GFRIEND To Make Japanese Debut in May

On February 23, their agency Source Music stated, “GFRIEND will be making their official debut in Japan. They have signed on with the well-known Japanese record company King Records and is aiming to release their debut album in May.”

GFRIEND made their Korean debut in 2015 with “Glass Bead” and have since become one of Korea’s representative girl groups with songs like “Me Gustas Tu,” “Rough,” and “Love Whisper.” They have impressed with their “powerful-innocent” concept, and Japanese fans are already showing great interest in the group with the opening of GFRIEND’s official Japanese teaser website.

The girl group held their first solo concert “Season Of GFRIEND” in January and is set to embark on an Asia tour on February 28 that will take them to locations like Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan.

yes, they have and had showcases there in 2016 and went to Kcon Japan in 2017 but now it's official with a label, a debut month, an announcement by the King Records and they trended on new sites in Japan.

I feel like kpop girl groups with this type of image usually don't do very well in Japan - the crowd that likes uhhh I'll be polite and call it pure concepts (I mean lolicons lmao) are usually major right wingers who hate Koreans, and the crowd who likes kpop are usually girls who either stan boy groups or prefer girl crush concepts.

Basically they're too similar to Japanese girl groups but can't appeal to Japanese male fans because they're Korean and can't appeal to Japanese kpop fans because their sound/image is too Japanese and they want something different.

FINALLY lmao, it's been two years since they (and Lovelyz) announced it, debut album could be anything ("Best of Korea" album like APink, 2PM, Momoland, etc have done) or hopefully go Twice and released Japanese ver song of their title tracks to get those over with, looking forward to it!

Plus groups usually just re-hash their old songs in Japanese. I want NEW music.
