Considering the recent slump in the Korean movie industry, it was a pretty good year for films, with several big hits breaking box office records, like Haeundae and Take Off, both of which amassed a number of nominations. It was also a good year for the smaller, indie movie, with awards being given to actors of Breathless, and both Kim Myung-min and Ha Ji-won pulling in top acting honors for their performances in My Love By My Side (aka Closer to Haeven).

Mother was so fantastic. Won Bin was fantastic, but Kim Hye Ja killed it omg.

I kind of liked Thirst, then again, I've always liked Park Chan Wook's stuff. This was some sort of ~experimentation~ for him so I just sat through it and like whuuuut throughout lol.

Mother is so awesome, really. Won bin is eye candy and i just love the guy and his acting. I'm not sure if your 'killed it' is good or bad since it works both ways.. lol. But i think she did a great job acting out the role.

I loved Old Boy and Lady Vengeance (Oh god that movie is so osm) but somehow I didn't think it lived up to the hype. In interviews Park Chanwook always mentioned the inner struggle is the main theme and it seems like it wasn't clearly portrayed as I expected it to be. It was more of a romance than anything.

I meant it in a good way hehehe. I was expecting the movie to be mostly about Won Bin really, but Kim Hye Ja just blew me away.

Yeah, Thirst did seem to be a little less thematic compared to his older works. But in I'm a Cyborg but That's Okay, he did manage some semblance of romance and comedy yet retaining the theme of individualism.

Well, the romance won't really bother me if it kept its purpose all the way through. It just seemed all over the place. Maybe I should finish watching it and see if it turns out to be better than the impression I have right now.

I saw Thirst and was really disappointed by it. I feel like the movie completely lost track of what it thought it was supposed to be about halfway through and just decided to go with "this girl is batshit isn't that funny/cute/scary?" instead. :/

I stopped watching in the middle. Right after the girl was turned. I went "WTF IS THIS????" It just seemed like a bad allusion of Adam and Eve at that point lol.

I don't think you are supposed to think that it is funny/cute/scary.... When the priest becomes a vampire he thinks he is a monster even though he doesn't kill people, he drinks enough blood to not get ill but doesn't kill that one guy. The girl when she is turned she becomes a full blown monster, but she already was one before don't you think? She convinced the priest that she was being abused when she was not, and had him kill her husband. She loved having all this power and to finally do what she wanted with no emotions for anyone else and he was the one struggling.

Yeah, but the movie basically started out being about him, and then switched to basically being about her. he spent the last hour of the movie standing in the background watching her ramble around. Also I don't really think that the part where she portrayed her life as terrible when it wasn't was conveyed very well, because, I mean. Her husband and his mother were both repulsive people. I mean, I get what they were going for, that it was all OH LOOK AT THE NATURE OF HUMANITY, but I really don't think it was pulled off at all.
