Someone broke into our house last Monday. Thankfully, he didn’t take anything (even though he tried to steal our bikes), but my family’s been pretty shaken up all week long.

We think our dogs and my aunt waking up and turning on a light spooked him, and that this was also an opportunistic break in, but it sucks feeling unsafe in your own home. We checked every nook and cranny of the place and we don’t know how the hell he got in; he freaking left through the front door.

I feel you. My house was burgled while I was on holiday in Germany. For a good few years or so it made me really anxious when I was alone in a house, just the thought of someone going through your things - I live in a 5th floor flat now so it's not as bad, but whenever I visit my parents house or anything, sudden noise at night still sometimes shakes me up.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I know just how scary this is. Thankfully guy didn't get in on us, but he was at the front door and I stupidly went to it and scared him off. Maybe he picked the lock? If you can't find where he got in, he either picked the lock or was a real pro to not leave a trace. Hopefully now that he knows there are dogs he won't come back. (sometimes that's a deterrent, because they def wouldn't want to get a bite or mauled.)

Those door jambs can also go into some windows, sliding glass mostly I think. Maybe try putting things in the way of places you wouldn't necessarily be going to that someone could slip into. idk maybe I sound paranoid of it but I'd rather be proactive and do silly things like this for my own peace of mind.

We are having a massive snow storm today, and I just told my boss I cant come in (he texted last night to let me know it might be better if I don't) but I still feel guilty. It's not super bad yet, but its supposed to get way worse within the next hour or so and all day. I'm a strong, independant woman! I shouldnt be nervous! but irl I'm a big old chicken.

Dumbfoundead is coming to where I live, and I'm so tempted to buy a ticket, its so cheap and NO ONE comes here. But idk who he is coming with, and I'm not a huge fan of his. But I feel like I need to just get the tickets? HALP OMONA

My tattoo appointment was today! When the artist re-drew the picture she left out some of the small details to avoid smudging etc in the long run, but the image itself was kept as it was. It wasn't particularly painful, it felt more like a combination of scratching and tickling (which was worse for me because I'm a very ticklish person and would rather be in actual pain than feel radiating tickling all over my body.) It also wasn't all that expensive, mainly because it's quite small and didn't take a long time (I sat in the chair for 2 hours minus one pee break).
I already love it, can't wait for it to heal/the redness to go down.

I'm trying to make myself use LJ more these days because I'm sick to death of Facebook and the hate that goes along with it. I figured a FFA post was a pretty good one to jump in on to say "hi" and dip my toe back into the water in. :)

I missed most of the opening ceremony this morning because I didn't get home from work until after 7:30a EST (night shift nurse...whee) but I appreciate the live stream links posted here that let me catch the fireworks and lighting of the flame before bed.

I tried out Coursera recently to see how I'd fair with going back to college. It was spectacularly terrible.I ended up dropping both courses. Thankfully I didn't buy into it.

Has anyone tried Coursera before? I'm thinking about trying Lynda, but I'm not sure.

This all just reminds me of how much time I wasted on online classes and trying to finish at an online college. I mean, I'm sure it works for some people. But I'm far more motivated by an actual classroom. I've been thinking finishing my bachelors recently because idk if disability will pan out for me or if I can wait much longer to see if I can get it. And I know I won't get much of a job if I don't get a degree. Or get a degree and continue on in my education. I only mention masters because I like death and dying because I've considered changing careers. But yeah I def don't have enough of loan amount left, and can't get financial aid anymore, to finish at a brick and mortar college.

tbh I hate everything right now, and my big mood is fuck Tr*mp.

the only course i ever finished on coursera was some high school level maths thing that only repeated things i already learned...a decade ago.
all the ones i started that contained any new info i dropped.
tbh i wouldn't particularly feel bad about it, just look up the stats on how many people actually finish online courses (not many). i mean it's nice if you have the extraordinary willpower to push yourself to it, but still.

lynda...idk i only watched some shorter courses on that one. it was nice in terms of technical content, but coursera (and edx) seemed a liiittle bit more motivating environments.

i... also want to finish my degree, but... i'm left with a) having to work day and night while studying, and even then i might run out of money after a few terms or b) having to work a little bit (probably no work at all), and go back to my home country where i normally want to kill myself about 2 hrs after getting off the plane. i'll end up picking at random i think.

I was so into this until I read sour cream and chive sauce. But this is a really good idea for a pizza. I'd go with a cheddar cheese sauce and other cheeses on top.

There's a lot of things I can only find at my Walmart and a lot of things I just can't find. I still want White Castle frozen chicken sandwiches (I think they stopped making them since no one carried them) and for some different kinds of Celestial Tea (my stores only ever have the fruit tea sampler, the chamomile, and the more expensive sleepy time ones).

Honestly, I've got it pretty good. I'm in a small town and on a Peds unit so our nights are better than a lot of places. Yes, kids are "sicker at night" like our mamas always told us (at least around here) but it's not like a crazy ER thank goodness! :) In the winter/flu season/rsv season etc we stay busy overall but it's never as bad as an ER with the coming and going, imho. That's something I would hate, and I give total props to the ones who do it! :)
