Date: 2017-11-09 06:20 pm (UTC)Before we get into anything else- DID ANYONE ELSE SCREAM AT THE PREVIEW OF EPISODE 11 BECAUSE I SURE AS HELL DID. THAT KISS!!!!!!!!!!!1
Ahem
Anyways, wow I'm impressed at how solid the writing for this show has stayed. I'm glad Boknam isn't a rapist but he's still annoying and inappropriate. Glad he's now been reduced to Jiho's confidante I don't wanna see more of him.
The handholding scenes with Sehee had me rolling but man, the conversation about one love in a lifetime was so goddamn sad. I have a feleing his previous marriage in 2004/2005 (although idt he married the girl for real, they never registered it) has to do with his animosity towards his father, the timelines match up to what he said about his dad throwing him out 12 years ago.
Kitty is the true second lead of this drama, I died at Jiho describing Sehee's routine with the cat as her newlywed life.
I really like CEO Ma's character now tbh, he's a sweetie. The crying scene especially was so cute. Also nice at them flipping the wide-eyed kiss scene trope around with him and Suji
Horang...every episode I feel like I take one step forward and four steps backwards with liking her. The red coat/black coat analogy for marriage was really really well done and I understand why she wants the role of a wife so much. But then after the proposal she's gone off the deep end again with jeopardizing her job and planning a wedding they can't afford. This is going to crash and burn, Wonseok clearly is only doing this because he thinks it'll make her happy but it's a bandaid solution.Their relationship has more issues than Voge
(On that note, I am very much here for Wonseok-Bomi.Lol at her using Boknam's pickup line).

Date: 2017-11-09 06:31 pm (UTC)i'm so sad when they talk about one love when we know sehee is probably talking about the one in his box =-=
yeah i can understand horang but i don't think their relationship is healthy.

Date: 2017-11-09 06:38 pm (UTC)The one love talk was so sad and I hope they realize that even if you're lucky to find love even once in your life, that doesn't mean you can't find love more than once.

Date: 2017-11-09 06:35 pm (UTC)Kitty is a true star!! And yes that was so hilarious.
I think Won Seok and Ho Rang really need to be able to sit down and have a conversation. It's not that I think Won Seok was lying when he said he wanted to prove his worth before he proposed to her and realized now that it wasn't necessary... but I don't think he's being entirely honest. There's the responsibility aspect that he mentioned before that is definitely still a part of it and they need to talk about it before getting married.

Date: 2017-11-09 06:31 pm (UTC)I both like and dislike the BokName resolution... I think they explained a lot of his "stalker" behavior well but they just kind of erased his inappropriate actions and asked us to forget about them. Like, the way he was trying to get close to Ji Ho (like tying up her hair, dragging her around) was really annoying and I dislike that we are supposed to just forget about it now. I know he was probably trying to induce a reaction because of the whole contract thing, but that doesn't make it okay.
Oh god... Ho rang and Won Seok. I totally get where Ho Rang is coming from but it really shows how society pushes people into these huge life changes that they are just not ready for. Despite Won Seok's new job they can't afford a big wedding and HR... really needs to recognize that.
Sidenote: was anyone else like "ouch too real" when Won Seok received those messages from his former coworkers.
I cannot BELIEVE how into Su Ji and Sang gu I am but yeah episode 9 sealed it. I love how this isn't a subversion for comedy's sake? Like Sang gu can cry and confess and Su Ji can be the one to kiss him and it's wonderful because of how earnest it is.
I LOVED Ji Ho in episode 10 and I like how she's trying to show Se Hee that emotional labor is actually a thing in a way that makes a lot of sense.

Date: 2017-11-09 06:57 pm (UTC)Like that didn't sit well with me because
a. DID HE NOT HEAR HER
b. I found it a bit insulting and inconsiderate of him
The Boknam bit... wtf? Are we supposed to ignore he stalked them? like literally? just because he didn't assaulted her didn't change the fact that he is #problematic.
Horang... I understand where she's coming from but how can she be so selfish and stupid?
I have yet to see her so somethign for them as a couple. To me it looks like he's trying and giving up a lot but it's not reciprocated and that's not really how couple work. Maybe she did things for him/them before but it's not canon, I didn't see any of it.
Overall I'm inn love with the drama but I find it quite sad at times
But I still love it nonetheless

Date: 2017-11-10 11:44 am (UTC)Se Hee's actions are not necessarily 'loaded' (? not sure about this word here) but with Ji Ho being a drama writer and all some of his action might come off as caring on a man/woman and not landlord/tenant level. They're not really friends so I can see how the 'hand holding' and 'rescuing' bits can make her misunderstand things.
Which is why I find it very interesting when she (in off voice) was talking about how communication is key and how expressing feeling is important.

Date: 2017-11-09 09:06 pm (UTC)I'm actually realizing that there might be a translation issue here. The dramabeans recap today made it sound like Ji Ho was talking metaphorically in the third person.
"Disappointed, Ji-ho suddenly asks him if thatâs the only way he can interpret it, and says that it could also be about caring. Rather than animalistic desires, she explains how the behavior could come out of a desire to please the person one likes."
I also took a look at the soompi forums and they say the same thing, that she was saying it more metaphorically. So maybe it's a translation error.

Date: 2017-11-09 08:50 pm (UTC)I think the biggest thing was Bo Mi sexually harassing Won Seok on his first day on the job. Asking if he had a girlfriend was eh, not just leaving it there was a big no. I liked her!
Also no to Bok Nam being brushed off as okay because he's not the stalker in the news. His pushy behavior was not okay.
No to Ji Ho lying about her happy married life and then feeling happy to be included in the married lady club with the annoying women there. a) They're a pile of snakes and b) You're supposed to be getting a divorce in two years and then they'll ditch you, girl.
Ho Rang is just one big pile of no. I foresee her making a giant mess at work and then discovering that Won Seok hadn't thought about whether she'd keep working or not, because they still haven't figured out this communication business.
Whatever's going on with CEO Ma and Soo Ji is.....idek.
Ji Ho foisting her feelings on Se Hee when he's drawn a line, and she knows he doesn't reciprocate bugs me. Sure, his logic for drawing that line is gone, but slow down, girl. Yikes.
The only thing that made me really happy was her saying that monetary compensation for that in-law nightmare situation wasn't enough. That was some emotional labor she did.
At least Se Hee at the in laws' looks like it'll be hilarious, and I'm finally close to finishing this afghan I've been crocheting for the past two years with all these dramas I'm watching lately. So I'm not dropping the show, but I might be giving it a warning.

Date: 2017-11-09 09:02 pm (UTC)But Ji Ho actively pointed out how backwards her own feelings were? She was like "I'm a bit ashamed but even I felt good to fit in." Like, it's not as if the drama is portraying wanting to fit in with these women as a good thing, it's pointing out how screwed up it is.
I also don't think Ji Ho is really foisting her feelings on Se Hee, like she never even purposefully/properly confesses* It's just her emotions easily show all over her face. Though, I do think Ji Ho has an issue with taking all of Se Hee's actions at face value. Everytime he does something seemingly romantic she has a really hard time not getting caught up and it takes a reminder of what the situation actually is to snap her back to reality. But, at the same time
*I think there might be a translation error with the subs bc some translations say she was speaking like "the desire could come from caring" and not literally saying "I did this because I care about you." So idk.
no subject
Date: 2017-11-09 09:28 pm (UTC)Saying "the desire could come from caring" (I think that was the translation Viki had) is still heavily implying that she cares in a way that the landlord-tenant relationship he thinks they have doesn't really make room for, since the context is that they're talking about her actual feelings and actions.

Date: 2017-11-09 10:16 pm (UTC)This was kind of a downer week for me with this show. I didn't not enjoy it but I definitely didn't enjoy it as much as I have previous weeks. The retconning of Bok Nam's pushiness doesn't sit great with me, I hate Ho Rang and Won Seok as a couple, but worst of all, Ji Ho is starting to go a little Ho Rang with Se Hee and it's making me scared I'm gonna end up disliking the main relationship. This is the second week in a row Ji Ho has completely disregarded/ been oblivious to Se Hee's obvious discomfort and the second time she has reacted by being purposefully manipulative. And honestly, it doesn't even seem fair to say that Se Hee slighted her when all he's done is reinforce the boundaries of their original agreement. I know she can't help herself falling for him and but she should at least try to pay a little fucking lip service to the concept she signed up for so she doesn't get pissed off every time Se Hee does not immediately reciprocate her feelings. He was a robot when you agreed to fake marry him, what did you expect? Hopefully next week will see Ji Ho growing up a little and Se Hee softening some cos I don't need two Ho Rang/Won Seok couples.

Date: 2017-11-10 03:57 am (UTC)I agree that it made her character unlikable esp how she knew damn well what she signed up for when she entered this fake marriage. But for her to keep flaunting her feeling unwantedly to a clearly uninterested guy and somehow 'punish' him for it is just not a good look.
But all this mix made it such a fun and interesting show. Here we deal with a strong lead girl and she knows how to defense herself. So, despite I did not like this revenge aspect of her, I find her character interesting and it made for a good drama. But like you, I hope she stops this and let Se Hee falls for her naturally. Because aside from how good Ji Ho is at being a tenant, in Se Hee's eyes, the romance hasnt even start yet as he did not see her as a romantic partner like she did to him. I hope the writer did not forget this aspect and let us see why Se Hee falls for her in the coming episodes.

Date: 2017-11-10 03:36 am (UTC)I'm not really a fan of Lee Minki and I never got his appeal/looks but his role as Se Hee made me warm up to him. He is very excellent in playing the robot-lifeless guy and it is so freaking hilarious esp the part where he is trying to avoid the motorcycle in last week's episode. It's so funny on how many times he turns and did the impossible just because how petty he is as a person. XD
And I like Ji Ho since I dont find her annoying and her conflict and wanting to fall in love is just sad in a way since she is probably fall for Se Hee just because he is nice to her just like how the previous co-worker guy being nice to her that she ended up liking him for 3 years. But how the writer wrote how good she is at defense is just kind of awesome. It really hit Se Hee right to his face each and everytime and that is why Se Hee also see it as her good point as well.
Now the in-law plot will continue in the coming episodes, I guess the later plot will be dealing with Se Hee's ex-fiancee coming back to the picture and Ji Ho going back to writing. And I wish the end will not deal with the contract marriage comes to light (aka other kdramas) since it will be very embarrassing to both Se Hee and Ji Ho.

Date: 2017-11-10 11:10 am (UTC)My favourite moment in these eps was actually Se Hee's father feeding the cats, haha. We've come to see him as an uncaring father (because we only hear Se Hee's perspective), but the fact that he loves cats, and this is a characteristic they share... it's a small thing, but hints at more depth to his character/their relationship. I thought this was an excellent example of the subtlety+poignancy of the first few eps that I feel the show's lost a bit of in these two weeks.
