On May 2 at midnight KST, VIXX’s official Twitter account dropped the first look at their upcoming comeback. Written in Chinese characters on traditional paper, the title track and the album appear to have the same name. In Hangul, the characters spell out “Do Won Kyung.” The characters refer to the “Peach Blossom Spring” in a Chinese fable about eternal paradise.

lol i just think that it's easy for people to conflate korean/japanese/chinese/east asian culture as just "asian", and the fact that they're drawing inspiration from a chinese fable just makes me worry a bit? i'm not seriously concerned, but it brings to mind big bang's "bae bae" kimono controversy and sistar's "i like that" thing

Oh yeah "I like that" was weird... very western take of what they think asian means... I don't think they'll be very explicitly Chinese inspired with this, or at least I hope not

This is extremely interesting - it would never have occurred to me that Koreans could appropriate Chinese culture. That's partly unexamined racist attitudes on my part, partly the historical links between Chinese and Korean culture, and partly, I think, the assumption that it's only appropriation if there's a dominating relationship between the appropriator and the appropriatee - so for example an Australian (like me) technically couldn't appropriate, say, French culture, because there's never been a time when Australians conquered or colonised the French. Which is not to say Australians couldn't badly imitate or crudely parody French culture, influenced by prejudice. Similarly, there seems to be a fair bit of prejudice against the Chinese in South Korean culture - I doubt they'd confuse Korea with China the way the West tends to do, but they could still embarrass or offend. Let's hope Jelpi are smart enough to keep the enormous Chinese market sweet.
