Q. You titled your new solo album "Do Disturb". What does it mean?
Yonghwa: During 3-4 years since I debuted, I never went out, and I always worked on my music. And when I worked on my music, I didn't want to be disturbed. However, one day when I was on my concert tour and was in a hotel, I felt so lonely. Nobody contacted me on my day off because I set the Do Not Disturb switch to On. So, I've changed my mind. I think musicians should communicate with listeners to make better music, and that's why I titled the album "Do Disturb".
Q. Tell me about the title track "That Girl".
Yonghwa: "That Girl" is a dance pop which has funky sounds. I wrote the song playing with composers in LA. It is a very exciting song, and I'm sure the song is perfect for summer.
Q. It's notable that the song is a dance pop. Will you dance on the stage?
Yonghwa: Well, after I wrote the song, my company recommended me to dance. But, you know, I'm not confident in dancing, and I'll just do very easy choreography on the stage.
Q. It could a big challenge for you, though. What made you decide to try new things?
Yonghwa: I could write songs which are similar to my previous hits, but I'm not interested in writing such songs. In addition, I'll become 30 years old next year, and I thought it could be my last chance to dance. As I said, I'll just do very easy choreography on the stage, but it was hard for me to learn the choreography. It was never easy for me to sing and dance at the same time. I respect dancing singers.
Q. What do you think is the difference between your songs and those of CNBLUE?
Yonghwa: I write CNBLUE's songs too, but when I write CNBLUE's songs, I try to reflect the other members' opinions. And when I write my solo songs, I do what I want to do.
Q. You're currently appearing in "Island Trio", and you seem to be very intimate with comedian Kang Hodong.
Yonghwa: Yeah, when I just debuted, I was afraid of him. But we get along well with each other these days. He always cares about me, and he is like my brother. Yesterday, I told him that my solo album will be released soon, and he said what's important is my health, not my work. He's a great person, and I think I was lucky to know him. I love him, haha.
Q. What do you do in your free time?
Yonghwa: I've never taken a rest for more than 3 days in a row. And I've never gone on vacation. Actually, I even try not to contact people because I think I could make a mistake if I drink with them. I spend lot of time alone, and I work on my music whenever I'm under stress. Music is my way of beating stress.
Q. What's your goal?
Yonghwa: I was loved by so many people after I debuted, but my popularity started to fade at some point. Some people fall into despair in such a situation because they can't forget their glory days. But, I'm not in despair now. I'm still trying hard to maintain my position, and I want to be upgraded. These days, I'm busier than ever before, and the reason why I work so hard is because I hope my 30s can be my best years. In my 30s, I want to take a long trip. And I'm also dreaming of being ranked no.1 on Billboard chart.

Date: 2017-07-20 12:58 am (UTC)I think as long as he continues to write music and enjoys it, some of his fans will keep following him.
I love CNBLUE the last few songs I didn't like as much as the years past, but as I hear the songs now they grew on me, and if you watch their concert footage I think the songs come alive much more then having the Music Video or on Music shows. To me CNBLUE is best when they are playing their instruments live in front of an audience!
