Oh My Girl member JinE has left the group following a long period of struggles with her health.
JinE has been on hiatus from Oh My Girl’s promotions since last August as she focuses on treatment for anorexia nervosa.
On October 30, Oh My Girl’s agency WM Entertainment announced that her exclusive contract with the company has now been canceled and she has left the group. Oh My Girl will now be a seven-member group.
Read the full statement:
“Hello. This is WM Entertainment.
“First of all, we sincerely thank the fans who treasure and love Oh My Girl.
“Oh My Girl member JinE has halted all activities for more than a year due to her health issues.
“During that time, the other members and our agency have been considering her recovery as the most important thing and awaiting her improvement.
“However, after long discussion, we have decided to respect JinE’s opinion, who not only has physical issues but also wants to find a new path.
“We inform you that the company’s exclusive contract with JinE has been canceled.
“We ask you to keep showing love and support to JinE, who is going forward toward a new dream, and Oh My Girl who will now be active as seven members."

Not surprising. I'm glad she's choosing her own health but I'm still sad.

Date: 2017-10-30 04:16 pm (UTC)I'm surprised there aren't more cases like this. I know we always talk about how idols starve themselves but I wonder how true that can actually be when they're active.
Anyway, the system is super brutal. I can't imagine the pressure they're under.

Date: 2017-10-30 04:53 pm (UTC)I kind of saw this coming but I'm still sad about it. I'm happy she's putting her health first because I imagine the industry would be incredibly taxing on both her physical and mental well-being if she were to return. Oh My Girl won't be the same without her though. :(

She really had it tough :( which is why I'm sad but relieved at the same time, I don't know how she could have made a full recovery while being still active as an idol :(

Date: 2017-10-30 07:39 pm (UTC)It definitively would have been worse. Also I might be hoping too much but WM mentioning her "new dream" is making me thinking that health is not the only thing here, and that she's also moving on with her life. I4m glad she's able to do it without the company holding her back

Date: 2017-10-30 06:52 pm (UTC)health comes first and, iirc, i think she's the only idol i've heard of (with an ed) who left her company and i'm happy for her but it's really bittersweet... i hope she achieves whatever her next dream is & that she's always doing well 💝

Date: 2017-10-30 07:37 pm (UTC)It sounds like she was given the space to really think about coming back to the group or not so I'm positive that she made the best choice for herself. Also it might be wishful thinking, but WM mentioning her next dream makes me hopeful that she's moving on, even if it's sad and she'll be missed!

Date: 2017-10-30 07:17 pm (UTC)i'm sad but at the same time i'm relieved she chose her own health over the group .... let's admit idol life in general isnt worthy
i prefer to know she quit idol life to live happily away from all the pressure from this awful industry (that would obviously trigger her anorexia every single day) than knowing omg became a successful top-tier group while one of their members was living a nightmare like EDs
wm was classy when they chose to always tell fans the real reasons behind her break and now her departure , they managed JinE situation smoothly which is (saddly) still very rare in kpop

Date: 2017-10-30 11:15 pm (UTC)it was probably not an easy decision considering how long she trained and that it was her dream, but she was strong and brave to think about her well being before anything. that's really good.
I also hope that, in some way, her story helps other idols going through a hard time with the same thing. not necessarily leave the industry, but look for help or, at least, talk about their struggle with someone who can properly help them.
