Omona original - 5 girl group songs about pretty people problems

Girl group topics tends to hover around the same things - wanting a guy, moving on from a guy, having good times - that in the wrong hands can be derivative but one of my favorite categories is sugary sweet confection songs about personal beauty & the problems it causes. Here are a few examples that I can remember of how different girl groups tackled the same harsh subject manner.




Option 1 - Bemoaning your beauty: So Hot - Wonder Girls (2007)

Like many 2nd wave kpop staples WG yet again paved the way for this type of vanity song. So hot finds the girls dancing in a jewelry box and recalling the experiences of being either hated on or adored. While it causes hardship and leads to some minor or major complications the girls breeze through it the best they can, being the troopers that they are.

Option 2 - Disgust with your beauty: Pretty Pretty - Ladies Code (2013)

After making a splash with their debut single - the dark and cool 'Bad Girl' - Ladies' Code came back bright & beautiful to proclaim both their beauty & their seeming disgust with it as it leads to fixation & gifts from boys and men of all ages. By video's end they've decided that enough was enough and de-glam themselves. During the single's release former WG leader Sunye tweeted support, saying how it reminded her of her idol days/WG and watching 'Pretty Pretty' again it's easy to see why.

Option 3 - Apologizing for your beauty: Orange Caramel - So Sorry (2014)

While catallena took center stage - with it's color-filled take on admiring another woman's beauty - it was mini album song 'So Sorry' where OC decided to speak on their own. With heavy hearts they apologize to someone that felt under their spell and insist over & over that there was never an intention to lead someone on and that their natural charm simply causes such instances. Oh OC, who could possibly stay mad at you??

Option 4 - Adversiting your beauty: Gugudan - A Girl Like Me (2017)

As seen in prior examples being beautiful can cause problems of too many thinking more of their relationship with you than its true nature but what happens when the opposite is true? Well then Gugudan has just the song for you! Directed at a would-be suitor the ladies of Gugudan implore them to recognize their beauty and insist that they realize what a golden opportunity it is to peak the group's interest & make a move before someone else does or they move on. An argument might be made that they aren't as special as they think but not by me and especially not with a BOP like this!

Option 5 - Sharing your beauty secrets: WJSN - Babyface (2017)

Being pretty doesn't just mean adoration and lots of dating but also people inquiring as to how and why you are so beautiful. Questions like this can be obnoxious but if you badger ask WJSN long enough they'll tell you. Or well, they'd like to but - as babyface simply laments - the problem is that their beauty is simply a force of nature and how dare you suggest otherwise! They have naturally pink lips and skin and a glow about them that simply comes from within. Sorry!

I know of/have heard all these songs except So Sorry and yet I never co-related any of them with each other via theme so this was an enlightening post.

Great post OP :) I really need more songs with girls bragging and being confident.

I don't have pretty people problems, but I used to have a problem where I looked too approachable that a lot of strangers would come up to me to ask for directions, donations or try convert me to their religion. I realized that I've been socialized to maintain a smiling face in public spaces and that my face at rest actually looks pissed off lol So I smile less now, but I'm happier because less people approach me.

i've actually noticed before that many gg songs are about this subject, and it's usually a hit or miss for me.
if it's done in a tongue-in-cheek way i don't mind songs like this, like if it's ott on purpose which i feel wg's so hot is. however, a lot of times it's just eye-roll-inducing imo

i love these kinds of songs tbh! i love confident concepts! I feel like Gashina falls into this category as well. Why are you leaving a pretty woman like me? Are you sure you aren't going crazy?

Pretty Pretty is my favourite on the list but I had So Sorry on repeat when it first came out.
