The biggest pop star of Asia knows in a confusing manner to persuade people of his role as a ruthless killer.

It's surprising that a movie so bloody and violent as Ninja Assassin can be so boring. After a quick explosion of extreme action the movie slows down a little bit to expand the plot in a slow pace. Uncountable shots of Raizo (played by the South Korean pop star Rain) who's training in his apartment are switched with scenes of cop Mika (Naomie Harris), who is investigating a couple of murders. The audience in the mean time is waiting desperately for the return of bloody scenes. Luckily Ninja Assassin knows how to deliver those passages in a perfect manner, with impressive graphic shots and lost limbs that are flying across the screen and fountains of blood that spray from dying bodies.

Still this doesn't always make up for the long scenes with boring material.

As the star of the movie Rain is a curious choice. His mostly wordless Raizo is impressively deadly with his body, but during quiet moments with his fellow actress Harris is Rain often too sweet, to much fun. This often is so bad that it's hard to compare this character with the deadly assassin from other scenes. A bit confusing, but Rain's acting performances during the movie are definitely not to blame.

The biggest pop star from Asia shows that he has a bright future in Hollywood ahead of him.

take out with proper credit :)

I decided to fully translate the article [livejournal.com profile] eunkyung scanned from the Dutch news paper Metro. Finally i can put my Dutch language to some good use D: I am sorry if there are some errors I tried my hardest to not translate it too literally and make it an awkward read >_>;

I must have walked into the wrong cinema.

yep, saw it yesterday in pathe. I was happy they didn't hold back with the violence and blood.
Bit too much in contrast with the slower scenes though.
I would give 3 stars too

I watched this not expecting for the plot. I watched for some a lot of bloods. I always wonder why he called her had special heart, then finally in the end, it gave me surprise with the scientific reason for his statement.

My best friend actually fell asleep during the backstory scenes. XD

So buying that shit on DVD, I don't even care - I could watch the scenes of him training in his apartment and killing bitches with his chain!blade thingy over and over again.

Like most people here, I'm not going for the plot.
But this sounds good for me, because in most action movies everything moves so fast that I'm always asking "why are they doing this?!"

Actually, almost all the critics gave the movie a C+ on average, whereas the Yahoo voters gave it a B+

I think general concensus was that it was about action, not plot.

I bet it becomes a cult classic. :B

Boh, Metro didn't really gave a "bad" criticism.

PLOT? WHAT PLOT?

people who are going to see this movie for the ~plot~ and ~depth~ are totally doing it wrong.

It's an action movie first of all. What are these movie critics expecting? You either went to go see it for half-nekkid Rain or for the Ninjas.

I had already read it yesterday in the paper. Too bad she didn't scan the interview they had with rain himself.
I quote: "I will have more fans because of this movie." ^^

And there where more not so humble remarks from the man himself ^^

I did :) It just isn't posted here. I only posted it at the Rain community.

I wanted to scan this as well, lol. I lol'ed so much when I read that last line. XD
My mom tore it out of the paper for me, I don't even like Rain, wth. XD

There was a small interview with him next to this article. I think it was a translation of this (http://www.metro.us/us/article/2009/11/25/07/4318-82/index.xml) one.

It's so strange seeing him in a Dutch paper. This is like Nino all over again.

LOL IDGI. I don't really watch an action flick expecting it to have an ~amazing~ plot.

I also think that the shift in his character throughout the movie is to show the contrast in Raizo the Ninja VS Raizo the human.

There WERE cheesy/greasy moments that had me cringing though. Still a good watch for the cool moves and the blood. Oh, and Bi. XD

At least Bi's performance was not the problem :3

I love reading reviews of Ninja Assassin, they're all so hilarious. Even the Koreans I know don't want to see it, it's so bad, LOL. (Bad doesn't mean it can't be fun!)

So it's basically the same as 2012 but with the Rain shirtless bonus

I did a double-take when I read this on the train yesterday, I didn't expect to see Rain in a Dutch newspaper ^^;;
Is Ned Ehrbar the original interviewer or the translator?
