I think they've missed their window for any year to be their year BUT I do think it will be the group's best at least quality-speaking.

Yeah, maybe it's more about fans wishing SK would wake up to Got7 and they'd have the same kind of hype on homeground as they do overseas. I don't know will they ever have explosive success but ia that at least they prove themselves by the music they put out being better than the previous, and developing themselves individually as well beside the group.

I'd say the ppl checking on Got7 on omona are pretty good at analyzing the group dynamics so maybe you'll get your answer lol (tbh I haven't spent too much time on that myself lately so idk tbh. Only thing I can say about Jackson is there was a period were he gave out a frustrated, almost desperate vibe about not reaching the success they were waiting for, but that seems to have calmed down (or maybe I just haven't been paying attention). I think they've come to terms or are coming to terms with that their success is the kind that builds slowly but surely overtime rather than over-night, and the group dynamic is also better because the members feel better about where they stand and after the good year (I think?) they had last year.

(I mean this is just me thinking out loud, I don't follow everyone as closely as some do so I might've missed something, sorry the million edits)

Lol I see now from the other replies I totally got side-tracked with my comment but I'll let it be, it's these kind of questions/posts that often give me more insight (even if given by subjective opinions by onlookers) to the group rather than finding it out~ by myself tbh. I'm not a very dedicated analyser/too deep in fan, but I would say that Mark seems more prone to mood swings, or showing that he didn't have a good day on camera. (this has happened in a few of their vlives/interviews)

but yea the group interactions seem less tense these days, as compared to 2017.

I can't really say anything about the group dynamics as a whole since I got into got7 a month ago and really don't know much (I only followed JJP till then) but I am absolutely fascinated with markson, cause people were obsessed with them together and for the life of me i just don't see it. shipping being kinda weird aside, sometimes i get where people are coming from, but in their case i'm just like ???

i don't think they actively dislike each other, but i feel like jackson is much better at and much more willing to please the crowd and do what's expected of him, which at some point was playing into that whole markson scenario. i don't think mark enjoyed it and it got kinda tense (i don't think it was the only reason but i feel it might have been an issue). when comes to those two i think they need someone to act as a buffer between them. they seem perfectly fine with each other when someone else is with them?

Haha, I never got the markson ship either (esp as they both seem to be more comfortable with, say, Jinyoung and Bambam). But I noticed recently how Jackson will pull Mark into things/Mark helping him out with stuff/them talking to each other in fancams and there seems to be not a ship, but at least a genuine affection there. In the end, we don’t know any of these people but I’m happy as long as they’re trying to make things work because their group dynamics is so warm and idk it feels like coming home when I see them all together lmao.

But if we’re playing fan psychology, I’d say JB has been a bit quiet/moody and ofc, the eternal conundrum of the Mark/Youngjae dynamic haha.

thank you for making this post and thus reminding me to watch it with english subs! this was such a cute vlive. like five minutes into it, jinyoung did his aegyo which had me dead and gone. my god, that was too cute. lmao jaebum's reaction. he truly lives for jinyoung acting cute and honestly, me too. me too!!!! i missed the part when jinyoung talked about last year and his individual activities so i'm gonna have to catch up on that but i always get so :''') when they talk about verse 2 promotions. the fan questions were less cringey than i thought they would be lmao! and surprisingly so many fans from turkey/europe!!! that was cool. all the random awards and their fascination with that robot were so adorable hahah i love them

i caught the end of this vlive and i was laughing at them stalling so they could to 1 billion hearts :P but it's amazing, a few days ago nct broke a record with 500 million hearts and now got7 came and wiped the floor with everyone lmao

i don't know if this will be their year but i think it's going to be a good one anyway! i'm excited for the comeback and the tour (i'm praying they'll come to berlin or warsaw because i really want to see them).

this was a cute vlive and they all looked stunning, but that's a given :)

kinda OT GOT7 rant: ive been following got7 since debut and they're my number 1 ult group. i was so into them during just right/if you do (which was their peak musically imo) i was rooting for them so hard and i truly thought they were on the way to becoming an IT boy group but then they came back with the flight log series and it disappointed me so hard i was devastated lmao... like i really love them, but i've become so bitter and it truly makes me angry that they keep promoting the worst title tracks. like no wonder korea isn't checking for them SDDKS idc if i get called a fake ahgase, i LOVE them i just want them to do BETTER. 7for7 wasn't all that good like tbh, You Are had no chance to become a hit (they would've had a better change with TEENAGER imo) and i don't know what the point of this rambling comment is anymore, it just makes me so sad like i've been their stan for 4 years, i love all the members with all my heart but i just want them to really DELIVER but they just don't ;(((( i'd give up my first newborn for their next comeback to be a public friendly hit TBH

i don't think you're being a fake fan at all! i'm a big bts fan but since Fire i've been constantly disappointed (with exception of spring day, the true queen supreme) and i don't feel bad about admitting it! you love got7 but you don't enjoy their content, it's perfectly natural to be bitter. i think they can do much better. it's all in there, individually (or as jjp) they've been showing it constantly, but for some reason they're making a lot of wrong choices for the group...
i have my fingers crossed for a public friendly single too, i hope we'll get what we want this time!

I understand where you're coming from and feel free to rant! I can't say I haven't either been pleased with some of the choices they've made (in the beginning I was a bigger fan of their personalities rather than their music and only a few tracks really got a lot of plays on my iPod). Since then I've grown to like their music (mostly the newer stuff) and am quite happy with the direction they're going with, it's not perfect, but there's different aspects of it that are something I'm happy with. But yeah I also pray they'd come up with that public friendly hit just because of how much it would do for them :< I hate to say the whole "they've got so much potential!!" mantra but shit, it's true. Idk is it ironic/sad/whatever but imo I think Verse2 is the best album/concept/execution they've put out, and it's not even a Got7 album lol.

BUT I still like them, some of their music, and I feel like they're getting better with every cb so that makes me content.

Let's send good vibes and energy for their next comeback and title track and hope for the best!

I agree. I’m not a got7 Stan but I’m definitely a fan and they used to put out bops until they reached the flight log series.
People would say they had no identity but I think they definitely fit the tacky yet charming hip hop/R&B niche very well and were on their way to something great with their release of MAD. Trash log really did a number on them but I also feel like JYP is not putting in the effort with them them either.

No, I get you. While I really like Fly as a song, Flight Log in general was a huge letdown. Especially coming after IYD.

I also agree with choosing You Are as the title track, Teenager was my second bop of the year. It was seriously a jam and I feel like they should've promoted that more and tried to focus more on their fun, upbeat sound to get more recognition.

Ugh sorry I'm rambling too, I just get frustrated because I want them to do well and they have such amazing talent. Watching the crowd reaction during their Teenager perf at the MBC Music Festival had me feeling things and I was just like AHHH BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME

Honestly? I don’t really care of a ‘year’. I don’t need an explosion or all-kills or a shining daesang as a fan, even if that’s what they want. What I want is for them to keep growing, to keep improving, to keep proving people wrong. Despite the lack of awards, I had a blast from Verse2 until the end of the year awards. So yeah :)

This. Also i think after watching NUEST on Produce 101. I realised that GOT7 is pretty much successful,, even if they are not up to EXO/BTS level. They are one of the few group that can sell 200-300k, have successful tour, constantly in awards/end year show getting awards.

Also im actually glad they're not that BIG that people will forever associate them with group name it's easier for them to branch out doing solo activities.

I still have a sort of dichotomy(?) about how Got7 and kpop work. I guess I wish for them to have "a Year" because that's the mindset I see kpop working as, and I feel like Got7 wants to also follow the formula to feel that sense of success. It took them a long time to even get their first music show win (with IYD!) and I can only imagine what it felt like having being a group from the Big 3 and not "being successful" in the way a Big 3 group should be (and I hate to be forced to equate their worth/talent to how much "success" (subjective) they have because that's how kpop works).

I guess I could also say 2017 was their "year" because they had a lot of success then and I felt some sort of realization sink in about what their image was and how they would continue (I know there's people saying they had good albums/titles before already and a solid image but I have to say I belong to the group that did not care for e.g Just Right and didn't see their earlier releases as anything very noteworthy. BUT then again maybe because I wasn't a fan back then I didn't see the charm and I acknowledge how much success Just Right had and how it should've been their "shot to fame" (I personally hoped IYD would've been their "shot to fame" and they could've released more songs with that style and concept), but on the other hand the members themselves didn't really care for the concept and haven't looked back since lol. I still hope they would do something similar to IYD again.)

Last year in an interview Youngjae talked about wanting to win awards and wondering what they were doing wrong when they weren't winning them, and while I haven't particularly been losing sleep over them not winning all the awards (because as you said their music keeps improving, they keep improving individually and as a group, that is commendable in itself), I feel bad that this groups career trajectory has been what it is. They're successful and keep improving themselves, but the change has been gradual instead of explosive and their success stories are "small" things (not like huge milestones) and scattered over a long period of time. In Kpopverse, some might argue that is not good enough. And while I can also tune that out (gosh, it took me so long to decide on getting a kpop-twitter just because of what a mess that site can be but I've learned to handle it), I wonder how the members themselves feel about it? I'm just an outsider looking in so idk how they sense all of these things.

I just hope they see that they ARE successful and talented, and see the (musical and team/individual) growth as I do as a fan.

Np, I know I myself also enjoy time marks on longer videos, just to get the gist of the good stuff and for future viewing, so I try to provide! :)

1: That boy is such a treat to the eyes, I love the low buttoned shirt he's sporting (at least I can enjoy that from him which I know I won't get from my bias lol).

2: I love that as soon as someone throws the bait, people are ready to write the essays lol (I don't mean this as a bad thing, and I'm glad to see people are so eloquent and tactful about it without the whole post devolving into a mess)
