A group of AV stars with a pure concept lol this is like peak Male Sexuality.
This made me realize the gap between jpop vocals and kpop vocals isn't as big as kpop fans like to pretend it is though, because the vocals here don't sound any worse than the vocals of most k-pop girl groups.
I wish them the best but everything about this and who it is for grosses me out.
A lot of people are telling them to go back to Japan. I don't agree with their concept but the backlash for that makes me think they aren't going to last very long.
I mean, one of the members (Mikami Yua) has openly talked about her love for K-pop in the past so it's not completely out of the blue. I understand the concern and all but iirc they're self-funded so it's not like they were forced to go to South Korea to be in a girl group.
Yeah, I know. I just don't think it's a good idea at all and I don't think it will end well. Pure concept groups already get targeted especially badly for upskirt videos and stuff. They will be targeted even more so due to the ethnicity and prior work and I doubt anything will be done to defend them.
I doubt they'll be a last very long but that's not surprising. Honestly when I heard an all foreign, sex working girl group was gonna debut my expectations were very low. Cute/sexy concepts will always somewhat pander to straight guys but I'm honestly surprised there were no dog-whistling in the video. Idk, I get the skepticism but when you're not from a big company it's hard to be succesful if you don't do a concept like that.
In a world full of pure concept girl groups that all look and sound identical and all have mediocre sales, I doubt following this model will grant them any success lol. If anything doing something unusual would be more likely to help nugus stand out.
I don't think they'll last long either, mostly because of xenophobia and misogyny. It's just... a lot lol. They've definitely been put together as a gimmick to earn quick cash imo.
If they did something kind of neutral like Eodiya or No Oh Oh I think it would feel ten times less skeezy. Everyone knows pure concepts are infamous for their sexualization and having a girl group made of sex workers do one makes it really clear who they're marketing to (the guys who upload upskirt videos of my girls on youtube or the guys who follow Rola's instagram =/)
It's very obvious their company just considers this a big ass publicity stunt - they're setting these girls up to have a fanbase that only fetishizes them. It's bad enough that Korea sometimes stereotypes Japanese girls as "slutty" in the first place due to the popular of Japanese porn in SK.
I just think it's a lot to assume their intentions based on their other profession, especially since this is self funded and one of them is known as a kpop fan. Why assume the worst of them?
Not assuming anything of the members, I'm assuming the worst of a company that wants to throw together a bunch of sex workers and market them as a scandalous gimmick. Self-funded isn't really anything to brag about - Block B were self funded too, and that's part of what led to their eventual lawsuit against Stardom. Yookyung self-funded APink and then got kicked out once the company had drained enough money out of her.
My point being... self-funded very often means "scam" and I think that's very possibly likely in this case because again, this group is being marketed as a sideshow gimmick more than a serious project, which is made obvious by the fact that their company spent so much time mediaplaying the members' sex work, they had to cancel their debut showcase due to lack of preparations. Likely a company said "Sure, we'll take you on, but only if you help foot the bill."
They're debuting in SK instead of Japan not only because the members are kpop fans, but also because this gimmick has been performed so many times in Japan in the last few years, that no one cares anymore. There have been several AV idol groups and it just doesn't make a splash or move units now.
If the plan was to make them into a pop group there's no way they would skip the second biggest musical industry for one that's much smaller. Even the floppiest j-idol group is much more successful than a flop k-idol group.
The size difference is part of what makes Japan harder, imo. Way more competition. There are hundreds of idol groups in Japan that literally perform in basements for audiences of 20 people. There are hundreds more than only perform locally and never venture outside their own city. It is very, very hard to get noticed as an idol group in Japan, whereas just the word "AV actress idol group" gets you a ton of articles in Korea. I would argue the floppiest j-idol group is definitely not more successful than a nugu k-idol group because, like I said, Japan has tiers of idols way lower than Korea - basement idols, local idols, net idols, etc.
I didn't expect it to be good? I honestly thought it'd be a mess but it's cute! I feel bad for the for girl with the orange tips though, she barely got any screentime
This is better than a LOT of other kpop girl group debuts and I can imagine several would've loved something this well put together. Wishing them luck!
I really like it! The quality of the MV is superior to a lot of nugu MVs, I found it really appealing. I enjoy the song a lot, and I want to support them with all the grief coming their way.
