic themes or wtvr. I feel like a Debbie Downer with them lately, and they were my 2nd fave grp.

Ill hold off final judgment until it's actually released and be praying its not as bad as my negative ass is anticipating🤞🏿.

I don't even care about it not being a storyline based mv (but who knows!) since they already gave us the music film and this sounds like everything I've ever wanted. I can vividly hear the song in my head already and boy I hope they deliver!

In regards to the lyrics: I had hoped that they wouldn't go down that route but I'm not surprised or shocked. Boy groups always romanticise jealousy and sadly MX aren't exempt from that... hopefully they'll tone it down a bit though. I want something real saucy.
