Every week I search for this day in the past charts and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, let’s see who was on top for the 2nd week of January, 2009. The top three have already been posted, so we’ll check out some live stages.



#3 TVXQ “Mirotic”
Along with SS501, this was the era of “why bother with shirts?”. Also pointy hair. The fanchants during the chorus are my most favorite thing about this song, I hear them in my head whenever I hear the song lol. They sound so good!

#2 Seungri “Strong Baby”
Forever will “crack crack crack crack” to this. So much fun! God, he was such a little kid when this came out! He grew into this song, his solo stage of this during the MADE Tour was so great.

#1 Girls’ Generation “Gee”
AHHHHHHHHH MY ANGEL! AND MY GIRLS! MY SUNSHINE! LET’S GO! I’ve always loved this song, which actually surprises me because for a time it was EVERYWHERE…but I never got tired of it. And I’m still not tired of it! I hear this song and I will bust out the choreography with all the Sunny-esque cuteness I can muster up.

Not really a fan of the song or the MV, but K.Will always does well on the charts.

#8 Kim Kyung Rok featuring Baby J “We Are Strangers Now”
I could only find a reupload of the MV, but the quality was so bad, so here’s a live performance. This song from VOS’ Kim Kyung Rok and Baby J from Jewelry did well on the charts. The song sounds really familiar to me, but just his part.

Mirotic's popularity will always confuse me.

Seeing Gee live the first time converted me from someone who looked at Girls Generation with a heavy dose of indifference to being like "this girls... SO CUTE."

I don't think Mirotic would've been as popular if another group released it. I think part of its popularity had to do with the fact that it was DBSK's first Korean comeback in 2 years.

Omg these are among the first kpop songs I ever heard lmao. Mirotic is definitively the first one, Strong Baby might be the second or third. And Gee the first one I tried in karaoke (and it's actually so hard to sing??). The throwback TT

Mirotic was such a great era. They all looked so good and the concept was great. Also, wtf Jae was only 23 then?! They definitely looked more mature for their age (compared to the idols now that are 23...) and like men (hope this doesn't offend anyone but you know what I mean!!).

Hahah. Changmin does look young (ish) but def like you said, still more mature than most of the 21 year old idols now. Plus, I think he has a baby face in general, so yeah.

Jaejoong is soooooooooooo good looking. He's gorgeous. Like just so ridiculously good looking. I've been watching old videos the past two days and I'm STILL like "HOW IS HE SO GOOD LOOKING?" He needs to eat a burger or two now, though. And give me new music. Kai is good looking, too, but he's been looking a bit off. I think he looked better in the earlier years??

Kai is definitely good looking and such a good dancer. Yeahh...he definitely did something to his nose or something. Such a shame he thought it had to do that! SHINee from Key, too!

I just watched the video and oh myyyyyyyyy. He needs to bring that look/era back. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Another user in this thread was like "Who needs shirts when there's Jaejoong's chest?" and I def concur. Esp during that era. ;)

OP, coincidentally, I've been on DBSK kick the past two days! Been watching old performance vids and such. Was so surprised to see them featured in this post!

Man, I hope I get to see (any one of) them perform one day...
