You just know when they finally do drop an album it'll be a compilation of unreleased 2NE1 and Bigbang songs. I always highkey felt like they were releasing unused 2NE1 songs (but, in their defense, idk if Teddy knows how to write for girl groups without sounding like 2NE1) but when AIIYL was a confirmed as supposed to be a 2NE1 song I was gagged. That being said, funnily enough, I found AIIYL to be the closest to a distinct 'Blackpink sound' that we had gotten so far.
I'll believe it when I have the album in my hand, m8, thanks.
*edit* I was in Japan in Jan and they were everywhere there, there was a special IKON/BP cafe in Shibuya Mens, and the Shibuya 109 building had their image on, as well as a pop up shop.
Plus their Jpn mini that was in Tower Records. Absolutely nothing to show for their 1 year in Korea though :/
What is this 'cafe' strategy I see some of these groups promoting in Japan use? Twice also had a Candy Pop Cafe for their last Japanese release and it's such a strange concept to me. Do they hope fans will buy some of the extra merch they have there? Like a pop-up shop but in cafe form? Is it to get people who just want to stop for food and drinks into the group?
Well pop up shops and cafe's seem to be a pretty common thing in Japan anyway, I've only been twice but there's always a ton of anime ones, I've seen some pro wrestling themed events and lots of other stuff haha, so I guess they're just tapping into that.
I went to the BP cafe in Shibuya and I had to queue for maybe half an hour? It was pretty full when I was there, and they do special food sets which you get free member coasters and other collectibles . It seemed like it was all fans of the group already, you get a random member with each order, so you can swap with other fans. I had the strawberry milkshake and strawberry pancake set, and got Lisa's coaster, idk it wasn't too expensive and the food was ok. I know the IKON menu was pasta or something.
They don't sell any merch there though, they had the pop up shop for that. (I picked up a tshirt, file, make up pouch and random member badge, the designs were rly nice imo)
Thank you so much for the information! I knew that there were a lot of themed cafes in Japan but it's pretty cool that they're used for things such a anime, sports, musical artists etc. It seems like a cool way for a bunch of fans of a particular thing to meet up, eat, and talk about stuff.
np! Yeah when I was there there was Yuri On Ice themed cafes and pop up snack/drinks vans outside the Animate building, there were always queues! There are so many of these little events happening as well, I saw an idol group performing inside an HMV + Books store, and a Butler cafe doing a singing set outside haha!
Other companies are a mess but YG has it's own very unique brand of mess. I really don't know what they're trying to accomplish with their so-called strategy. This group has so much hype but they have zero to work with.
on one hand i'm glad they aren't run into the ground with packed idol schedules, especially because of how popular they are but like...5 songs in two years is pretty shit. no physical releases yet either right?
