The Japanese. Ugh. Especially Bambam and Jackson's.
As someone above said, this (and their Japan style in general) should imo be and have been their overall style - ish. Obviously not 100% but, 75/80? Bold and fun, upbeat and not-taking-itself-too-seriously.
I really tried to give them a chance and at their debut I was kind of hopeful but after that they've just been wobbling (yes, wobbling) with their sound all over the place. They don't know what they want to do with their music style despite making actual individual efforts in participating in their b-sides and it seems no one in their company is actually knows what to do with them or has a real vision regarding them either.
Their sound is simply a mess which is a shame since they're really likable, bight, good-looking and almost all of them are good dancers. Them having an actual style and clear concept would have made them stand out in the Korean scene too.
I'm just left wondering why no one at JYPE thought to assign at least one or two house producers to work tightly with the boys and guide them... I mean.. at SOME point during the last 3,5 years...
But I also liked the '90s vibe, especially the old VHS-looking parts. I wish the whole video had been in that style, actually. That would have been fun!
Honestly I can relate to this. I became a fan thru IYD (and I would love love looove if if they'd ever go back to that sound and especially that aesthetic because it was perfect) and stayed because of their personalities and individual activities but their music releases keep giving me mixed feelings. I think the songs they make themselves apart from maybe Jackson I'm so sorry are their best ones. I feel like their music has been improving by every album (I'm talking about their Korean releases, idk what's going on with their stuff in Japan) so that's why I stay curious for new releases. But yeah it feels like JYPE doesn't know what to do with them :( it would be interesting to see what they'd come up with if the boys themselves got full creative control over their music and image.
i agree that some of the tracks they release on soundcloud sound better than their official releases
as for Jackson, he's great at variety and he is obvs a hard worker, but i can't say he's musically gifted, though his singer voice is not bad, i mean compared to some of the rapping
Jackson is surprisingly good at singing and I like his rapping voice too, he just needs to work on his rhymes. As for his music I'm kinda taking back my words lol he's not that bad, mostly referring to OUT (from Arrival) and WOLO (that he performed on concerts) not being my cup of tea, he seems to really like making hard hitting songs but they're kinda too much for me (he did do Boom x3 on Turbulence tho which I kinda dig).
I think he might be a decent songwriter with some more experience. He's already great in variety and a good dancer so he has a lot going for him. I think all of the members have a lot of talent that isn't really used to its fullest potential by JYPE (but that might be just my bias showing, I'm sure every fan feels the same about their faves)
The tracks they release on soundcloud are pretty different from the stuff got7 does, but it'd be cool to see got7 try a rnb concept since many of them seem to like it and know how to do it. Otherwise personally imo the songs that the boys do for got7's albums are the better than the ones made by others.
I don't know know if it's Stockholm syndrome, but after listening to never.ever a lot I start thinking the rap aren't so bad, but then you go and listen to some real rappers, and you can't deny how basic it is. I think some.of the produce 101 kids are probably better.
I've not listened to much of new album. I liked Sick, Prove it, and Let me hold your hand
But I really like Yugyeom's The Way You Are, but I do love RnB.
Never Ever had so much potential when I heard the teaser. If they do a none rap version....
I would love for them to be given the chance to do their own thing, but also think they need guidance, and it's like they haven't found the right match yet
They definitely need guidance to properly hone their skills.
I liked Never Ever and its sound but, and it hurts to say this, got7 doesn't have the best rap line no. My faves from Turbulence are Dreamin & Mayday. But their newest album is pretty good imo. Mostly I have Never Ever and Paradise (it's soooo good and made by Jinyoung) on repeat from it.
