Kakao Taxi App Now Completely Redesigned With English

Popular ride sharing app Kakao Taxi has undergone an update, making the app more accessible for a wider range of users- including English speaking users.

When you update the app, you’ll notice a range of new and improved functions. Notably, the app now has an English language feature. As well as introducing an English language feature, the App has included a ‘Driver’, ‘Navi’ and ‘Parking’ feature for Kakao registered users.

Hailing a taxi with Kakao Taxi is simple: the app automatically detects your pick up location or you can enter it manually, input your destination, your type of desired vehicle and lastly, your method of payment.

One big difference with the app update is the new restriction on payment method. Similar to American ride sharing app Uber, Kakao Taxi now takes payment solely via credit card details input into the app. Note: Kakao Taxi only accepts major Korean credit cards.*

Kakao Taxi is free to download on the App Store and Google Play.

*when you request a taxi on the main page you can un-check "Credit Card" and pay with cash when you get out of the taxi. If you want to use credit card it has to be a Korean card.

If you're in or coming to Korea, this is a great app to use if you plan on staying out late. The subway and buses stop running between 11:30 PM and 12:30 Am and don't start again until 5:30 AM. If you need to get home Kakao Taxi is great. It will find your current location, but you need to know some Korean to read the map and find where you want to go. If you have any questions I can try to answer them.

I've only used the taxi once here in Korea but I heard it can be difficult to even get a ride as a foreigner? And it also depends on where you live? I live quite far from the city "center" or where the fun nightlife is and my taxi driver seemed annoyed with how far he had to go to drop me off..

I've used taxis without the app and I'm pretty sure I've been profiled and passed once or twice. Maybe because I'm a white female it doesn't happen as often to me as it does to other foreigners, Where you live factors in too. I work in one city, but live in another. It doesn't matter that my work and apartment are 15 minutes away from each other, just the fact that it's a different city means that taxis don't want to drive there. I don't have to worry about finding the right taxi when I use the app or hassling with taxi drivers.

i live in a small city but i live pretty far out from the going out areas. they never seem really annoyed to take me back cuz they get more money out of it tbh.

it def depends on where you live tho. ive taken 2 taxis in seoul and both drivers were terrible assholes. one of them made me and my mom get out in the BUSHES outside seoul station with our bags ugh

During my visit to Korea usually we take taxis from the hotel, the staff helped us in telling them where to go, but when we were returning to the hotel, we had to give them the name in Korean, we had a hard time on the first day because we couldn’t tell them the right name until we found one who spoke a little English to understand us, the rest were nice
Also I booked a taxi online, they have English speaking drivers, can’t remember the name

Hi! Is this some kind of Grab or Uber based in SK, or is it just a taxi that connects to mobile app?

It's the regular taxis, but the drivers have a phone with their own version of the app and they get a notification when there's someone nearby that wants to be picked up. There are no regular "civilians" that the app calls. Only regular taxi drivers.

i think i'm lucky in my city in that the taxi drivers are generally nice (or at least not assholes) and they're always easy to get. i've never used kakao taxi myself cuz its a little intimidating with all the korean so this is good for me!
idk if i'll use it cuz i can usually get a taxi on the street super easily or i just call one to my apartment but i'm still excited.
