The finalists of “The Unit” have been revealed.

On February 10, “The Unit” aired its final episode. The show will produce two project groups after it ends, Unit G (girls) and Unit B (boys), and 9 members were chosen through votes for each group.

I'm happy that ZN made top 9 but I've totally lost interest now that Euna and Semmi are out. Like, I'm mad. I mean they're all sweet girls but together there's such a lack of...personality? That's the wrong word but like. Literally only Euijin has a standout stage presence of all nine. (Eta: bland. That's the word I'm looking for. This is the blandest line-up they could have picked. ) Regardless, I hope this leads to a solo debut for Yangji, and a bigger fanbase for the groups. (I have no idea what Suji/Yoonjo/Hyunjoo will get out of this. Acting careers? )

I'm glad GD Jiwon fell out of top 9 so she doesn't get hate for taking the place of a longer- struggling idol (and yay comeback as ten with a bigger fanbase for Lucky and Jiwon! Heejin filmed for Mask Singer lately too). I also hope so hard this means a quick & hyped comeback for Matilda.

I have too many feels I can't sleep, so here goes my essay!

I'm happy for my faves Feeldog and male Euijin, but sad for JeUp and Lee Geon. What will Geon do on his own now... :'( I was afraid Unit B wouldn't have any main vocal but yas Chan, snatch all those high notes. The twists I did not see coming were the rankings of ZN, Marco, Euna, Semmi, Timoteo and Donghyun.

I've never followed any Korean survival shows before so I don't have any comparisons, but what I like about The Unit is that it seems to have minimal evil editing and mainly focuses on the stories of personal struggles and camaraderie. Just like that boxing ring segment they had, there might be slight conflicts during the show but in the end everything is resolved and they all make up with a hug lol. And all those group members/ex-members/label mates coming to support at the finals was so heartwarming.

It's easy to say so and so doesn't deserve it or should not have grabbed a spot in top 9, I've said those things too, but right now I just want to pat all the contestant in the back for their hard work. For some of them this might be a change of fate, for some it might be the end of a road, and they've all worked so hard for months. I hope they find peace and happiness in whatever they do next.

I'm looking forward to what the debuting units will bring. I heard they'll be managed directly by KBS so I expect them to be all over their shows, music, variety, you name it. I know they're eliminated but my wild wish is to see Lee Geon, JeUp and Rockhyun on Immortal Songs. I also have potential new bias groups to pay attention to in the future: IM, Melody Day, IMFACT, Matilda, BIGSTAR, B.I.G, etc.

I'm so glad the editing got so much better in the later episodes.. but overall the tone has been really kind and they never showed too much unnecessary conflict. so many new friendships and so SO much love amongst both Units, that's the best thing that came out of this show ♥

mess, this is going to be a performance team for sure... happy for Daewon and Feeldog! was hoping for Jeup and/or Rockhyun or Lee Geon for vocals.. Jeup needs to escape Star Empire, Rockhyun at least has 100% to go back to, but poor Lee Geon. and ouch @ Timo going from #1 to not making the final lineup, but I guess Hotshot fans had to split their votes..

Unit G
I fucking cried so hard I couldn't see through my tears when Jiwon made it at #6 T___T and then they showed Spica and I just...omg. it's one day after their sixth anniversary, I really couldn't ask for more ♥ (my fave part was when Jiwon addressed Spica and started with "Even though Narae isn't here..." LMAO guilt tripping her former housemate on national television)

also cried @ Woohee, she really needs this now that Dalshabet is no more. she did well throughout the show and I'm so happy she got recognition!

and of course... devastated that Euna didn't make it AGAIN. fuck, what does she have to do to find success??? #10??? fuck that hurts. watching her hug Suji and hearing Suji say she thought she'd be with Euna.. and The Ark kids showing up to support both of them.. T_T tbh I'd swap ZN out for Euna, at least this way we get a Laboum comeback and Euna/Suji.

overall I'm pretty satisfied with Unit G's lineup, ready to stan and hoping they won't have a shitty name and only do cutesy concepts bc they have versatile members who can do a lot more!!

(and I'm glad I discovered ACEMAX-RED's Bomi through The Unit, she's such a gem and I still wish she had more screentime)

edit: Semmi was another discovery, her rise to #2 was so deserved!! she embodied the spirit of The Unit but I'm not surprised she didn't make it.. I think she benefited from the extra votes system pre-final, but she doesn't have that many stans who'd use their precious single vote on her for the final..

i'm so so happy for yoonjo and yebin but i wish somyi and euna had made it. i also like most of the other unit g winners. maybe fantagio will let yoonjo rejoin hello venus... i can dream right?

edit: oh and the biggest disappointment of all is marco, holy fuck, i'm pretty behind on watching the show but at the point i left off it really looked like he wouldn't make it. damn it.
the only boy i really cared about was dongmyung so that's double disappointing. and wtf when did timoteo fall from #1? he was up there for such a long time (though i didn't really see the appeal) i can't believe he fell that far

much like everyone else i'm confused, mad and disappointed re: Semmi and Euna Kim not making it. i want to be happy for some of the girls who made it instead, but they either didn't really stand out to me (Yoonjo, ZN), or i actually disliked what they brought to the table (Hyunjoo). i'm ready for them to prove me wrong though, especially if KBS somehow manages to get Hyunjoo some proper vocal training instead of that baby voice thing her agency forced on her.

as far as Unit B goes: Marco? really????? he did well throughout his raps for the finale performances but every time someone from Unit B started rapping i found myself wishing it was Kanto instead lmao. i'm incredibly ready for Chan to shine with his vocals and everyone else to shine with their choreo though. especially Hansol, watching him i often felt like he was holding back, still, in a way.

anyhow: best part of the episode was obviously all the support and the love. i cried during the parent segment and yelled when Spica showed up. also all the love and support and friendships between groups are the best things about this entire show.

i'm curious though: what agency are the groups going to be under?

I’m beyond happy my bb Jun made it. Boy has so much talent (singing, raping -it’s decent idol rapping-, dance, acting, and variety), good personality, and tall and handsome to boot. So happy and hope this brings shine to him and Ukiss whom he’s so loyal to.

I’m pretty disappointed by the rest. I’m happy for Chan and Eunjii but I rage that Marco...fucking Marco made it but bbs JeUp, Rockhyun, Dongmyeong, Donghyun, Hanyul, Lee Geon, goddamed vocals did not. Seriously how did he remain but Kanto was voted out way early. I would keep 4 (Jun, Chan, Eunjii, and Kijoong) and drop and replace all these other dancers (okay Feeldog can stay) cause they ain’t that talented (seriously there are plenty who can dance as good and also sing) or they have zero personality (looking at you HanSeol).

For the ladies, I’m so sad Semmi didn’t make it and also Euna Kim. Other than that, wasn’t really interested in them and the either sexy or much too cutesy cute shit the show only gave them.

All in all I want my bb Jun to get some shine (I want them on Knowing Brothers and they will be invited to Hapoy Together right KBS) then pls pls do another drama. He was good in Social Club and held his own among my 3 queens. I need more acting Jun.

yeah what kills me about them having so many dancers is that a) a group of nothing but good dancers will just look like a group of okay dancers once they're all forced to dance in unison lol no one shines when everyone is good, and b) 99% of idol groups dance rly rly rly well nowadays so it's just... not that captivating anymore lol. And in the end, most of them are just... aight. Really only Feeldog is rly rly good, the rest are just above average.

I got 7/9 for my Unit G top 9 so I can't be that mad but as many others I wish Euna and Semmi could have made it too.

Unit B is a disaster though like wtf is Korea on how do u fail to pick at least 2 vocalists? I hadn't really paid attention to Chan so I was happily surprised during his performance but Rockhyun, Lee Geon and Dongmyung :C Wasted talenttttttttt! I'm happy for Daewon and Euijin but I'm not gonna be following Unit B's future activities.....

This show legit turned me against ppl I like and in favor of ppl I didn't like lmaooo. When the show started I was all "rah rah, jun, jun!" because I was a diehard KISSME for years but uhhh goddamn he can NOT rap (like his verse on Butterfly was literally an insult to the song) and so many ppl w/ actual talent got z e r o shine (HI KANTO!!!!!) so it's just frustrating. I still like him as like, a dude, but he is the definition of overhyped. We could've had Kanto but we got fucking MARCO and JUN lmao.

Then the whole show I was also annoyed by the Timoteo love considering he too is completely mediocre... but then watching him fall so far because Hotshot vote got split and went in favor of visuals makes me want to root for him lmaooo. Like I can't imagine how painful that type of false hope must be. No one expects to go from top 5 every week to not making it, and unlike Jonghyun after P101, I don't think he really has a group to go back to tbh.

I love Chan and he deserves it but I kinda hate that he made it in because this means little or even NO comebacks for ACE and their position as a rookie group is too tenuous for that imo, especially considering this show was only moderately popular in the first place. The final group isn't going to be Wanna One popular so it's kind of a huge sacrifice and could put ACE in the position to be permanent nugus. They're in that position of "vaguely hyped nugu group" where they need to be churning out comebacks as often as possible to stay on people's minds and not being able to do that may seal their fate.

Everyone in the top 4 was overhyped imho but the top 2 were deserving. If I had it my way the final 9 would have been:

vocals: JeUp, Rockhyun, (anyone else cause they had many good vocals)

Dance: Euniji, Feeldog, (anyone cause many good above average dancers but not Tomateo cause I didn't get the hype and no like him)

Rap: Kanto, Jun, (anyone. Idols aren't the best rappers and you only need someone serviceable so long as you got Kanto)

Eh what we got us goid enough. It's like you said the show lacks popularity for them to go P01 roughy. Also they not a real group and all will return to theirs groups hopefully with more shine, popularity, following, and second bat at fame.

Late train but I am so upset with the results. I know live voting was necessary but wow it really screwed over so many people. I see a lot of people hating on Hyunjoo but lets be real, at least she was in top 9 for the majority of the show unlike ZN. I am happy for everyone who made it because there isn't anyone who doesn't deserve to be there, but I am just so annoyed at these results.

Chan was one of my favs too but I was amazed he made it over others. Euna not making it is weird since she was top 9 the whole time. Same with Tomatillo. Idk this whole line up is weird. Really glad that Jun, Feeldog, Daewon and Kijung made it! Also happy for NCA!

How is it possible that Semmi didn't make it? Did her fans fall asleep during the voting process??? Maybe Matilda fans tried to split votes between her and Dana which is a bad idea. Also not having Jeup is a waste. I hope Imfact and Matilda get come backs soon with GOOD music because their songs so far have been shit honestly.

All in all, I don't think I will be checking for either Unit B or G once they debut. Maybe watch some clips of Kijung here and there but thats it :(
