Usually, being the most searched celebrity on a search engine shows the fame that a certain person has. Well 2009 wasn't any different for these headline hoggers.

The most searched artists on Korean search engine and media portal Nate.com in 2009 was the new girl group 2NE1. They debuted with their single "Fire" in May of this year. So in over half a year, they became the most searched artists on Nate. What a big achievement considering the fact that 2PM and SNSD came in second and third respectively.

Who was the most searched actor? It was no other than Flower Boy Lee Min Ho! It was a great year for the star of "Boys Over Flower" as he became a CF magnet and definitely has been a headline hogger.

On another popular search engine Naver.com, they categorized their popular searches by gender.

The males searched Girls Generation the most and coming in second was UEE of After School. On the female's side, they searched for the drama "Boys Over Flower" the most and then followed by Big Bang, SNSD, and 2PM.

I dunno about this. It seems like it's more about growing popularity. I mean, DBSK is first for me and I don't search stuff about them because I have all the relevant sites bookmarked. I def. searched more about Big Bang because I know less about them, but that doesn't mean I like them more.

Nice and curious to see Big Bang hanging in there -as a group- on the Naver female searches instead of only G-Dragon (or Top).

I'm genuinely curious about 2PM ranking #2 on artists in Nate and #4 for female users in Naver (even above DBSK) when I've seen quite a few comments about how they aren't that popular in South Korea. As far as I know Nate and Naver search results are more accurate on reflecting what's currently popular there than Google, so can someone with actual knowledge of Korean fandom elaborate on this to me?

I feel that they're popular. They don't have big, loyal fanbases like SNSD or DBSK but I think that people know them. They're the only group that achieved 2 triple crowns in Inkigayo this year. Also, the Jaebum thing happened.

basically what asteri5k said. they're getting very popular. so like, dbsk obviously has a much bigger fanbase, but actually, dbsk are not necessarily relevant to the average korean person, so they don't rank high in searches like this (there's a distinction between being popular vs. having a large fanbase). but 2pm are fairly well-known to young people, so they have a lot of popularity.

I think 2pm is a rising star and the Jay thing probably contributed to this jump in popularity on the search engines
