G-Dragon's Concert Pinned with Controversies

Big Bang's G-Dragon recently held a concert for his fans at the same time to celebrate the success of his solo activity without the members. Much like other issues related with G-Dragon, this concert had raised a series of controversies that the netizens are divided on.

The 21-year-old idol star from Big Bang, G-Dragon, held his first title concert titled, "Shine A Light." Thousands of fans around the country gathered for this special event, many of them being in their 10s and young teenage years. The fans had a great time at the concert, and even the fans across the globe who watched it through fan cameras seemed to enjoy it as well. The problem arose after the concert, when the stories and videos circulated the web.

The concert started with 'Heartbreaker' moved on to 'This Love', then 'Hello', then on to 'Gossip Man.' Everything was fine until the stage for the song 'Breathe' was set up. On the bed the 'Breathe' performance was portrayed with a female dancer known as Aimee Lucas. At one point when she had her legs around his hips, many netizens declared that the point was to clearly depict a "sex" scene. Some fans at the concert said that at one point they even heard "heavy breathing" sounds mixed in with the track. Sounds or not, the netizens are clearly making a statement that, the scene he portrayed was too much for most of the young audience present.

If that wasn't enough, during the 'She's Gone' performance, in the video that was shown, G-Dragon showed himself smoking and holding a knife, and even worse, stabbing a person with it exposing the fans to the violence. Netizens fired back at G-Dragon arguing that such images shouldn't be shown at all, especially to the minor kids. Fans were divided in their opinion, some saying that it had been "cool," while the other argued that this was inappropriate for the younger audience.

Especially for this performance, some netizens are deciding it to take it to the higher heights, such as the courts. This is because, before this song had a ban to be not played towards a younger audience. According to the law, if he is convicted, then it is less than 3 years or a fine of 20,000 dollars. However according to one association, because it had been a concert, they said that he couldn't be responsible for materials in court.

This same type of "concert controversy" happened during Park JinYoung (JYP)'s 2008 concert when he took one female audience from the crowd and tied her on to the bed. According to YG Entertainment, they stated, "Because he was preparing performances to match the songs, there are some that are at a higher level." They also pleaded, "Please watch this as G-Dragon becoming an adult."

Netizens comments:

    * "I wonder why he does that when he knows that his fans are mostly in their teen years"
    * "I know that he wants attention and all, but this is just out of the box"
    * "He is just portraying the songs. Not a big deal"
    * "He didn't even actually do it [sex] on stage!"
    * "Whatever people say,  I respect G-Dragon for his confidence"
    * "From a mother's point of view, I'm really mad, I hope my kids don't see this"
    * "Oh so he likes these things? Shall we call this SM?"

ETA: LOL I bet that thanks to this controversy his concert DVD is going to sell like hot cakes.

IKR?! As someone who was at the concert, it wasn't that bad. The Breathe part was nothing. There was no dry humping or anything else really. Just their faces really close, and at one part he touched her thigh.

The killing part was a little odd, but it took place in a more fantastical setting, with the choice in costumes and location. It wasn't like he was running down the street and just stabbing some random girl, nor did it elude to anyone that it was ok. After he stabbed her, he just sat down and stared at his hands and rubbed at the blood on his face. It wasn't like he gave the camera a thumbs up and said "TRY IT AT HOME, CHILDREN UNDER 18!" I don't get the freak out. They see more real murders on CSI TV here than at a GD concert, but no one's banning CSI.

Also, how about not letting you kid go to the concert if you're so against it?

ROFL, I find this ridiculously amusing that this news is entirely based on fancams. Other than that, seriously? Has Korea not seen a Madonna concert?

I wonder why the fans are making a big deal of this when they know his personality and must have known that he was going to go way overboard with his performances.

This is the guy who wore a I &hearts Sex pin to an awards show, fcs.
Why is there so much shock now?

OH MY GOD. Honestly. I understand that some of it was a little ~twisted~ or ~sexually themed~ (which is kind of crap because nothing really happened, NO DRY HUMPING as people were saying, just her legs around his waist) but from the lyrics of the song/s what did you expect? And if the song had a ban to not be played to younger audiences then why were they allowed to come to this concert at all?

And again, it's G-Dragon. He's not going to stay safe for his first solo concert.

THIS. AFAIK, when Tae Yang had his solo show, people had to be of legal age to attend, so why didn't they do the same with GD? With "Breathe" having been banned beforehand, shouldn't it be the job of whoever decides to ban the song in the first place to make sure that younger audiences don't get to hear the song in a public surrounding/on TV/radio? It's GD, damnit, of course he'd try to stir up some controversy/get people talking.

Taeyang had an "adults only" day in his solo concert, I though it was the case with GD's too for the more risqué performances. Apparently I was wrong.

oh stfu. it's your responsibility, if you KNOW that the song was banned from minors listening, to stop your kids from seeing it. be a damn parent.

I think it's bullshit, tbh. Take him to court? For a harmless performance? He's broken no laws, so this is pretty ridiculous. He's made a number of mistakes that I'm not super happy with, but this isn't one of them. His album was 18+, and what exactly were people expecting from the performances of songs like Breathe or She's Gone, with the lyrics they have? I realize that he could've had pulled a Taeyang and had a performance for the younger crowd and a performance for the older crowd, but frankly he isn't obligated to do shit. Yes, he's an idol, but he has creative license to stage his concert as he wants to. It's the audience's prerogative to attend or not attend as they please.

"From a mother's point of view, I'm really mad, I hope my kids don't see this"

Uh... yes? It's the parents' responsibility to keep their kids from seeing inappropriate things. Not GD's. Don't expect the world to censor itself for your kids, hun.

Okay honestly. I kinda freaked out when I heard there was a bed scene, but seeing those fancams(I wasn't rich enough to go) I pretty much felt normal. It sucks seeing my fav idol on top of another girl, but it wasn't that bad.

I have a few things to say to the netizens.
If they find the performance inappropriate they can GTFO.
Don't watch it then.

It bugs me man.

But see, that's getting upset for another reason. It's your fav idol dancing on a bed with another girl, it's not ~*~scaring you for life~*~ because it's something that eludes to sex in general.

To anyone that went, was there any sort of parental advisory when buying tickets or in the ticket text itself?

I'm curious about this. I'm not even judging the performances as I'm not watching fancams until I get a DVD of the show but this can go a long way in avoiding problems related to content with the easily offended.
