Onew’s sexual harassment case to be forwarded to prosecution (TRIGGER WARNING)

On August 14, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station revealed that SHINee member Onew’s sexual harassment case will be passed over to the prosecution as a recommendation for indictment without detention.

According to the police, Onew is receiving a charge for touching a specific part of a woman’s body three times while intoxicated at a club in Gangnam on August 12 at around 7:10 a.m. KST. At the time of the incident, the woman (hereafter referred to as A) was dancing on a platform 30 centimeters (approximately 11.8 inches) from the ground, while Onew was sitting on a chair next to the platform.

After receiving the report from A’s acquaintance, the police arrested Onew and investigated him for five hours before releasing him. He said during the investigation that he does not remember as he was intoxicated. According to one witness, he seemed too intoxicated to stand properly and appeared to be grabbing her leg as support.

The site of the incident is a zone that is not captured by the CCTV (video surveillance). However, the police judged that the main witness account has credibility due to accurate descriptions of the surrounding movements which were captured on CCTV.

Previously, SM Entertainment revealed that A dropped the case because she acknowledged that the incident was something that could happen because of intoxication.

A police source commented, “The victim has received additional damage as her personal information has been revealed because of press coverage. She signed the form to drop charges due to SM’s request, but she testified that there is no change in the fact that the sexual harassment occurred.”

this sucks so much lol. i'm so pissed off, like ... i've been calling him out from the get go on this while trying to remain hopeful but i'm just getting more upset as time goes by. like i doubt it'll go to trial because everything is so messy but that doesn't change how fucked up is. like idc if it was an accident on his part - it was still harassment and she still felt uncomfortable by what happened. and i have my theories on what sm fucking did. i don't think they paid her off because she probably wouldn't be talking to media about it if they had but it's pretty evident that they used some sort of intimidation tactic on her.

and he really fucked things up for the other members, wow. (like this isn't even something they're involved in and they're still gonna have to deal with the repercussions of his fuck up.) and shawols who've supported shinee for so long. i've had an anxious stomachache for two days now and i love and support the other members and group but i'm so MAD. sorry if i don't sound coherent right now i'm just gdsogds 😩😩

also, before anyone says it, i wanna point out: most shawols are being critical of him too. most that i'm seeing are saying it's understandable that the case is getting sent in for trial consideration and they're concerned about the victim. so, if you're seeing people victim blaming it's in the international minority. even k-shawols were asking people to refrain from saying negative comments about the victim.

This whole thing is a mess. I know drinking is a common practice in Korea but it takes quite a bit to be barely able to walk at a club. I feel for Onew but at the barest minimum - even as an accident he did this to himself.
I can't imagine being the victim right now.

i'm worried about the victim reading that her personal information was made public to the press. she's right saying that it's sexual harassment despite his intoxication and i think it's good that this case is forwarded to prosecution, as this is something that probably happens a lot.

i was gonna mention it in my first response but didn't, but: one of the things that's been pissing me off the most since all of this broke (minus the obvious) is that stan twitter and #edgy stans are latching on to it for their own amusement. a majority of the people who've been making comments like that don't care about what happened - they're just saying that shit for both laughs and attention. plus these people need to learn how to separate rape and sexual harassment - it's all linked to rape culture but they should be calling him out for what it actually was.

like someone was using a fake account, with a bts related url, yesterday and they tweeted something like: "bts supports self love, shinee supports sexual assault." and i was so mad because it was obvious what they were doing.

Whether an act of assault is done deliberately or accidentally, the fact remains that there is a victim who has had their sense of safety and her body itself violated. What some people don't seem to realise is that you don't get to say sorry and everything be okay, when charges are brought forward it's because a criminal act has been committed... not because the intent behind said crime is always malicious or on purpose (that factors in to the level of punishment). I'm not personally caping for him, but that was just about the people who say "but he's a good person!" or "it was an accident!".

Horrified to hear that the victim's personal info was leaked, that is just another instance of violation that she's had to endure through this mess. I hope she has a steady and loving support system to help her through all of this.

i'm so glad that they're going for indictment, and that she is sticking to her guns saying that harassment occurred, whether or not he was too drunk to remember it. the intoxication defence doesn't mean you get away with committing a crime

This is so upsetting. Fuck him and fuck SM and fuck the "fans" who once again protect a man for being terrible. I love SHINee so much and this has honestly put everything in a negative light. I'm not blaming the other members at all but Onew is such an integral part of this group that even hearing his voice right now is something I don't want to do. Wow. SHINee members in general get a ton of leeway on here when they do fucked up shit - everyone pretends they never mocked Mexicans, everyone defended Taemin's cultural appropriation when they jumped down other idol's throats for less... I honestly can't believe people still honestly believe this was "accidental"... he groped the same woman three times in one night, and we know from earlier eye witness accounts that the first and second times were twenty minutes apart... a man does not grope the same woman three times on accident, especially in that time span lmao it just doesn't happen. It's astronomically unlikely to "accidentally" "stumble" and grab the same woman's body three times over the course of half an hour. Even SHE isn't buying it as an accident - she's basically saying "Alcohol may be what gave him the courage to sexually harass me, but it was still sexual harassment."

i'm gonna counter what i said in the original post again: this sucks. like i don't know how many people in here are actually shawols but, coming from the point of view of a really upset and disappointed fan, it's both stressful and upsetting. my first reply earlier was a little incoherent but i'm feeling more put together now. i'm not the type to ever say "i didn't think he'd ever" because we don't know celebrities, but i always wanted to expect more from him. shinee is still my favorite (boy) group and i fully support and love the other members (because they're not involved in this), but i'm really pissed off and hurt.

I'm a shawol and Onew has been my ultimate bias for some years so I know what you mean. Surprisingly, I don't feel so stressful or upset- probably because my expectations have been low AF especially when it comes to men so I'm disappointed but not surprised.
