I liked the song, although it was a bit weirdly structured in some places. Generally, I'd wish she'd stick to more mature concepts like she did with KML and Camo, these kind of bright concepts don't fit with her anymore imo.

did you watch her keyword show? she talked a lot about the direction she wanted to go with this comeback and while I understand her reasons, it's still sad to see her trying to fit whatever she thinks is the IT thing of the moment for idol music.

Sounds interesting though. It's a shame if she feels she needs to do what other idols are doing to still fit in... She's a great artist and I would have loved to see her transition out of the idol niche into a more widely accepted artist the past few years, but it sadly hasn't happened (yet?). Her Japanese career has deteriorated too.

yeah, she said something like wanting a killing part for dance and song. and she talked about artistic x mainstream. tbh after seeing her talking about this comeback, I was a bit confused because i couldn't exactly tell if her desire to go "more mainstream" was just for a business point or just her looking for some excitement over her own career? both are totally reasonable imo - she has every right to see her career as just work and go with the trend flow - but I couldn't tell which one is her exactly lol maybe there's a bit of both, idk.

the thing for me is that she (and sm) could still do something mainstream and better than this one. it's not a matter of boa not fitting a certain ""youth"" image, but more like SM and her team not picking the right song imo.

I like some parts of the song, but there are others that I'm not so into. I know in her mini show with key, she mentioned something about either doing music that was mainstream or artistic. I'm guessing this is the more mainstream approach? I'm super curious about her upcoming album.

So... let's get the bad out of the way right quick... BoA's hair is tragic in every shot except for the ones where her hair is down. TRAGIC.

The beat of this song is REALLY good, though, and the vocals are catchy! I don't know if it's going to have her intended effect of being a "hook" song as she discussed during her and Key's docuseries thingy, but the song itself is quality.

Oh man, like everyone else, I'm also underwhelmed. I even made sure to listen with good speakers bc I've learned over time that SM does a lot of production that requires a good audio output. But this song is very naked in that it has no real drumline. It has a solid hook and melody with the Spanish guitar, but the empty space underneath, that even the bass syn can't fill leaves it hanging. Also, I feel like the chorus was choppy, especially when it moved from her singing to her saying "nega dola". I know she wanted that to be the point but, it wasn't a high point. :(

Also, those Minnie mouse buns... Unnie no. The space buns in the dance cuts are cute, but those Minnie mouse ears were ridiculous.

and also about sm production. I will never forget when I went to music bank here and when shinee's lucifer came in, it really took the music to another level listening with that huge audio system. it gave a new dimension to the chorus if you let me be a bit exaggerated lol

I think that this problem is really that 1) laptop speakers suck. In general, most people don't have great speaker set ups. 2) SM likes to really emphasize bass, which if you have crap speakers, is lost, 3) for some reason, the MV on youtube don't have the same kind of sound quality compared to an MP3 and it might be how they encode the sound, so half of the time, you barely hear the song and then when you hear it live or with a better set up, you're dumbfounded bc you don't even recognize what's going on.

Like I get that (from her show) she really wanted to put a song that would be a catchy hook for people to listen to, but the problem is that, the trends that I'm seeing heavily rely on a hook layered over drum-bass. And w/o that, the song actually sounds a little ~dated? Like someone mentioned it sounding like a Japanese B-side, and I immediately thought of stuff that came out like 10 years ago that this reminded me of.

LOL okay thank god because I liked this a lot. The song was chill, and the video felt brand new from her. Also it was cute because she looked like she was having fun whereas all her other videos in the past have been so SERIOUS bam bam i'm a hardcore dancer etc. This was fun.

her vocals were really dry on this one which makes the song feel lifeless. her vocals were stale until she startee going higher right before nega dola which makes it sound a bit weird. i just wish her vocals would give us some variations to bring the song to life.

It’s not bad, but it’s just “there” for me. Listening to what she says in Keyword and then seeing this....it doesn’t match up. I don’t see how that vision matches this one. So I’m assuming this is a pre-release.

The Bantu knots and mimicry of Afro puffs are gonna be a hard pass from me. The stylists could have simply not done that.
