Every week I check out this week in a past year and post the top three songs. Then, I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This Flashback Friday, let’s see what topped the charts for the 5th week in June, 2012. Serendipitously, there’s a theme running through the honorable mentions, LOL.


#3 Big Bang “Monster”
I’m a sucker for songs with lush orchestrations, so I like this a lot. Sometimes when I’m running in the park and end up crying at the duck pond, 40% of the time it’s because of the instrumental version of this song. (The other 60% is almost always because of Lea Salonga’s “On My Own” at the Les Mis 10th anniversary concert)

#2 Wonder Girls “Like This”
Remember when flash mobs were a thing? I’m still not really a fan of the song, but it easily gets stuck in your head. I also think Lim looks freaking adorable with the hair in the MV. I miss WG so much, I cried over them earlier this week.

#1 f(x) “Electric Shock”
I don’t remember this MV at all. And I always think of Anna Kendrick when I hear this song lol wtf.

Honorable Mentions

#9 B1A4 “Baby Goodnight”
The only thing that sounds familiar to me is the chorus. I don’t remember the rest of the song and I don’t think I’ve ever seen the video before. The ending is pretty messed up, wtf girl. I do love a good poncho though.

#10 Dalshabet “Mr. Bang Bang”
Ahhhh, this is my favorite Dalshabet song! I love this SOOO MUCH lol! They looked so darn cute this era too. I am a total city gal, but I can’t resist denim cutoffs, cowboy boots and a little line dancing.

'Like this' holds a very special place in my heart because it came out the weekend I met some of my nieces, nephews and sisters for the first time. It just sounds like a great party and the joy is infectious, as is the live stages. It's also the ONLY time that I liked Sohee's vocals, bless.

Electric Shock was my intro to f(x), though I largely prefer Jet.

electric shock is the second f(x) song i listened to. my thoughts were "nice song, weird outfits". it's songs like these that make me not watch the mvs when i first listen to the comeback songs

I honestly think Monster is one of Big Bang's best song and MV (love the visuals and the special effects). After the side-eying I did with their Fantastic Baby, I absolutely love Monster. Its not some repeated useless lyrics but the song has actual lyrics and awesome music and the last part where they sing; 'I think I'm sick...' is kind of sad as the song is all about 'I'm not a monster!!' but at the end, the song implied that they themselves think they are monsters..

I remember Wonder Girls' song so much as that is the song that Infinite beat on their 2nd week of promoting The Chaser if I'm not mistaken. When they were announced as the winner, they also didnt believe it lol.

i hated like this imo , they did yenny and sunye so dirty with the hairstyles i completely wrote off the entire comeback lmao same with two different tears (though the song/choreo was iconic)
