Officials have said that major music sites such as Melon, Bugs, Genie, Mnet, Soribada, Naver, and Monkey3 will be all moving to a new format of realtime rankings. Songs that are released at midnight will only enter the music charts at 1PM, as if they were released at Noon.

The bill that may be implemented as soon as the end of the month says that realtime rankings will only be active between 12PM and 6PM. If songs are released at any other time, their rankings will counted on the charts the following afternoon. There will be no difference between weekends and weekdays.

Singers generally release their songs at midnight since there are fewer users online, giving them a better chance at higher ranks. But with the change, their ranks will only be reflected during "prime time" hours.

This is basically meant to maintain stability and fairness within charts.

They don't want songs that are usually in the Top 10 during peak hours to drop many places due to an influx of late-night streaming.

Oops, boygroups won't be able to see their songs lining up 1-10 of the charts during nighttime anymore, lol.

Honestly I like this, I'm fine.

I stan Block B and they fall at night and rise during the day anyway.

real-time charts are dumb af, just make it weekly. even daily charts are pushing it and only good for the flop groups really want their short lived recognition that badly.

isnt Spring Day doing super well on the charts? idt its dropped lower than top 3 on melon since its release which is pretty rare for a boygroup that isnt big basura (altho im not sure how its popularity reflects irl yet)

now charts is another thing younger fans loves to compete about lol this mean no more kpop songs randomly toping charts at 3am or fandoms massive streaming competitions for a fabricated PAK

im actually happy, the charts look so ugly when korea is sleeping like idg why fans even do it like korea is asleep? its not gonna make ur faves seem more popular? it rlly just makes ppl dislike the group tbh

yea. this is mostly affect (both) boy and girl groups that don't have a lot of casual listeners / listeners outside of fandom (ie: vixx, got7, seventeen, dal shabet, laboum, etc.), lesser known indie artists and newer groups that don't either have a well known agency to hype them or who haven't gotten known by the public through a variety show or something. my faves are fine, but i feel for the aforementioned lol

seems fair. checking for chart rankings is so stupid anyway. we see good songs don't chart and bad songs chart high it's a farce

good. wouldn't mind they got rid of real time rankings altogether either

i'm really not sure about the hours they picked. won't people stream songs more likely in the morning (aka before going to school or work or whatever is the case) or late in the evening (also arent most kids in hagwon till late night. plus add standing in lines for music shows, participating in prerecording... when will they even stream lol)? especially with starting point 12pm... it's just odd to me. i don't see how that is supposed to "maintain stability and fairness within charts".
i find hourly charts fun because it's interesting to see certain dynamics on charts. but if they wanted to make a change then they should've used daily charts instead of counting only fixed hours.

From: [identity profile] violoncelliste.livejournal.com
mte, hours they picked are basically when people are at work/school. i have NO idea whose taste those charts will reflect now. moms/dads at home with their kids? weird

So they are making Korea's shitty taste in music "official?" Because lbr during those hours, some of the songs are just.. well.. You do you, Korea. I understand the fairness point but they should have chosen a bigger time frame.

I'm not worried anymore since korea has finally started listening to the holy gospel known BTS! But rip to all the bg.

This is certainly gonna stop nugu groups from getting irrelevant and extremely short lived #1s. I guess this rule is gonna have up- and downsides, but I mostly agree that Korea stop stop these daily charts and focus on weekly/monthly charts. Gives a much better picture of what is and isn't popular.

Good. The way fans line up bg's songs during the night and then they drop dramatically during the day has always been funny to me.

I don't mind this either way, but I also don't think the 3am digital no.1 thing is any less embarrassing than bulk buying physical copies to boost sales. I can't anything but snort at all the 'when will your faves' when it comes to sales, it's capitalism man and very little to do with anyone's faves. At least digital fandom behavior is more environmentally friendly. /old person grumpy rant over.

well, rip to my nugu 2017 to do list then.

but the time span really bother me. it's too short.
if it's 9am until 9pm it's more make sense you know? because i'm rarely streaming song while i'm working at 12pm until 6pm.

Date: 2017-02-15 09:40 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] froggster.livejournal.com
Yeah i think the time frame is too short as well. I mostly listen to music while I'm drawing or gaming, which is usually after 6pm. Plus commuting in the morning. How weird to exclude those times

I've seen the charts here in Omona (I think) but that's all.
TBH, I don't even know how do you stream (?) a song...

Date: 2017-02-15 11:07 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mc1a.livejournal.com
To stream a song you basically have to listen to it in 'real time' on a music portal/service, not as a downloaded file on your device.
