jonghyun announced (while crying for fifteen straight minutes) during his live broadcast of blue night radio today that he'll be leaving his post as dj on april 2nd. though he said that he'll come back in the future the tone of the entire reveal was kind of final sounding (but, then again, he's emotional so who knows). he stated that the decision is due to his health and "various reason", such as schedules. (for example: shinee are going to be doing fifteen concerts, with two or three every weekend, throughout the course of april.) information is kind of fragmented for now, but it'll likely become clearer in the coming weeks. that's why the (?) is in the topic title, lol. no one knows if it's for good or for a few months, or. he celebrated his third year anniversary as dj at the start of last month.

ur resident shawol and fyjjong admin is pretty bummed right now, guys. this show meant a lot to him and he was audibly devastated when sharing the news with listeners. there's no word on who's going to replace him yet, but it's def not going to be the same.

Aw, couldn't he just take a hiatus while touring? Or they should arrange his schedule around it, it's clearly important to him. His whole life doesn't have to be shinee. And he cried, omg </3 :(( Who do we have to yell at? I'm half-asleep and I read only part of the title at first "JONGHYUN LEAVES" and I almost had a heart attack because my sleep-addled mind helpfully filled in the blanks with "SHINEE." that can't happen ever, they're the only boy group I have left.

gijdgoids yeah i didn't know how to phrase it right but that seemed like the only way. ultimately it seems like his decision to leave is a way to put both his health and shinee first so i understand. plus i guess the hiatus would be too much? like he's taken hiatuses for one or two weeks before / had people cover for him but i guess it's becoming too hectic for him or maybe mbc was getting tired of having more prerecorded broadcasts than live. it's hard to say.

WHAT?!! this is so sad. he seemed so happy there and it fit perfectly with his interests. i remember seeing the new mbc radio picture ads with him and other mbc hosts and picturing him being there for a longer time.

it was comforting to hear from him when shinee wasn't promoting in korea..... still if it's for his health and his passion for performing then it's understandable.

it seems like the decision was made with jonghyun's best in mind. he mentioned he's been getting treatment for his insomnia and i can see how blue night might interfere with that.

still, hearing the news made me kinda sad. blue night has been such a good thing for both jonghyun and the fans and i realize that i've kinda been taking it for granted. i loved seeing daily anecdotes from jjongd on my twitter tl. and his interviews with other idols/artists. and his banter with go young bae. it's definitely going to take a bit for this to really sink in

the treatment for his insomnia was what came to mind for me first when he mentioned his health, tbh. i can't remember when but someone mentioned that, when promoting, he usually does blue night live, doesn't get home until 3/4am and is only really able to shower or change his clothes before he's off to start another day with no sleep. so, it's probably for the best there.

but ia. i'm gonna miss seeing the daily translations and there's no denying that the show gave a lot for him in terms of career and chance.

i just hope he's okay, i cant help to think he enjoy blue nights so much i'm sure he wouldnt be leaving if it wasnt a really important reason. Of course, his health is important too .... i hope he's okay

iirc all of the japan schedules were prerecorded during this stretch of two days mid-ish last month where he had to go back and prerecord some broadcasts of the show. he was there for a few of the early ones but beyond that he's been mia. it's only gonna get more intense too with the april schedules. ;;

i didnt read further than Jongyun To Leave and screamed at the top of my lungs i thought this man was leaving shinee but then at the same time shinee is basically his favorite group and he forgets hes in it most of the time so

I know it's best for him to take care of himself and I for sure want him to do that. But Blue Night is everything to him. It gave him a platform to start his solo career. So I know I'm sad about this, but I know he's devastated. I felt like he was really in his element doing the show.

I get him being upset too but...why during the show? Imagine tuning in for a radio show and listening to the show's host crying (and for 15 minutes straight no less), I really doubt they'd have the same reception.

i figure because: it's a late night show and it has a really specific listener base (a lot being made up of shawols) who know that he's pretty emotional, tbh. even casual listeners are aware because media reported on it before so he's pretty comfortable with being open with his emotions on it. but he doesn't cry often on there - like i can only think of maybe three times he's cried on air in all the time he's been on the show and it was either related to sentimentality or a tough topic. it was a spur of the moment thing and he really wasn't sobbing. it was more like it was obvious he was choked up but he kept it together pretty well considering that it's... him.

oh no :( i hope he is able to continue it but :((( blue night has been so so so good for him, and i loved him dj'ing + all the memories he's made there. it also helped him with his solo stuff (i remember listening to i'm sorry and like you first on there back in 2014 ;;) and just. wow. i really hope things work out for the better ;;

I'm so bummed that it got to this point for him. Some of my favorite songs of his have come from Blue Night and it really did seem like a great, therapeutic thing for him and all of the listeners. Nonetheless managing his health should always come first. I hope he can continue one day. Btw thanks OP for all of your amazing Blue Night coverage - I may go back to the archives sometime soon.
