Small bit of info: Chun Doo-hwan led the coup in December 1979 and had been the de facto leader of South Korea before his presidency in 1980 until his stepping down in 1988. He was also sentenced to death because of his role in the Gwangju Uprising/Gwangju Massacre (with students calling him "The Butcher of Gwangju"), before he was pardoned in 1996 by Kim Young-dam. In 2017, the Gwangju District Court issued an injunction banning the distribution of his memoir because of the distortions of the Gwangju Uprising in the book.
