So was it THAAD all along responsible for Lay’s absence or is the money in China better for SME if he’s a solo act?

[identity profile] shuumi-miss.livejournal.com 2017-11-27 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
To me it's the money (and I have my doubts that Lay still wants to promote as Exo *runs away*). Jackson never had problems to promote both in China as a solo act and in korea/rest of the world as part of GOT7. But I don't know if it has something to do with the fact that he is from Hong Kong and not from continental China.

so we're gonna act like jackson has the same impact as yixing in china??? Yixing is even tied with the government

I feel like Lay is about to quit too but Jackson isn’t promoting in Japan anymore and that makes it suspect that it’s more than just about his health.

Here's an article from Soompi

#EXO (https://twitter.com/hashtag/EXO?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) Reveals Their Future Goal As A Grouphttps://t.co/s9NTID5wRC (https://t.co/s9NTID5wRC) pic.twitter.com/0B0vZg0VTc (https://t.co/0B0vZg0VTc)

Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I don't think the group will survive once they have to enlist. I see SM pushing a solo career for Baekhyun. DO will go into acting full time. And idek about the rest of them. I could see Xiumin getting out of the business all together.

[identity profile] normanikordei.livejournal.com 2017-11-26 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
idk because they seem stronger than ever imo even with lay not being there. this year with their extended break in the first half and then the fun they had promoting the war and now with the tour, I'm seeing how so many of them have become closer with members they seemed distant from etc., the way they talk about each other with respect to each of their qualities and things they admire, and their support of each other in each of their individual endeavors. sometimes they even get mushy which is really sweet. like chanyeol has this really emotional solo on this tour about the other members and he couldn't even get through it today bc he was so choked up.

idk if I'm optimistic enough to say that EVERYONE will stay with SM, but I think we are going to get exo in some form into their 30s like super junior.

[identity profile] mewgical.livejournal.com 2017-11-27 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah idk I guess I'm just a pessimist, especially seeing what they did to SNDS after their 10 anniversary. But maybe SM will treat them slightly better? idk I don't trust SM at all.

Chanyeol solo is amazing. I feel bad for Kai because he seems to still kinda be beating himself up for his mess up on the first night. He's so damn hard on himself. Xiumin too. I know in one of his ments (I think first night) he was saying Baek was so much better than him without having to practice as hard as him. He's always putting himself down. I guess that's why I feel he'll leave.

tbh I wish some of the companies would let people go peacfully after a contract and maybe plan for revivals of the band. Like, let them go live their life for five years or so and come back for a album and tour or just a greatest of tour.

[identity profile] normanikordei.livejournal.com 2017-11-27 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
ya I think we are all still kinda shook by snsd because seriously ONLY SM can fuck up so much the members of their super successful groups want to leave.

kai is breaking my heart lol he's way too hard on himself! I thought I was a perfectionist until I see what he puts himself through. he was up until 4am practicing too. xiumin def has a back up plan what with his phd lmao but I think he really enjoys being a performer from what I can see. idk about idol life but I think he will stick around in some capacity.

ia with you but I guess they're like if you're not making money for us then you'll get the boot and then we'll make your lives hell after we kick you out.

[identity profile] mewgical.livejournal.com 2017-11-27 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I hope one day of the girls is salty enough to spill all the tea.

I know Xiumin practiced longer (idk by how much) because Baek left him at 4am. Like god, they are going to break themselves. But Kai is way harder on himself publicly, if that makes sense. I remember how upset he got when he missed his first solo part on the comeback stage for Power. He was really upset. I'm sure Xiumin kicks himself but Kai gets really publicly and very emotional in the moment. Thankfully they'll have a month break, maybe? I'm guessing not a full month because they'll probably promote for the Christmas album and who knows if they'll be doing a MV or anything in advance for the Japanese album.

IA about his PhD be a backup plan. I just don't think he may stay with music. I thought he would because his Bachelors is in some field of music. But he supposedly changed it up with his Masters. idk what to though. And idek what he's getting his PhD in.

It's stupid they do that. It would be such a money grab to do a final comeback or comeback tour. They could easily sell tickets for 2-3x what they charge now if they made it for a few exclusive dates.

lol i know, but its not even in a shady way! i'm sure if lay was there he'd be all up in the loving too, but its a fact that they've all become even tighter this year.

If you want to go off on the Dynamics and why you think they're stronger than ever, I am so here for that. I love discussion of group Dynamics.... And I'm not good at analyzing myself.

And I'm off Tuesday so I can emerse that day.

I will genuinely be surprised if I see Lay promote with EXO again. THAAD may have taken baby steps towards resolving but it's not there yet.

Maybe they can pull a CL and bring him out for a year-end stage

[identity profile] daynr.livejournal.com 2017-11-27 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Why do you think Jackson seems to easily move between this and not Lay?

[identity profile] torontok.livejournal.com 2017-11-27 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Couple reasons.
One while Hong Kong is considered Chinese territory and Jackson has to refer to himself as Hong-Kong Chinese in interviews, he isn;t given the same level of scrutiny or patriotic expectation as a born mainland native is, like Lay.

Two, he's not as relevant there. He's gaining fans but Lay has far more followers and the like. On rap of china they were mentioning Jackson's music background and completely omitted GOT7 so it seems that he's also trying to downplay his Kpop association a little bit.

Three Lay was already in hot water when THAAD began because he'd appeared in ads with exo for LOTTE (LOTTE corp gave the land for the thaad missile system and were boycotted in China as a result).Lay is also affiliated with the CCP as their youth ambassador so he can't even hint at going against the official government stance.

[identity profile] daynr.livejournal.com 2017-11-29 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I missed the Lotte point; #3 is a big one.

[identity profile] kwonsoonyoung.livejournal.com 2017-11-27 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
i hope their next comeback will be 9 :(

[identity profile] sparkb.livejournal.com 2017-11-27 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
I wish theyre stay as 9 and remember that the time when theyre as a group is the time theyre shine the brightest. Like, theres a number of seniors that said the same thing just listen to them! Lol

I believe SM will get them the upper hand in the next renewal contract. But the one after that will be rough

[identity profile] gathyou.livejournal.com 2017-11-27 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
Awww. I'm always pessimistic in those cases (Yixing's Chinese career is too lucrative for SM to slow it down by getting him back to Korea and the 8 Korean member have a good group dynamic right now but who knows, I can see Yixing wanting this to happen out of loyalty) but it's still sweet to mention him. Not surprising coming for Suho too, those two were cute together
