Yoo Seung-ho plays an ultra-desirable man who literally has everything, from money to power to good looks. But after a particularly heartbreaking incident, he developed a “human allergy” condition that makes it hard for him for him to physically face people. As a result, he’s been living in seclusion ever since, and whenever he has to go out, he shields himself with gloves, masks, and canes to keep the people away. When he meets Aji-3, a world-class female android, he begins falling for it—but unbeknownst to him, she’s been human all along. Chae Soo-bin plays both the robot Aji-3 and Jo Ji-ah, a human woman whose features were the model for Aji-3 because her ex-boyfriend, played by Eom Ki-joon, created it in her likeness.

Jo Ji-ah was described as a warm entrepreneur with an extraordinarily high ability to empathize with others, whereas Aji-3 was described as a premier AI machine with a strong curiosity about humans programmed into it. Eom Ki-joon plays an engineering genius professor who is extremely book smart, but completely out of his element when it comes to relationships and romance. Due to an unavoidable circumstance, Jo Ji-ah ends up impersonating Aji-3 as a part-time job.

The teaser begins with a dramatic introduction of Yoo Seung-ho’s character, and a security team is told to evacuate the entire premise so that he may enter. His motto in life is that “There needs to be distance between people.” When he first meets Chae Soo-bin, he reacts with extreme fear, leaving her in the dust. Then when he’s asked if he’s lonely, he scoffs and denies it. But when he first meets Aji-3, the robot made in Chae Soo-bin’s likeness, he can’t deny his curiosity in this world-class AI machine.

But the packaged product that arrives at his house is Chae Soo-bin the human, who, due to unknown circumstances, agrees to do this three-hour assignment for her ex, Eom Ki-joon. She greets Yoo Seung-ho with a monotone robotic tone, but when she opens her eyes and realizes it’s the man who threw her off in the streets, she jumps back screaming for her mother.

Yoo Seung-ho calls Eom Ki-joon, thinking there might be a malfunction with his product. Watching from his control room back at the lab, Eom Ki-joon half-weeps as he predicts failure. Then the teaser closes out with Yoo Seung-ho smiling his trademark puppy grin, remarking that he’s looking forward to training this robot.

In the teaser, James Bond music plays in the background as Aji-3 asks for her first command. Eom Ki-joon, heading his formidable team of robot researchers, starts off with a light command: today’s weather, but Yoo Seung-ho quickly switches her to friend mode. Her demeanor completely changes from politely utilitarian to adorably sincere as she gives the weather report.

Eom Ki-joon changes her back to user mode again, and they go back and forth changing Aji-3’s mode until she steams up in frustration, and both sides are taken aback by her very human outburst, confusing and frightening everyone. A cute little robot rolls on the screen displaying an error message.

I'm Not A Robot premieres Wednesday, December 6 on MBC.
