Manhole premiered on KBS on Wednesday and Live Up To Your Name premieres Saturday on tvN. We're about to hit a lull with only two more dramas premiering this month:  Age of Youth 2 on the 25th and Hospital Ship on the 30th.

MBC’s Borg Mom (formerly known as Our Mom is Recharging), the variety-drama project that was previously announced a couple of months ago has already lined up its main cast and is gearing up to start filming soon. The show will be helmed by former We Got Married PD Sun Hye-yoon.

When the first reports for Borg Mom were released, the plot descriptors were quite vague and said that the show would center around a strange neighborhood and its quirky inhabitants. I’m not sure what I was expecting exactly, but it certainly wasn’t this: The show will follow a genius inventor who builds a humanoid robot that looks like his late wife. The titular ‘borg mom will enter the bizarre world of snooty, socialite mothers as the inventor’s son enters an upscale kindergarten, hilariously named Buckingham Nursery. Borg Mom will cast a critical eye on the ridiculous excess of the upper class and their obsession with status and wealth, while also bringing the comedy as our robot disrupts their airs mid-snipe.

Yang Dong-geun will play the inventor dad, who’s one of those aloof, but really warm-on-the-inside types.Park Han-byul will portray the titular cyborg mom, who has perfect looks and brains but absolutely no flexibility in character.

Borg Mom has also cast the cadre of high society wives and mothers that rule Buckingham Nursery, and their character names are cracking me up: Singer and musical actress Ivy will play the ice-cold queen bee of the Buckingham mothers, called Do Do-hye, which literally means “haughty.” Choi Yeo-jin’s character, Bu Ti-na, or “upscale feel” in Korean, is a show-off who needs to add English to every sentence in order to feel satisfied. Hwang Bora will portray a former girl group member who’s now a social media addict. Her name is Gu-seol Suzy, which translates to a hilarious “gossiping Suzy.” This group of mothers will be the subject of envy and admiration from Yoo Gwi-nam, played by SNL veteran Jung Yi-rang, who is desperate to join the club.

Also joining the cast is Choi Jung-won, who will play Yang Dong-geun’s trusted friend and assistant, and Kwon Hyun-bin, who participated in the second season of idol reality show Produce 101. Kwon will make his acting debut as a teacher at Buckingham Nursery, who is also the son of the kindergarten’s principal. He’s described as free-minded and full of hip-hop swagger as a result of having grown up abroad.

Borg Mom doesn’t have a premiere date nor a set episode count yet, but filming is scheduled to begin at the end of the month, so we can probably expect to see it on the airwaves sometime later this year. We’re going to see several dramas later this year with robots as the main leads (I’m Not a Robot and Are You Human Too?), so hopefully, Borg Mom manages to stand out from the pack. Let the not-quite-human hijinks ensue!

Great news! Lee Soo-yeon, the scriptwriter for recently ended Secret Forest, is already preparing for her next drama, which is due out sometime next year. She’ll be making a genre and station jump for the new project, which will be a medical show for JTBC.

It’s hard to believe that legal thriller Forest of Secrets was Lee Soo-yeon’s debut drama, since it’s so well-written and plotted out. It’s definitely one of those shows that has that trifecta of great acting, writing, and directing, so it’s exciting to hear that she’s already at work on her next project.

There’s not much information available since production is in its very early stages: Writer Lee’s completed the synopsis, but hasn’t started on the actual scripts yet. It’s easy to see why the interest level is high this early on though, since her debut was so strong. Once script work is done, they’re planning on quickly lining up their cast and starting filming.

We have more fall lineup news with KBS’s announcement that Sohn Ho-joon and Jo Boa will be in a Drama Special called Let Us Meet, Joo-oh (a play on words for Please Let Us Meet).

It’s about Gyeongseong’s trendiest modern boy and the girl who wanted to marry so much that she signed up for a matchmaking service. Then there’s Joo-oh, the male couple manager who is stuck in the middle trying to convince them of their compatibility. Gyeongseong was the old name of the capital before it became Seoul, back during the Japanese occupation era, so I’m hoping for a cute rom-com feel amidst the period backdrop.

Jo Boa confirmed her role back in July, and Sohn Ho-joon confirmed his recently. His last drama role was in Blow Breeze, a long family weekend drama, which was also his first time in a main lead role. Jo Boa has been a leading lady before in Surplus Princess where she played a naive mermaid-out-of-water, but has been mostly playing second leads ever since (Monster, The Man Living in Our House). But they both have pretty good comedic timing, so I’m looking forward to their chemistry together.

Let Us Meet, Joo-oh will be one of ten Drama Specials that will air starting September 3 on KBS. Other actors that have signed onto some of the other Drama Specials include B1A4’s Jinyoung, Jang Dong-yoon, Chae Soo-bin, and Ra Mi-ran.

I have been waiting for Kai to get a full length drama because he was super natural on 'Choco Bank', so I will certainly be watching that. I've been meaning to get more serious about Kdrama's recently so I'll check some more stuff out too.
