MONSTA X will be returning to the music scene!
On September 28, Starship Entertainment stated, “MONSTA X is getting ready to make a comeback in early November. They’re recording their new album right now, but we haven’t decided on a specific release date yet.”
Meanwhile, MONSTA X recently won the Bonsang award at the 1st Soribada Best K-Music Awards, and member Jooheon celebrated their fan club MONBEBEs’ second “anniversary” with a special happy birthday song.
What kind of concept would you like to see them try for their upcoming comeback?

Date: 2017-09-28 02:58 pm (UTC)i heard wjsn was going to make a comeback in november and i think starship pushed theirs back, since twice'll be promoting then. i also heard mx was gonna comeback in late oct—if they came back in late oct, wjsn could've had a mid-to-late nov comeback, and the end of mx's promotions usually sync up with wjsn's comeback, if u feel me. but mx's timing might suck in an attempt to grow their k-fandom. if a lineup is stacked, more ppl must watch the weekly music shows, etc... idk, i think it works pretty well for them since they haven't stagnated

Date: 2017-09-29 01:58 am (UTC)wjsn doesn't need it as much as mx does, imo. i actually did math for this reply to compare and their sales are pretty close—using the wiki stats for albums sold, wjsn sold ~300 more, with a shorter promo period and i think less fansigns—and, on top of that, wjsn usually charts for longer than mx and higher than them too. esp. considering mx only charted for a few hrs in the 90s with “beautiful.” they've got a pretty sizable fandom for a group out of the big three and have at least 3 members who are getting pushed in korea (dayoung and cheng xiao are frequent variety guests; bona acts; yeonjung was in i.o.i). most of mx's momentum, i'd wager, is internationally based. they used to chart a lot better in 2015 (in korea) and their digital peak was with rush
also, tbh, i'm super excited that they'll be promoting with seventeen + wanna one. bring on this faves' interaction, boyz! sungwoon can take a pic with kihyun and wonho and maybe wannables'll check them out. i do really think it's a way of introducing them, more into the relevant public eye, and i'm suuuper sorry for the mini essay on wjsn's sales, lol

I'm sure SS has its own statisticians/marketers yadda yadda so they aren't doing shit blindly (even tho ngl it feels like it sometimes lmao). MX's support is largely international and SS's acutely aware of that but they do need a stronger domestic footing. It'd be interesting to see what kind of sound they'll go for this round of promos, I don't even know what would be 'public friendly' anymore.
I'm....not sure I want an influx of rabid wanna one stans to happen but MX could use their money ig?? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Date: 2017-09-29 04:50 pm (UTC)np! i stan both of them and i feel like mbbs (on twitter) don't give them any credit and i'm like... wyd? generally i think starship's problem with their groups is that since sistar hit it big, the way they did, they think a minimal promotion strategy will work and it's infuriating. boyfriend were sistar's brother group and that didn't help them, not to mention that all their idol groups have more niche concepts. starship barely mediaplays that the mx members write / compose / et al and that's mediaplay 101, which worked for the other 2015 rookies. i'd love a rock concept or a harder one (like their 2015 stuff) and i hope they drop the edm. i feel like “shine forever” was pretty trendy and that didn't work too well
more i want mx to see sungwoon again... they seem like cute friends, but the money thing would def be a plus. omg, yeah. i'm always here to field industry questions, i feel like i pay attn more to that sometimes

Date: 2017-09-29 06:31 pm (UTC)I think we've talked about this already but SS rly rly rly reminds me of TS in terms of (shitty) management down to the questionable timing, minimal promos and lack of mediaplay. I mean I get it, there's no golden recipe that'll guarantee a groups' success but at least...try to put your idols out there??? Sistar was the exception, you can't latch onto their formula and hope it works out again.
When it comes to MX's sound I feel like Edm -or at least a lot of its elements- is pretty recurrent through their discography and it's kinda their thing at this point. It also seems to be a type of sound both Jooheon and Wonho enjoy. I really like their recent stuff, their titles come off more mature?polished? to me. I go for their earlier stuff when I need to get pumped but ngl they feel idk almost juvenile (I'm still gonna be dropping it low to Trespass tho) I was sure Beautiful was going to be THAT song for them, but :|
Kpop, with the excection of BAP, has consistently disappointed me when it comes to the rock my level 25 emo heart desires, I gave up at this point
I'm always down for the kids to make more friends but deeply disturbed by the ferocity of the stans of groups that have a clear deadline. ((money is always good yeah))

Date: 2017-09-29 10:46 pm (UTC)we have have, tbh. i like their solos, too, but i don't pay attention to the majority of them. i wish seungwoo would sync up w/ mx again, or w/ sewoon. and jooyoung does more stuff on soundcloud than he does w/ starship x so! none of this is surprising but i like a lot of their acts + am constantly disappointed with the way everything goes down
that's true, but the edm breakdown during the chorus in “shine forever” was a waste, imo. i really love it but the chorus makes the song feel unfinished and i'm not into it, seems like such a rookie mistake. i'm also not the World's Biggest “All In” Stan™, tho, so maybe it's just i'm not into the team that did both of those singles. and i'm the opposite because i looove their old stuff and i love not-so-serious pop music. hype singles can be good songs, it just depends on how they're written (which i've heard ppl complain abt... i know a ton of musicians who write great party tunes, just 'cus your fave doesn't, you don't like hype songs? 👀). i really love the clan 2 + 2.5 but there's something about kpop that doesn't go for so fake-deep that i love. jooheon's stuff is also so good! but the jury is still in for wonho's compositions (i can't listen to “i'll be there” without thinking of mike will made it's tag and it ruins it)
nah, the industry isn't connected to my major at all. i'm education but i've been super into music since my sophomore yr (hs) and it's fun. and i never want to shut up abt it, clearly. tbh if u'd like to move this to another platform / lj pms, i'm totally for it
