The 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) has officially announced this year’s nominees!

On November 3, the 2021 MAMA revealed its nominations for the upcoming award ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on December 11 at 6 p.m. KST.

Several changes have been made to the criteria for determining the awards this year. Unlike in previous years, fan votes will not be one of the criteria for determining the Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year awards. However, the Worldwide Icon of the Year and Worldwide Fans’ Choice Top 10 awards will be determined entirely through fan votes, with no other criteria.

All the Korean members of K-pop boy group ONF are set to begin their compulsory military service in December, according to their management company WM Entertainment, Wednesday.

"Except for Japanese member U, the five Koreans members ― Hyojin, E-Tion, J-Us, Wyatt and MK ― will join the Army in December," WM said in a statement.

MK will be the first to enter boot camp Dec. 21, with J-Us and Wyatt following him, Dec. 27. Hyojin and E-Tion will enlist Dec. 28.

WM added that it would not disclose the place and time of their enlistment due to COVID-19 concerns.

In the K-pop scene, it is rare to see bandmates joining the military at the same time. In most cases, when one member starts his duty, the other members continue their careers in a bid to stay in the limelight and, once he returns, they take turns. ONF, however, made a different choice.

Obsessive fans of K-pop and those who hold a deep interest in another particular area tend to be happier than others, according to a recent study.

In a study introduced by the Korea Food Forum, a team led by professor Park Hyun-ju of the College of Nursing at Kangwon National University analyzed the mental health of college students.

The research team categorized college students into two groups: "otaku" and "non-otaku." "Otaku" is a Japanese term for those who are obsessively interested in certain things. A closely related term in Korea is "deokhu" and the activities of such people are called "deokjil." These people study or collect anything related with their obsession, which could be anything including celebrities, comics, animations, figurines, science fiction and games.

We may be getting a Wanna One reunion soon!

On November 3, JTBC News reported that several industry sources had revealed that Wanna One is planning to reunite ahead of the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards. One source said, “Talks of a reunion always take place ahead of the award ceremony, but this year’s discussions are more positive and enthusiastic.” A different source predicted, “Since I.O.I reunited last May, Wanna One’s reunion may be possible now.”

In response to the report, CJ ENM revealed, “We are having positive discussions about various plans including the Mnet Asian Music Awards, a concert, and an album involving all of the Wanna One members.”
