(TW) Model accuses photographer Rotta of sexual harassment #metoo

Suspicions have been raised against photographer Rotta (Choi Won Seok), who is known for his controversial photo shoots, after he was accused of sexually harassing a model.

On February 28, the model spoke about the allegations through an interview on MBC’s “Newsdesk.” She stated that she was an ordinary university student when Rotta first approached her through social media to be his model five years ago.

She recalled, “[Rotta] told me to bite his fingers. He claimed that he had asked other models to do the same thing before. He kept caressing me.” She left the studio when Rotta did not stop his advances despite her refusal. She added that Rotta took explicit photos of her entire body, unlike his initial promise to not capture anything below her shoulders.

The model mentioned that Rotta continued to send her messages after the photo shoot which read, “I couldn’t resist as you were too beautiful.” When she requested for Rotta to delete the photos, he replied, “How can I delete them when they are so beautiful?”

In response to the allegations, Rotta denied any wrongdoing and stated, “I asked the model for her consent during the photo shoot and there were no questions raised at that time.” He has not released any further statements since.

He's a piece of fucking shit and I question anyone who has gone out of their way to defend him or his disgusting work over the years.

He's had a long running reputation as a creep ever since taking pictures of people's children without their consent. That combined with his love for the lolita aesthetic tells you everything you need to know. Despicable.

I've seen people on here and tumblr try to defend his work as ~super feminist and empowering~ because their faves worked with him / defended his work, I wonder what people will have to say now. He didn't even try to hide the fact that he was scum so I don't understand why everyone tried to defend him.

I hope the model is okay. Knowing someone has pictures like that and knowing they can hold them over your head is terrifying.

His photography isn't even good. It's a total ripoff other styles (mostly Japanese ones) that have been done for ages, the only thing "branding" is the lolita/porn angle so it's obvious what exactly it is that keeps people caping for him.

Seriously how is this still a thing? How do women keep working with these men? So many "photographers" on Instagram have nothing but pics of young girls, often suggestive or in various states of undress and it boggles my mind how people are still able to delude themselves into thinking there is anything but a sleazy asshole behind them. It's not "art", not to mention it's 2018 - we can take our own nudes by now if we're that crazy set on having any.

instafame or fire selfies overrides critical thinking. not to mention most of these kids (cuz they are usually underage) are never signing releases with these dudes too.

i'm in a photog/models group on fb and a lot of it just feels like men sharing their personal spankbanks cuz all of the shoots are shitty pin up and all "trade for pics" with the model. makes me rage.

Yep, it's super scummy because most of these models have no idea about photo rights and whatnot and once they sign off on them their photos belong to the creep that took them and he can use or sell them for pretty much anything without them getting a single cent. But hey, they might get a tag :/

I'm more than ready for the #metoo movement to start moving in on these predators because so far it's mostly applied to celebrity circles (and even then all the big fashion photographers that were called out as pervs are still on the loose) and all these guys creeping on girls that don't know better consistently fly under the radar even though they are causing so much emotional and physical damage. It's good to see that professional models are starting to demand more rights but that is not really going to help the girls these guys target.

My heart breaks for the model who had to go through this :( and all the potential victims. This account could hint as a specific pattern for Rotta to trap unexperienced, young women in his studio and then use the explicit pictures to pressure them.

His photos for Stellar's 'Sting' mini album were the only thing I didn't like about that era. Everything else was fine but they crossed the line into seedy and overly sexualised again.

I hope he hasn't pulled this shit or worse with other women but I'm not holding my breath.

he has been, for the most part, he's been blacklisted by conde nast but it's being kept quieter than it should be. a lot of agencies won't hire him either and models are straight up refusing to work with him.

but sadly he's made his money. he could never work again and he'd be fine :/

No idea how this dude keeps getting away with it. You'd think, much like with Woody Allen, that men who've been accused of sexual misconduct time and again before #MeToo would finally be getting the boot now that the movement has gained momentum, but the opposite seems true? It's depressing. I guess if the allegations weren't believed before, it doesn't make much of a difference now.

Has there ever been a less shocking announcement made in Korean entertainment? Absolute scum. I hope he suffers some severe consequences because if he gets away from this with a slap on the wrist then it sends a clear signal to all the other photographer creeps out there.
