Makes sense. I guess they want to avoid a "Whatta Man"/Gugudan debut thing like last time.

i wonder if this won't hurt mmo and bnm in the long run. their trainees have become so popular, they might as well debut on their own now. and nu'est's contract w/ pledis should expire in 2019 unless i'm mistaken.

ia. maybe pledis can make a subunit w/ the members, who don't make it into the final group, but i doubt pledis will spend any money on them. not even oc got a comeback after my copycat, although they were so popular.

I mean dongho and minhyun are popular, if they dont make it where will the korean noonas go for their sexy bandit? Besides Nu'est are still in trainee debt to the company so I expect them to be promoted heavily(in japan) through this small amount of fame, if not a comeback or subunit then probably just acting and megaton bar commercials.

well, if everything else fails, dongho can at least become a cf model for megaton bars.

Well thats a bummer for Nu'est since the only one thats surely going to make it is Jonghyun. The rest are in limbo. I hate that because theres a lot of singular trainees that are going to most likely debut from groups of trainees their company sent over like I really want the MMO boys to debut after this but with Daniel being the most popular contestant atm and jisung's debut fate up in the air who knows what will happen. Same with the Yuehua boys and the Brand new music boys, they are practically ready to debut as their own group but the most popular trainees are gonna debut with 101. I mean Nu'est can promote sub units with the remaining members for the time being, but for people like Jisung who rose in rank thanks to the two pick with daniel, his fate with a lot of trainees' fates are up in the air.

This going to really screw over certain groups. BNM boys for example are guranteed to have at least one person in the top11. And if Jisung makes it then he'll immediately have to head for the army after the two year period.

Messnet learns from experiance I see - the debate about some girls not being with IOI but their own groups kinda soured their whole run, fandom got even more splitted etc.
Now they want to be sure all the relevancy they catapulted those guys to is used by them, like look at that concert team thing - not even fame earned by 2nd&3rd ten wouldn't be fully "wasted" on other parties, Messnet must truly felt bitter when last year girls who were almost there but did not make it started to run around with a lot of activities and they had nothing from it.

This makes total sense to me, and I actually kinda like it. These trainees (and the companies they come from) chose to be on this show with the hopes of ending up in the top 11. So, if they do end up there I don't want the companies to try to take them out of the pd101 activities in order to launch a new group with their newfound popularity. The boys chosen should, imho, focus that one (or about one) year of activities on this group and then they can debut with their own groups afterwards.

companies who sent trainees to this show knew about this and thought it was the best. they wouldn't risk if it wasn't interesting for them on anything (even if it was just to be in a favorable light with mnet at the end of the day).

nuest case is the most interesting to me. I can see pledis trying to milk any popularity they've after the show if only jonghyun makes it. subunit or whatever they want to call the group without him. but I also feel like pledis can just do nothing to the ones that don't make the final 11. maybe a couple of ost's here and there lol it's just that this agency looks too focused on svt and pristin to even care...

if the agencies want to debut a group with trainees ready to debut that didn't make and someone in the final 11, they will probably just debut them and add the other member when p101 contract is over. I can see mmo and brand new doing this to not waste the popularity that the show gave to these boys, even the ones who didn't make the final lineup.

Makes sense.

I hope the Top 20 agency CEO/Presidents come along to the live final so we can see their expressions at the results. Last season only Chungha's CEO seemed happy.

Ngl I kind of enjoyed the Whatta Man era because it gave certain girls a time to shine (and gave Pinky lines) and also we got WJSN's Secret in that time, but it definitely didn't do any favours for Sejeong/Mina/Chaeyeon and I think the comeback would have been fine with all 11 members (the only one I can't imagine in that concept is Chaeyeon, but they made it work for Sohye). So I think this is finally Messnet making a nice decision, haha.

As for Nu'est, idk. Minhyun actually got a solo debut within the last year (? i think it was in that timeframe) so I imagine pledis might do that again and pursue the Raina path with him, and Minki's been fairly busy with modelling and CF's in Nu'est's downtime before. If I was running Pledis I'd maybe be thinking about rushing out a Dongho solo debut in between Seventeen/Raina comebacks to ride the wave of popularity - since I think it would provide some diversity between Minhyun and Raina's coffee shop/ballad genres, as I can't imagine Dongho getting the same image - while Jonghyun prepares to debut in BOI. And then like, one final comeback before contracts end. Even if this boosts the individual member's profile, like we saw with IOI, it didn't translate to the groups, and I don't think Nu'est would really have bounced back. And Aron can become a full time DJ or something idk

To be honest it's for the good of the contestants.

I felt sorry for Chaeyeon who had to rush to and fro from ioi to DIA

You know without this rule their companies would work them to the bone for the ₩ ₩ ₩

Good. IOI7 did fine with Whatta Man but it would've better with their strongest vocalists.
