If you are Korean, or are a fan of Korean foods, you must know BiBimBap - one of the best, if not the best dish in Korea. If you don't know what it is, I'll explain it to you guys quick and brief. BiBimBap is a dish mixed with various vegetables and beef to go along with the rice. But the most important ingredient is the red pepper paste, known as GoChuJang in Korea. Now how would a BiBimBap stir up a controversy with Infinity Challenge?

Recently, Korea's Japanese bureau chief Kuroda Katsuura (黑田勝弘·68) made offensive comments towards BiBimBap, in Japan's Sankei News. On December 26th's column in Sankei's newspaper, he described BiBimBap as an, "unknown dish which loses all the different beautiful colors and looks gnawed when you are mixing the rice with vegetables" as well as commenting that, "he is worried about the Americans who might become surprised of that dish which tastes different than how it looks, after deciding to eat BiBimBap because of the advertisement pictures." He also added that, "in Korea, they are trying to globalize the Korean foods by using their campaigns which promotes selling BiBimBap throughout the world by canvassing everywhere. Recently, they have been advertising BiBimBap through advertisement in American newspapers."

The last comment which said "through advertisement in American newspapers" were made towards MBC's Infinity Challenge team, when they were promoting BiBimBap in New York Times with professor Seo Kyung Duk, on December 21st.

After reading the comments, the netizens, as well as Kim Tae Ho PD and professor Seo Kyung Duk became very furious.

Regarding the comments made by Kuroda Katsuura, professor Seo Kyung Duk commented:
He tried to rationalize his own opinion and wrote in the newspaper column as if it were the opinions of many people. It was a very foolish action. ... A representative of New York Times said that our recent BiBimBap advertisement left a huge impression to the New Yorkers, to the point where some customers actually brought the newspaper which had the advertisement to the restaurant to order BiBimBap.

Kim Tae Ho PD added:
Someone who is in a very high position, in a big media, reacted very ignorantly. ... The media press who published the column itself has a problem as well.

Kuroda Katsuura in the past stirred up other controversies such as that "Dokdo (island) is a symbol of patriotism" and that he "choose the rich women because he was poor" through the same media, Sankei News.

Even though I'm not a Korean, I'm offended too.
I'm somebody who has hated vegetables to the core since I was 6 but I absolutely love BiBimBap.
Plus, it's part of Korea, a part of their culture; there's no right for one to judge like that.

Lol judging food on its looks?? Has he even tasted it...

Besides, doesn't all food look equally unappetizing when chewed? This is so ridiculously biased and ignorant that I'm surprised it came from such a prominent person. :/

i think he means it looks as if it has been chewed up already, when you mix it up. because you have to mix up bibimbap first to eat it, so it doesn't look like the pretty picture while you're eating

If you get a chance, do it. I eat it like I've been starving for a year it is so good. It's also kinda fun to mix everything up together and its not like the veggies change colour so idek what the hell they're talking about it being ugly when mixed.

also if it weren't for korean food i wouldn't be eating bean sprouts. a day at a korean restaurant helped me embrace vegetables that i wouldn't normally eat.

I don't understand what's wrong with globalizing Korean foods? His comments make it sound like a bad thing.

You get to learn about different cultures and get to taste different realms of deliciousness. What's not to like about that?

it's totally fun to mix it up! i'm also about 3 years old deep down. how does mixing a dish change its overall taste? also, has he ever looked at a McD's ad and then the actual product once ordered? not everything in ads look the same when you actually get it, and that goes for everything.

AND BIBIMBAP TASTES HEAVENLY GOOD OK? gosh.

Butthurt. This is like if I insulted Tiramisu and Italians being pissed at me.

Or insulting cheese cake and having to deal with my mother forever.

Except I like both those things. 8D

Or insulting sushi and having the Japanese attack me. Which btw, I do hate sushi. D8 But I love Japan.

haha, for the record, Americans aren't ignorant enough to pass over food just because it looks funny. besides, we're such a melting pot of diverse cultures...most of us try new foods because someone recommends it to us, be it friends and family or Rachel Ray. You want to globalize Korean food (or at least put it in the American mainstream like Chinese food?) Put it on the Food Network. lol.

bibimbap is delicious, and the mixing part is half of the fun (the other half is eating it, of course).

not all americans are ignorant enough to not eat a dish just because it looks "gnawed." idk what he's talking about. D:
what's wrong with promoting it?
