TWICE-2PM-EXO-BTS

On December 4, Japan’s leading CD retailer Tower Records revealed the list of the chain’s best-selling albums of the year.

For K-pop, two separate rankings were announced. One is for Japanese albums released by K-pop groups, while the other is for Korean albums released by K-pop groups.

On the ranking for Japanese K-pop albums, TWICE took the top spot with their Japanese debut “best-of” album “#TWICE.” Their labelmates 2PM also showed strength on the chart through their solo albums with Junho at No. 2, Taecyeon at No. 4, and Wooyoung at No. 5 and 8.

No. 3 is PENTAGON, No. 6 is VIXX, No. 7 is SHINee, No. 9 is Boyfriend, and No. 10 is SHINee’s Taemin.

Tower-Records

EXO topped the chart for imported K-pop albums with “The War,” while BTS took No. 2 and 3 with “Love Yourself: Her” and “You Never Walk Alone.”

No. 4 is SNUPER, No. 5 is ASTRO, No. 6 is Wanna One, No. 7 is Boyfriend, No. 8 is UP10TION, and No. 9 and 10 are TWICE.

Tower-Records-1

Congratulations to all the artists on their success in Japan!

Yes for TWICE being on both charts! I’m not sure if any other girl groups promoted in Japan but I’m glad there’s at least a bit of representation.

Twice did so good. This year's number one exercise hit "One More Time" was also breaking records.

wow it feels insane to see Snuper right after EXO and BTS on ANY chart but I'm s(n)uper happy for them, even though I'm sure the number difference between #3 and #4 must be huge if they're so high lol.

I'm lowkey surprised by this tbh cuz I feel like their whole image / style would go over well in Japan.

Always good to see VIXX up there <3 Can't wait to go back to the Shibuya shop in a couple of weeks, they've been tweeting about all the kpop displays and preorders happening it's too much for me haha. I'm thinking of picking up the BTS season's greetings there...

al1 sold over 64k copies on oricon, they should be #3. i guess their just fans don't buy from tower records? i don't know how this stuff works. they're immensely popular in japan without an official debut, though.

edit: wait, exo's the war only sold about 50k on oricon, so al1 should be #2 for overall sales. this list is kinda irrelevant lol.

i'm sorry for all the edits TT

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS for my queens reigning in Japan. Some of the happiest times I had there back in july was when I found stuff related to them in places like Tower Records, Tokyo Tower, Shibuya, stores playing their japanese TT mv and even highschool girls covering their songs. But I had such bad luck when I came back one week before their High touch event in Osaka T_T

Seventeen was doing promotions with the retailer HMV when I was there - iirc only albums bought from them came with bonus stuff or hi touch lottery, so I'd imagine the bulk of their album sales in Japan were from there and not Tower.

Twice!!! on both lists!!! nice.
Also I'm surprised and pleased to see Snuper's name somewhere :') And Pantagon! especially with a Japanese member in the group, it must mean a lot to them

BlackPink debuted but YG dropped the ball and did no promo besides a commercial. Red Velvet ,I think, debuts in Japan next year. I know they have a concert so it'd be dumb of SM not to release at least a mini or something. So that may be another contender for rep next year.

I agree. When I went in January, it was the last week to purchase cds for the Going 17 fansigns. There was no Going 17 albums available at any of the hmv stores (I checked online at that time). I actually had to buy my copies at tower record shibuya. I was also able to get their jp callender which is exclusive to hmv as well.
