On February 9, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency confirmed that Jung Suk Won was arrested due to drug charges at Incheon Airport last night (February 8 KST). Reports say that Jung Suk Won used Philopon, a form of methamphetamine, in Australia. Thus, he was arrested upon his return from Australia to Korea.

His agency C-JeS Entertainment issued an official statement addressing the matter. The statement is as below:

Hello, this is C-JeS Entertainment.

We will discuss the situation regarding the reports about Jung Suk Won getting arrested for drug charges.

Jung Suk Won is currently being investigated by the police for drug usage.

“He is being investigated on whether he used drugs while drinking with a friend last week during his vacation in Australia.

As the investigation is ongoing, we ask that you refrain from writing speculative reports about something that has not been confirmed yet.

We will address the situation following the investigation and the police announcement.”

A source from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency revealed that Jung Suk Won’s liver was tested and the results showed that he tested positive for drug use. Jung Suk Won reportedly admitted to parts of the drug charges. Following the investigation on February 8, he was held at a detention room at the police station. On February 9, he was investigated on how he obtained the Philophon, how many times he used it, complicity with any other person, and more.

ETA: Baek Ji-Young's agency, Music Works Entertainment, has announced that they will be proceeding with her upcoming concert amidst news that her husband Jung Suk Won has been arrested and is being investigated on drug charges. She is scheduled to hold her “Welcome-Baek” concert on February 10 at the Olympic Hall in Seoul’s Olympic Park.

there was a soompi article posted abt it

so he was apparently tested positive for using a form of methamphetamine after coming back from a trip to australia. meth is probably illegal there too but the reason he was arrested in korea is because korean law applies to korean citizens wherever they're at in the world. so it's also illegal for koreans to gamble outside of korea, for example.

uhm that's the case for many many countries, they just mostly don't care.
i have it written in small letters on the last page of my passport that i have to follow both the rules of my host country, and my home country's (random eu...) rules. i think if a lot of you look at your passport, it might contain some similar text.
so in theory my fellow citizens wouldn't be allowed to eg. smoke weed when visiting amsterdam. it's just nobody ever enforces this.

the us tends to reach with their tax stuff, though, on slightly similar grounds...

That’s interesting! All along I thought that criminal laws being territorial was the default for most countries so I was surprised about the news

it's a mesh, so territory also matters. so eg. if there is a conflict between home law and local law, the local takes priority when abroad...
anyway, most countries are lazy to enforce this

I don't know that much about meth but from what I've seen, it doesn't seem like a light drug of choice... are there light meth users? If he has a problem I hope he can be afforded help and not just labelled junkie trash and thrown in jail.

Do they randomly drug test people at the airport or did someone rat him out or?

I mean bad on him for doing meth but good gods at Korea’s terrible law where you get arrested in country for something that didn’t even occurr there.

the law itself not unique to korea at all, it's just they seem to have the resources to actually enforce it...

Meth is a horrible drug. I really hope he gets help if he's addicted (which he most likely is because meth isn't a recreational drug lbr) instead of being labeled "terrible and a junkie".
