FIESTAR’s Cao Lu reveals that she's poor just like the rest of us

On the August 18 broadcast of SBS’s “Baek Jong Won’s Food Truck,” FIESTAR’s Cao Lu revealed that she still has no income.

There is a system in which when an idol group debuts, the majority of their beginning income is dedicated towards settling any “balances” they have with the entertainment company. The members have a certain amount of debt that cover their training, production costs, wardrobe, and many other aspects of becoming an idol. Until they break even with their promotions, idols ultimately have no income.

Cao Lu said, “Truthfully speaking, there is nothing I know how to do besides be a singer. If I were to work for a company, I don’t even know how type or do anything. Being a celebrity is not stable. I wonder, ‘When the contract ends next year, what do I do?’ That’s why I thought that I should at least make a shop and prepare for the worst while promoting.”

She continued, “My income is 0 won. For six years, I have been working passionately for close to no money. Do you understand why I’m worrying about one to two years ahead? I really want to open up a shop. Next year, I will turn 32 years old, and I’m given 500,000 won (approximately $450) to live off of per month. I feel like I really need to do something.”

Cao Lu also objectively evaluated that her busy activities from last year will not last for a long time. She said, “There’s a big difference between opening a business for profits and opening a business to survive. If there are no schedules, I starve. Life and survival are different. I think I can passionately lead the business.”

Meanwhile, Cao Lu debuted with the girl group FIESTAR in 2012. Cao Lu was in the lime light in 2015 when she appeared as a guest on MBC’s “Radio Star.” She has appeared on “We Got Married,” “Uncontrollably Acting,” and “Video Star.”

and isn't she the most popular/most active one from the group who's on the most shows and stuff? that's terrifying that she's worked so hard and so long and yet she still has no income

the idol life is so scary. like she said if you don't know how to do anything else bc you've been just singing and dancing all your life that must be such a scary prospect when your contract runs out

sad thing is that most idols, when they go to university, choose to study something related to the entertainment industry. mostly acting or film stuff. why not study something business related so that you have a plan B if your idol career flops

I've always wondered this too. Like it's good that they're going to university but it's true: most of the time they just go for acting. Can't they get their company to train them on how to be an actor? Or is it more about having ~official credit~ by having an arts degree that deals with acting? And IA, just look at Minzy and Bom, their group was on top of the industry and one is a free agent and the other one flopped with their solo debut (no hate Blackjack here). But the idol industry is so unstable, so they should just go for something more useful like a business degree or maybe STEM or something.

i guess its because most of them get in through special treatment and the universities dont let them choose their major (acting majors arent really prestigious so i assume they want to prevent idols taking away spots from students in more prestigious majors that really want to study since idols are ghost students 99% of the time). or their agencies dont want them to study business related stuff (or law or medicine, idk) to keep them in the entertainment industry.

lmfao like.... i only make just over one million won a month, but half of that goes to rent and the rest literally just feeds me and pays bills. I would be totally happy living with 500,000 a month if my boss was paying my dorm and feeding and clothing me like cao lus is.... girl what do you need to even buy? your phone bill and....? stop going shopping in Apgujeong or quit and get a real job like you can learn a skill lmfao or get your lame bossy husband smh maybe this has me bitter lol but so many annoying girls i know wanna ~open a shop (this means be instagram famous and go shopping at Dongdaemun for ~stock)

This is me every time an idol complains about not being paid enough. Like some people work multiple part time jobs, study/or pay their students loans, pay rent, bills, and struggle to buy everyday necessities. Without having a company that gives them an allowance, or fans who buys them expensive gifts.
