Picture of the girls behind the cut.

- Sowon's legs.. Does it even make sense?ㅠㅠ
- I hope they keep on being healthy despite all the diets they've gone through..ㅠㅠ
- It hit me so hard when I saw GFriend in person.. They make me want to go on a diet..
- Who's the girl in the last picture..? She looks so pretty..
- One of my relatives who is a back dancer, told me that Black Pink is the thinnest girl group she has ever seen.. She said they look like dolls.. And even though the other female idols are thin as well, Black Pink's members are really really thin..
- Nine Muses is literally the best.. All of them have a very nice legs, I'm so jealous of them..ㅠㅠ
- Mamamoo's members are really thin..ㅠㅠ
- Hul.. I thought the girl in the last picture was Oh Yeonseo..
- Sowon's ankle.. Is this the real life..
- GFriend's members have lost so much weight..
- Mamamoo is the thinnest female idols I've ever seen in person..ㅠㅠ Especially Moonbyul..
- They're so thin..ㅠㅠ I hope they're healthy..
- I was so shocked when I saw Mamamoo in person.. Solar shocked me the most..
- Whoa.. Their thighs are the same size as my arms..
- Let's just see if anyone dares to tell them that they're fat..
- Sowon's ankles are probably the same size as my wrists..ㅠㅠ
- I thought Shinbi and Umji are considered chubby in their group, but they're actually really thinㅠㅠ
- They're so thin.. Kind of jealous of them, but also feeling sorry towards them..

I know appearance isn't the only way to determine health but people are on some strong shit if they think a lot of these girls aren't severely underweight. I wouldn't be surprised if many of them aren't able to menstruate properly, it can't be healthy to maintain such low body fat levels. Sowon's legs look photoshopped for god's sake

I remember seeing a video of an ex SM/JYPE trainee who said because of the sever dieting she was forced to go through her period stopped, and she had to use medications for it to flow again. Girl stopped being a trainee when she was like 16 or sth. So they forced a child to go on a sever diet not caring how it's gonna screw her over in the future.

also on weekly idol doni coni were all shocked cause they said they ate 3 meals a day & a snack, which was messed up cause it's just reinforcing the idol girls shouldnt be eating normally and a "diet" just means skipping meals and two, multiple idols have come out and said their "meals" are an egg, or half a potato, or some other ludicrous item.

i cant decide if i think it's worse for it never to be talked about or talked about in mock concern (but really just hinting how hardworking they are for not eating) as interview questions and the like.

They're only starting to worry now?

It's not like there has been several case of anorexia (Sojung talked about it), fainting due to "overwork" (more like malnutrition+extreme fatigue). Many of these girls also have body image issue and ugly netizen comments like the ones targeting Um Ji, Luna or Lee Hi, among others, did NOT help.
I know Moon Byul mentionned she would isolate herself and avoid going out so she wouldn't be tempted to eat
Like... this whole industry heavily relies on idol not eating enough

it worries me most when i see really young idols drop lots of weight suddenly.... umji is a great example of this in this post, but so are a lot of sm idols. joy was one of the most dramatic examples i feel.

it's still concerning when other idols are extremely thin, but if they've always been thin + they're not literal teenagers it's a bit different since they're not under that same pressure to drop a tonne of weight in unhealthy ways.

Date: 2017-07-11 08:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] adenar.livejournal.com
luna also comes to mind when i think of sm idols who suddenly lost drastic amounts of weight (i'm sure she probably did some surgery around the same time, i'm no expert, but her face definitely changed due to weightloss too)

i think clc's yujin is the idol who comes to mind for me who seems to just be naturally stick thin? everything about that girl is tiny. it's hard to judge though, especially if they keep their predebut photos under wraps.

This is really concerning, poor girls.
I know people will come in and say that some of the girls are naturally that thin, but I find that hard to believe.
When Blackpink debuted I was so shocked at how thin they were. It's kind of heartbreaking to see.
And that picture of Mamamoo...
Especially with Hwasa next to them.
It's obvious no one is looking out for these girls but I hope someday someone will.

I watched Red Velvet's performances yesterday and I couldn't stop focusing on how skinny Wendy and Seulgi were. I hope they're allowed to eat well. I hate how tiny waists are worshipped and held up as a standard among female idols.

this is really sad. i feel for these girls. no matter what they look like they'll get critisism. being healthy will get them called fat which often leads to this dramatic weight loss and again critisism that they're too thin. this is really dangerous and knowing that these companies stimulate these unhealthy life styles is disgusting.

Date: 2017-07-11 08:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] a-suitcase.livejournal.com
Yeah, mte :(. They're stuck, if they lose a lot of weight they'll get praised (I've seen a lot of comments elsewhere about how Wendy looks the best she's ever looked now, even though the amount of weight she has lost seems very very worrying :() but I imagine they'll have such low energy and just generally not be well. But if they gain weight and are at a healthy weight for them they'll be called fat (like Hwasa, Luna, Joy, Sonamoo's Newsun etc).

it's disgusting the way female idols (and male idols tbh, thinking of nu'est's baekho who felt so much pressure to diet that when they did individual member project diaries his was just dieting, while jr and the others did stuff like 'writing own raps' and, you know, stuff that actually mattered) have their weight talked about. there really are commenters who just want to complain no matter what, they'll complain that they're chubby and then complain that they're too thin. I really admire idols like Sojung or IU who are able to talk about it, and I'm glad JinE at least is able to take time out to help find a way to live with her disorder. But that's such a small drop in such a huge ocean.

It seems to me that that super skinny pre-pubscent 'look' is a really popular body to aspire to - in Korea especially but in the West too in certain ways. It's easy to 'get' such a body when you are an actually 16yo idol, but it's not the sort of thing any full grown woman sound be aspiring too. Or probably anyone.

I was watching Produce 101 season 1 last night(never seen it) and I was really nfht the part where the trainer pulled girls out of the group to put on diets and when they went to the hospital to get measured and weighed. Girls that were 48kg and 55kg were like freaking out saying that they would lose weigh or that they gained weight.

This is terrible, this has been terrible. I hope something changes

I was thinking of p101 too... it was all blatant for us to see including their real weight. I also think some of those girls are not as typical body type (not as thin) as the debuted idols.

This is definitely terrible. It has always creeped me out, especially when I was in highschool and had to face people who body-shamed me and were really gross to girls who were chubbier, watching K-shows and seeing K-netz comments made it worse.
The thing that stuck to my mind was when, I think in Weekly Idol or Star King, they were measuring girls' waists and thighs and had a "record" for the thinnest waist. It happened with Hara and Mina from AOA with the waist and Jessica and Tiffany with their 5-3-2 measurements for their legs.

It's super scary. I'm weary of putting a diagnosis based of some pictures but then you have idols who spoke about eating disorder (Sojung of Ladies' Code comes to mind), very drastic weight changes (Yuri around Hoot/First Japanese Album to name the first one that I noticed while it was happening) and the constant focus on what they're eating. Weekly Idol for example is one of the worst show I've seen about that ; on one hand they have games to give out meat, and on the other hand, they're measuring the girls or acting surprised about three meals a day for a girl group. It's so hypocrite.
And there's no winner, either they're too "big" or too thin. Luna got so much hate because of her (healthy looking) legs, and then so much hate when she followed the initial comments and lost weight...

Date: 2017-07-12 12:24 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] msgrottesca.livejournal.com
To be fair, the Weekly Idol reaction was much more like "Woah, y'all eat three times a day and still look that skinny?" cuz they immediately followed it up with "Believe it or not, we only eat once a day and still look like this." LOL honestly I'm shocked any time idols say three times a day because it's a) always a lie and b) something they almost never say.

Girl group members can't live. If they lose weight, they're too skiny (and I don't say it like it's a bad thing knetz are concerned about it), but if they gain just a little bit of weight, they get fatshamed to hell and back.

Lizzy from After School/Orange Caramel is probably the most extreme example I can think of. I think part of it is that she seems to have gotten a chin implant/v-line surgery so her face looks thinner, but it's almost scary looking at her pictures. I feel so awful for her.

At least JinE was able to take some time off to focus on recovery but I can't imagine the other OMG are eating much better; I'm sure they're all on very restrictive diets as well. Any time somebody calls an idol fat it just makes me so damn mad

i can't even imagine how these girls look without the extra 5 kg added by camera. yet i myself feel obligated to fit into modern ~aesthetic, and only super skinny people can look good in it... it got a bit better for me health-wise since i gained a couple of kilos and am no longer underweight, but i feel SO. MUCH. GUILT. every time i'm hungry and have to eat, every time i skip exercising because of lack of time, i immediately start hating my body. and the sad thing is that looking at my skinny reflection in the mirror and pulling off all kinds of outfits brings the most joy to me, nothing can compare :(
