[EDITORIAL] N.O.M: Helping or Hindering Acceptance of Homosexuality in South Korea?



‘Nature of Man’ or N.O.M as they are more commonly known are a 4 member, all male K-Pop group that debuted with their first single ‘A Guys’ back in August of this year. When considering the plethora of K-Pop rookies coming out seemingly every month, it might not surprise you if you missed their promotional period. It might surprise you when you learn more about them though, because their concept is very unusual – often dubbed ‘3rd sexuality’, but perhaps better known to you and I as homosexuality.

Even in the 21st century, homosexuality is not accepted within many societies and, much like the issue of racism, homophobia is and probably always will be present in some form or another within this world. South Korea’s overall attitude towards homosexuality is not very open and accepting, with only one actor – Hong Suk Chun – coming out openly as gay. Now, I am not trying to draw binary opposites by saying: “All of South Korea is homophobic and the UK is not!”, that would be ridiculous! However, speaking on a very general level of course, South Korea has quite a long way to go in terms on acceptance of both male and female homosexuality and Suk Chun’s apparent struggles since coming out is testament of this.

SHINee's Onew Suffers Neck Injury

In the middle of promotions for their latest album and title track "Everybody", SHINee's leader Onew recently suffered a neck injury. Due to this, several adjustments will be made to SHINee's activities this season to accommodate Onew's injury.

Onew attained the injury due to extreme dance routines for "Everybody". SM Entertainment said, "There are a lot of moves where you have to swing your arms around, and it seems that it has become too strenuous for his neck. However, it's not a serious injury."

As to Onew's participation during performances, SM Entertainment assured fans that Onew will still appear on stage in upcoming shows. "Onew injured his neck, making it difficult for him to participate in his group's performances for the time being. In the upcoming stages, he will only take part in singing and a new performance will be shown for 'Everybody'."

Although Onew still has difficulties moving his neck, he still carried on with his original schedule, which included an appearance in a music program and the October 29 episode of "The Show". Starting with the October 30 broadcast of "Show Champion", SHINee will stage a different dance routine for "Everybody", and Shawols will see Onew mainly doing majority of the singing parts for the performance.

Yuri and Seohyun Interview for billboard Korea + Yuri's Cosmopolitan Interview

The photography studio suddenly buzzed. The hearts of passersby gathered in the street, and of course, those of the onsite staff’s were filled with excitement. When the leaves on the trees were dyed brown, we met with Girls’ Generation members Yuri and Seohyun.

Girls’ Generation returned wearing skinny jeans. With the announced Japanese original single, “GALAXY SUPERNOVA”, in September, the ladies displayed beautiful legs wearing colorful skinny jeans.

Among the nine, Yuri and Seohyun are the members who have recently become the most pretty. When you fall in love, you become pretty? Taking off the jeans, the fashionable duo in miniskirts and hot pants with Burberry coats are madly in love. Of course, we’re not talking about their real stories. Through a movie or drama respectively where they fall in love, we leaned our ears for Yuri and Seohyun’s talk.

JYP to debut their new boygroup with 7 members in January 2014

JYP is planning to debut one of their boygroups at the beginning of next year. This is a compilation of all news that surfaced recently.

"Meanwhile, JYP will also be debuting a new boy group of seven members next year. The members had already appeared on WIN and competed against the YG trainees.They are also from different countries, such as America, Canada, and Hong Kong, as they were chosen through a global audition. While they have been working on their new music for some time now, they have yet to decide on their group's name."

In another article, for the first time JJ project has been mentioned. It is said that JJ Project MIGHT be a part of this new group, but it's not confirmed yet. Also, they haven't chosen all members yet, and everything will be finalized in December. The only confirmed information is the number of members - seven. JYP reps revealed "Currently, the JJ Project members are diligently practicing.."
