for those unaware: shinee is slated to hold a small series of dome concerts in february. the concerts were set up in a way to visibly celebrate their past five tours and albums in japan, and possibly serve as their final dome concerts before onew's enlistment. shinee world japan, their japanese fan club, released a similar statement late on the 23rd and this seemed to be the follow up by sm. speculation is that the statement was released because registration for fan club lottery ticketing was meant to come to a close yesterday.

Date: 2017-12-24 09:34 pm (UTC)"i can't fathom there's anything less conducive to a healthy grieving period than being thrust into the military". that's where my head is. kibum and minho can hold off on their enlisting for another three years if they really want to, and taemin for even longer, but jinki can't hold off for longer than another year and i don't think he's in the safest head space right now to jump right into enlistment, not with some of the horror stories i've heard in regards to treatment there (especially regarding mental health). i'm not even talking solely in relation to jonghyun's passing either but everything he's went through with his scandal and how netizens are still treating him (and have started up again in the last day or so) idk. a part of me almost wants him to take the time he has before enlisting to stay out of the spotlight, wind down, relax.

Date: 2017-12-24 09:40 pm (UTC)Like I understand not brushing issues under the table and not condoning anything that happened in the scandal, but what kind of damage are people trying to cause? On the heels of an event that shows us, more than anything, that we know nothing about the idols we love / the illnesses they deal with and simultaneously that they do read everything we say and take it to heart?

Date: 2017-12-24 09:46 pm (UTC)it's just tasteless and disgusting. the scandal and jonghyun's passing do not ... overlap at all so the fact that some people are trying to use it as a way to guilt jinki even further is awful.

Date: 2017-12-24 09:54 pm (UTC)tbqh when my friend texted me on Monday morning telling me one of SHINee had died of suicide, my mind immediately went to Onew, given the scandal + his history of depression + netizens' commentary. I can't actually believe those people, people who want members to kill themselves, are shawols or even decent human beings in any way, shape or form. And you're absolutely right that these two events have nothing to do with each other. I don't think SM is prohibiting their idols from getting mental health assistance, and in fact think that Jonghyun showed us pretty concrete evidence that it was actively being made accessible to them (although unfortunately his specific doctor was a fucking quack). I hope they ramp that up one step further and insist that Onew gets some + any counseling he might need re: substance abuse, especially in the wake of this, and that he's armed with the tools he needs to ignore any idiots voicing their shit opinions anonymously from some PC Bang somewhere.

Date: 2017-12-24 09:51 pm (UTC)I was definitely one of the people who wanted him to sit out the next comeback and go to the military, but attacking him on social media has nothing to do with respect to the victim of the incident, they're just hiding behind their screen names being malicious.

Date: 2017-12-24 10:01 pm (UTC)I am and always have been an Onew stan, but I also was critical of him in regards to that scandal, and I think there is a productive way to voice disagreement with people's actions that, like you said, respect the victim of the incident and put the onus on the individual who committed the wrongdoing (accidentally or otherwise) to be the agent of change.
Whatever it is that these trolls are trying to achieve isn't borne of trying to change misogyny in Korea, or trying to encourage Onew into some kind of substance abuse program. It's pure maliciousness that comes from something really disgusting that's more deep seeded than dislike of a particular idol.
