in today's WTF news: SM Entertainment help fans to get on the same flight as their faves

SM Entertainment is offering a "SM Global Package" for their upcoming SM Town concert in Dubai. International fans can basically purchase the whole deal through SM, which includes accommodation, a city tour, merch and tickets for the same flight SM's artists are taking.



As stated above there will also be an in-flight event, which means that all artists have to wear full makeup and be in idol-mode the whole flight from Dubai to Japan (9 hours).

Since fans will be placed in the economy class, artists will most likely end up in the business or first class I guess, but still they won't be able to fully rest on the flight since fans will take every chance to get a peak at their oppa and unnie.

The whole package retails for 4M won (~3600$).

My main issue with this (aside from the obvious encouraging of terribly-behaved "fans") is that this is basically pimping out their artists. Any semblance of respect for their artists as human beings with an autonomous right to just exist (even in transit between schedules) has been completely thrown out the window in favor of SM basically selling them off to the highest bidder. Especially during a flight, where idols used to be able to just relax a tiny bit between locations and not worry too much about how they look or appear in public, they now don't really get a chance to rest.

I mean i'm not that opposed to this considering what their day to day flight experiences are like. everyone knows it's happening and security will be on the flight. It's prob better than having the fans track and buy tickets on their regular flights and sit with them in their class.

it could have been 5-7 days on a cruise ship that's been the trend here with acts. here's hoping it's a double-decker fancy dubai airline and they have the whole top floor for the idols and staff.

their global packages are always OTT with upgrades throughout but never included the artists before. I guess they're testing out whether including a few is worth the price tag to fans.

I think best case scenario is that someone does something stupid before the flight begins and they evacuate the idols quickly and send the sasaengs into the ocean on their way and issue an apology later.
